4.0 out of 5 stars Fun game if you are a fan of Tron.., 18 Mar 2013
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Tron: Evolution (PS3) (Video Game)
Being a big fan of the Tron universe, I believe this game is worth a try, if for no better reason, at least because you get a chance to drive both light tank and light cycle, which are good fun. Besides from that, the game does not offer much more than jump/run/walk-on-walls/fight and, as other reviewers already pointed out, you'll find yourself doing these very same things from the beginning til the final chapter. The visuals from the Tron world are simply beautiful (you get to see three cities, a vast amount of outlands and the inside of an interceptor) but unfortunately you have no freedom of wandering around, not even a bit. The story too is quite dull, but being a movie tie-in, I wasn't expecting much.
From the mere technical point of view, commands are easy, reasonably responsive; one very annoying thing is the camera, which more than often seems to have a (wrong) mind of its own which leads your poor character to undeserved death.
My overall opinion of this game is "it's ok"; don't bother trying it if you are not a fan of the franchise however, you would probably get bored by it in an hour or two. I would not have completed it myself if it were not set in the Tron universe, but I loved the visuals and driving the light tank and this was enough to win four stars from me!

4.0 out of 5 stars At last, RIM, you did it right!, 24 Oct 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I used to have sort of a complicated relationship with BBs. I previously owned a Bold 9780 that I found highly disappointing considering its high price tag. When I finally got rid of it I thought I'd never ever get back. I was so wrong!
After 6 months of struggling against Android bugs on a QWERTY Samsung Galaxy I finally had to reconsider the BB as a viable option. I needed a phone for texts, chats, mails and all sorts off communications and I hate doing those things on a touchscreen. These are the kind of stuff where the BB OS still has no rivals. Despite all sorts of other flaws, namely the embarassing web browser and the number of useful apps that is close to zero, it is still the best communication OS out there.

So this time I decided to go for the cheapest model, and guess what? It rocks!
Build quality seems good, the device looks solid and the soft texture of the plastic makes it pleasant to be held in your hand. Moreover, I really like the simple, neat design of it. Despite being the entry level model, it does not look so cheap as previous Curves like i.e. the 8520.
The screen is ok, I was aware that the 240x320 resolution would not make it very sharp, the 640x480 display of my previous Bold was gorgeous in comparison to this, but at least on this device the screen is well protected by a robust plastic coating (i.e. you don't see the liquid crystal halo on the screen if you accidentally press it).
The keyboard is a pleasure to use. I largely prefer the Curve keyboard, with separated keys, over the Bold one, where the keys are softer and attached.
The Camera is ok, it is a 3.2 mpxl with LED flash, but I think it has fixed focus. To be used only if you don't have anything better at hand.
Convenience Keys on the side are handy and not too easy to press accidentally. Battery life is ok, the phone makes it to the end of a busy day. Let us say that you can expect to charge it every other day, which is much better than most nowadays phones.
The bundle that came with the phone is the standard Curve one: EU and UK USB chargers, USB cable, stereo headset, cd and a couple of leaflets.

From the software point of view, OS 7 (this phone comes with 7.1) is virtually identical to OS 6, but it has a few improvements that I appreciate, one above all the Wi-Fi hotspot feature, that I really missed on my previous BB (which had OS 6). It also comes with a DLNA server, for streaming your multimedia stuff over a local network (a feature I am not sure I will ever use, but thanks RIM for the effort). I also noticed some slight improvement in the web browser. It is still pretty clumsy, but I'd say it seems better.
Instant messaging apps are as usual very good: I mostly use Gtalk and must say that the BB client is ages better than the original Android one!
One thing I hate about this OS is the overwhelming presence of Bing web search. If you want Google, you have to add it manually, to both the web browser and the Universal Search.
The phone comes with Office To Go preinstalled for viewing (and editing, I suppose) Office documents. Have not used it so far, but in case you need to open an urgent attachment, you will be able to do it.
Apart from these remarks, OS 7 is nothing more and nothing less than its predecessors, which means: an efficient and intuitive interface designed to be operated through the optical scroll device (no need for a touchscreen, really), excellent for communications (texts, emails, IM), ok as a media player, ok for Twitter, poor for Facebook, poor for web surfing.
The annoying things are still there too: you still have to pull out the battery to reboot the device, it still takes ages to reboot and you still have to reboot it after most app updates. Shame on you RIM, this feels like Windows 98!
By the way, once you install Google Maps, Opera Mini, Dropbox and Poynt you are probably ready to get the most from this device.

At this price point I believe this model is good value for money. In my opinion, more expensive models are not worth the premium price tag. I am really satisfied with the build quality of this phone and how it is designed to make you do (most) things quickly. Blackberries have their limits however, so make sure you know what you want from it before buying one.
If what you want is an excellent communication device, then go for this one, definitely!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect fit for 4S too, 21 Feb 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I got this cover at a bargain price of less than £4 for my iPhone 4s. I knew Griffin products for their good quality, so I decided to give this a try. I am not disappointed at all, the cover is made of hard rubber, is fully transparent and has Griffin Logo embossed on both sides. The sides are striped to offer a better grip on the iphone. The overall quality feels good and the look is very discreet, which is exactly what I was looking for..the iphone is a beauty and it is such a pity to cover its gorgeous look!
Delivery was quick, so I am fully satisfied with my purchase!

2.0 out of 5 stars What's the big hype all about?, 18 Mar 2011
I've been having this phone for a while now, and can't tell how unimpressed with it I am. During the last years I have been using smartphones from different vendors and with different OSs, so I am not new to this kind of devices. This time I chose a Blackberry because I was curious about trying RIM's platform, which I never used before.
I was unsure whether to choose this particular model or the Curve 3G because I couldn't really figure out the advantages of one device over the other except of course the obvious price difference due to a couple of features that are weakened in the Curve.
In the end I chose to go for the top device being sure that I would not regret the "full feature" model over the "stripped down" one.

After having used it for a while, if I had to define this phone in one word, I would say "average" and nothing more. This, if you consider the device behavior and functionality..If I had to consider the price factor as well, I would say "highly overpriced"...for sure it is not worth its cost, considering the following issues:

Build quality: the device does indeed appear solid and well built, however it is 100% plastic. At this price I'd expect a phone to have at least some metal bezel. This does not. Just pure glossy plastic that seems to call for scratches. This gives a very cheap look and feel.

Unprotected display: the phone has a very brilliant and good quality display which apparently in RIM's design was not worth an adequate protection. If you touch even with little pressure the plastic covering the LCD you'll notice a "water-like" effect, which you would obtain if you touched an exposed LCD, one with no protection on it at all. It means that if you accidentally hit the phone you are very likely to break the LCD. Nor even the cheapest Nokia has such a poor display protection!

Total dependency on the BIS service: while I believe it is great to have some centralized control over one company's phones through the BES service, I can't see in present days any real advantage of the BIS services for a private user. If you don't have BIS, you can do very little but call, send SMSs and use the browser. RIM's BIS service offers you the same functionalities that all other modern smartphones' OSs have already built-in (mail, instant messaging, contacts and calendar syncing etc) but you need the messy BIS configuration and contract to be set-up. This may have been innovative and unique some years ago, but nowadays every Android phone does this stuff just out-of-the-box! Moreover, I know that in the UK BIS contracts cost as much as "standard" mobile internet plans but beware that in most european countries it is not alike (BIS contracts are usually more expensive).

Audio quality: transmission quality is good but not exceptional. Again, many cheaper phones have better audio quality and much less "echo" effect than this phone, one thing that can be seriously annoying!

Audio volume: again, there is some room for improvement here too.

No backup battery: if you pull out this phone's battery, you will lost your time and date settings! That is terribly annoying: don't ever think to get this phone if you need to swap sim cards or stuff like that. Besides, you risk to mess with all your emails and messages because they are sorted by date and time. Make sure your network can provide you with correct time and date settings, otherwise you will have to adjust them manually every time you pull the battery off.

App World: shortly, it sucks, and this is a serious issue for a smartphone! Even less choice than Nokia's OVI Store, and the few apps that are present are poor quality and mostly highly expensive (avg price is around 4-5 euros, while on the Android Market avg price is 1-2 euros per app, but the free ones are really good). Please don't listen to RIM's market-man saying that their focus is on quality rather than on quantity yada yada yada business phones don't need that stuff yada yada yada. Reality is: poor choice and high price.

Useless bundle: this phone comes with a usb charger with world plugs, a usb cable, a pocket pouch, a stereo headset and a 2gb microSD card. When I tell you that the phone can be charged via usb, you will see how useless most of the bundle is. A usb cable with a detachable plug would have been far better than all of that useless recharging stuff. A bigger memory card would have been much more appreciated for such an expensive phone! But, of course, a lot of bundled accessories gives you a good point for an unjustified high price...

So far, these are the main lacks I found in this phone. Now the things that impressed me favorably:

Battery life: it is exceptionally long for a smartphone. I have an Android phone that needs a recharge per day. This Blackberry carries on two or three days of normal utilization with no problem.

Real QWERTY keyboard: it is really good quality and you will get to type very fast in a very short time. Perhaps the Curve's series keyboard is even better, because it has separate keys, while on the Bold series the keys are not separated. In any case, you are not going to regret any on-screen keyboard nor any alphanumeric one: if you type a lot on your cell phone, a full physical keyboard will suit you the best.

Optical trackpad: it is very very quick and handy to use. Much better than any clunky direction pad or wheel. When using it for scrolling, it won't make you regret a touchscreen interface.

Blackberry Os: though a bit old-style as a concept, it has clearly been designed to offer maximum functionality and immediateness, to "get things done as quickly as possible". That's a very different approach from the Android and iOS multimedia-and-web-centricity, reminds more the old symbian OS user experience, but not so out-dated.

Push email: it is not the only one to offer this service anymore, however it still feels like the more mature and reliable, and the one that still offers the best integration between email and messaging management and the OS.

Regarding the other aspects of the phone (web integration, web browsing, multimedia etc) I'd say they are just average: you can do all of that but not as well as you would on an iPhone or an Android phone. The messaging capabilities are he real strength of Blackberrys, for all the other stuff you'd really better look elsewhere.

Summarizing, I have been quite disappointed mostly for the poor build quality of this specific device, which by the way does not come at a very affordable price. Get the Curve 3G instead...the feature difference is not worth the price difference in my opinion!
Besides from that Blackberry platform feels a little outdated if compared with its opponents in the smartphone market. I can't honestly understand people saying Blackberrys are the best smartphones ever and so on...they are good for messaging if you can get through the BIS activation mess, but on all other aspects they are quite poor. You can't honestly say that Blackberry OS is better than the iphone's!!
They are stylish devices, no doubt on that...but is this really enough?
My advice is: buy it only if you are well aware of what you are buying, otherwise you might feel highly disappointed..

Edit: As another person made me notice, I haven't written a word about the camera. Although not being for sure one of the primary reasons for buying a Blackberry, this phone's camera isn't bad at all: has 5MP with flash led and autofocus, quality is good, pictures are sharp, colors and lightning are fine. Bad point goes to the autofocus: it works but it is very very slow.

4.0 out of 5 stars Most stylish camera bag ever!, 14 Feb 2011
Let's face it...most SRL camera bags look pretty ugly and masculine. That's a shame, because on the contrary there are plenties of girls who love photography; actually, I mean "real" photography, not just the Facebook-ish "point and shoot" stuff.. That's the kind of target this bag is directed to: gives good protection without lacking on style, and, quite important, comes at a very affordable price!
The bag is very well padded, easy to handle and has enough room for a DSLR with standard lens kit plus some accessories, like memory cards, battery charger, cables and so on. It might give you enough room even for a second lens kit, but that definitely depends on the size of the lens kit and the camera body. If you need to carry with you an entire DSRL kit, you'd better consider buying something bigger.
The one reason I am giving four stars instead of five is the lack of a shoulder strap..I think a thin white one could have been fine with the looks of the bag and could have made the bag itself more handy for situations in which you have both hands occupied and no place to lay the bag down (that is very common, for example, if you are traveling...)
Besides from that, I adore the looks of this bag and are very proud to carry such a stylish thing around!

Forza, Italia. Come ripartire dopo Berlusconi
Forza, Italia. Come ripartire dopo Berlusconi
by Bill Emmott
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £18.33

5.0 out of 5 stars An outsider's refreshing point of view, 14 Feb 2011
I have been surprised at first knowing that Bill Emmott was about to publish a book about Italy. Just like most of the Italians he quotes in the first chapter of his book I was sure that there was nothing to write about, and that, even if there were, that nobody would be interested. The fact that last years' berlusconism has put Italy into a state of lethargic regression, in both economical and, shamefully, social field is unfortunately no news to anyone. But what is discussed throughout this book is the Good that still holds on. Mr Emmott has travelled across Italy looking for examples of virtuous success, and has found them in many different fields: from manufacturing to financial, from the small family run business to the big (now) international corporations. Although not being many, we thus realize that such realities indeed exist, and in a superior number that we commonly expect, despite of the fortunes and misfortunes of national politics and economics. One important thing I realized while reading this book is that perhaps most of us Italians have many more stereotypes about ourselves than we expect. This was a funny thought to discover!
The book explores a difficult subject such as the "ambition" of Italian entrepreneurs, by exploring the possible reasons for a peculiar characteristic common to most of them much more than their foreign equivalents: the will to "keep their business small", the lack of ambition to expand to other markets and become world leader in their respective sectors. I particularly liked that chapter because it explores something I have always noticed and could quite never explain to myself.
I particularly enjoyed the chapter titled "innovation" that, although beginning with some not so encouraging statistics and international rankings that are eloquent by themselves, takes then a different direction by talking about young Italians and their desire to change and innovate. Again, Emmott takes this chance to tell some significative examples.
The important fact about this book, in my opinion, is that it is written from an "outsider's" point of view. This does not mean it is objective, on the contrary, Mr Emmott does not regret letting his reader understand his personal opinion, but it is indeed an international point of view, about a country that is currently experiencing a closure towards globalization and internationality. Bill Emmott lets us understand what a shame this is by describing some successful realities that have built their own fortunes on worldwide spreading of their brands and products.
This book gives a refreshing view of what Italy has become, not by being pleasant or adulatory of the current state of things (we are already being fed too much of that by national TV news), but by telling the mere reality looking for the potential that, despite all, is still there. This is very encouraging towards the future, in my opinion. This is definitely a book every Italian should read!

4.0 out of 5 stars A good Android phone at an affordable price, 18 Jan 2011
I chose this phone because I wanted an Android device but didn't want to spend a lot of money on it, since I usually change phone every 2 years or less. I believe that at this price range this device is the best value for money you can get. I am not a big fan of LG consumer products, but after having tried it at a local shop I was positively surprised with this device. I briefly compared it with a Samsung Galaxy Mini (similar for price & features) and definitely preferred the LG, since it didn't feel as bulky and as cheap in materials as the Samsung. So, after 10 days usage, here is my brief impression of this phone:
Pros:
It has the latest version of Android available on phones at the moment (2.2 Froyo)
- LG customizations on the user interface are actually real improvements, mostly useful and not very invasive (you get: icons for quick turning on/off of wifi, bluetooth, gps, cell phone antennas and audio; quick launch icons for browser, phone, address book, messages, the LG app advisor app, which is very useful if you are an Android newbie and don't know very well how to choose your apps in the Android Market, which is immense)
- Audio quality is really good (beware of the fact that there is only one loudspeaker on the unit)
- Photo quality is really good too (although being a 3mpx "only" camera, which in my opinion is more than enough for a cell phone and although lacking of led flash, which, btw, I never used on my previous phone, it has instead a macro & autofocus system that works really well)
- It does charge via usb (ok, that's common to all Android phones, but maybe not everybody knows it!)
- It drains battery power, but less than other phones (it has a 1500 mah batery pack)
- it has 512 mb of ram memory (double as compared to most similar priced phones)
- it supports pinch to zoom in browser and in applications
-email push works pretty well (I have tried Gmail and Yahoo Mail, not yet Exchange mail)
- it has a 2 gb microSD card included, while most phones have a 1 gb one (if you don't mean to use your phone as your primary video/mp3 player you won't probably need a bigger one)
- it has a stereo headset included in the package...that's not bad!

Cons:
- touchscreen resolution & luminosity are good, but I believe sensitivity could have been better (my dad has a Huawei Ideos, which is a cheaper Android phone, and its touchscreen is more responsive in my opinion)
- It has a 600mhz cpu, which means it cannot support full Flash content but only Flash Lite, which btw is not pre-installed on the device. Anyway...do you really need Flash? You have the Youtube app already installed, which means that probably 90% of the Flash content you need is still available to you.
- it has no front camera (but..do you really need it? Android doesn't natively support videocalls at the moment as far as I know)
- Stereo audio only through headphones, as said before, the loudspeaker is mono (again, does it make a real difference to you?)
- surprisingly, the stock web browser is very basic and at times quite slow (that's an Android flaw, luckily there are very good alternatives on the Android Market, and most are free)
- LG preconfigures the home screens with tons of widgets and icons, this in my opinion slows down the phone a little too much
- LG preinstalled applications cannot be freely removed (again, this is a software issue, but better make it clear), but can be updated
- LG custom interface divides the preinstalled apps from the ones you have downloaded by putting a separator named "Downloads" at the bottom of the menu and all your installed apps there. I find this quite annoying
-battery life is really too short, with normal usage I charge the phone every night (again, this is an issue with most new phones, not peculiar of this one)

The above lists do not mean to be exhaustive, but only to summarize my first impressions. I am personally very satisfied with this phone because it is well tailored around my needs and the things it lacks are things that I mostly don't need or don't use.

I feel to recommend this phone if:
-you have a data plan (you have to renounce to some of the best Android features without it)
-you don't want to spend much money but you want a smartphone with some advanced features
-you are willingly to take your time to learn how to use it (Android is not as immediate and intuitive as iOS in my opinion)
-your smartphone activity can well be summarized in "google, emails, social networks, youtube, chatting" (yes, once you get used to the keyboard, you can type very quickly!) rather than classical "cell phone activities" (calling, texting etc)
-you don't have enormous hands and a >3 inches display phone is difficult for you to handle with only one hand, or if you don't want an enormous device to take all room in your bag/pocket
-you are an email addict but don't want to spend a lot of money on a blackberry!

I feel not to recommend this phone if:
- you want a flawless speed at doing everything, want to be able to install as many apps and widgets as you wish, do not want to be bothered with performance issues and phone eventual slow-downs, and are willing to pay for that (which means, a >1ghz phone, at a price at least double than this LG)
- you are very much into multimedia stuff (audio & video etc). This phone has good qualities for multimedia but it is not aimed to that. There are cheaper Nokia phones that have much better audio quality.
-you want to use your phone as a digital camera replacement (no phone has a quality even comparable to the cheapest real digital camera, in my opinion, but, again, mine is just an opinion)
- you send plenties of sms. Android is fine for that but is an Os more oriented to the web and web activities rather than classical phone activities. Again, if your primary use of the cell phone is making calls & texting I think Nokia is still ahead in that. I don't mean that it does such things better, but that it is more immediate at doing them (ie. less buttons to push!)
- you have very large fingers: in that case a phone with a bigger screen & resolution might be better for you. Do not think to buy it and eventually use a stylus...in my experience using a stylus on a capacitive touchscreen can be a really frustrating experience!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good quality at a very low price, 18 Jan 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I did not expect such a good product for such a low price. The case looks really good and fits the phone perfectly. I think this cover adds a little personality to an otherwise quite anonymous-looking phone. I just hope that with time the circles on the back won't fade away or worse, stick on the back cover of the phone!
Moreover you get a pack of 6 (yes...six!) screen protectors already shaped after this phone's display, which are also quite expensive, if bought elsewhere. I have to say I still have to try the quality of these screen protectors, I hope they are just fine.
In my opinion, this bundle is really good value and quality for a very low price. I am really satisfied with my purchase!

3.0 out of 5 stars Product is fine and is good value for the price, but..., 18 Jan 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Let's say that I am not unsatisfied with this product in particular, but now that I have tried it I am not sure I am going to use it. I bought this pack of styluses for my LG P500, my first capacitive touchscreen device. I used to have a Nokia 5800, which has resistive touchscreen and came with its own stylus, which I found pretty handy at times. That's why I decided to buy a stylus for my new phone as well. I imagined the user experience would have been pretty much the same. That is definitely not so.
Capacitive styluses' tips have to be pretty large (because the touchscreen has to recognize it as a fingertip), this one in particular has not even a spherical tip, it is some kind of foam shaped as a flat disc. This makes usage much clunkier and slower than a sharp tip on a resistive touchscreen. Moreover you have to push quite hard the tip on the touchscreen for it to be "felt" by the device, and I am not sure this is good for the touchscreen on the long time. At this point I believe this kind of devices aren't supposed to be used with styluses at all, indeed, using your fingers is much easier!
Regarding this specific product, it is just as the description & photos show, no more, no less. It is excellent value for the money in my opinion, because you get a pack of two styluses for less than the price that you would pay for just one elsewhere. As I have said before, a spherical tip would probably have felt better at using, furthermore in my opinion a couple of centimeters shorter would have made it easier to carry in the phone pouch.
Overall a good product but beware that on capacitive screens these styluses won't probably improve your user experience at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value for the money!, 18 Jan 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
At this price I didn't expect to get such a good product. I bought it for my LG P500 since it should be approx. the same size as the wildfire (and because it was the only leather pouch for which I would get no additional charge for shipping since it is "fulfilled by amazon", I live in Italy) and I am pretty satisfied with it. It fits pretty well the phone, the magnetic clip makes it pretty elegant and secure and the pull-up stripe works well.
I have to say that this pouch felt a little too tight for my phone at the beginning: that was because it was pretty rigid; I had to fold it by hand for a couple of minutes in order to soften it a bit, and then pull the phone in and out from it for some times. It fits perfectly now.
There's not much else to add, besides from the fact that that purple color is simply gorgeous!!
