1.0 out of 5 stars Unhappy with this product, 28 Sept. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I decided to pay the extra for this CD player based on Pioneer's reputation. Bad decision. It stopped working after a few weeks and Amazon quickly replaced it. Then that one stopped working two months later and I had to go to a repair centre who said it was a known fault with the fuses inside the unit. They could not get the parts and a month later Pioneer replaced it. Guess what? After another two months the replacement one stopped working and it too went back to the repair shop.
I won't buy a Pioneer product again.
Annoyingly, when it works its a good unit.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good collection but needs updating, 5 April 2014
In its day (1996) a good compilation though even then it was missing "This Time We'll Get it Right". It also has the non hit and non Spurs version of "Nice One Cyril which seems weird. You might argue that "World Cup Willie" should have been included also.

There is no definitive CD as of yet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love this album but its a disappointing mono version, 3 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: My Generation (Audio CD)
I am a fan of the early Who and have various CD and vinyl versions of this classic album.

To my ears this is a poor mono transfer as it sounds tinny and muffled. There is no detail on the CD and I don't think Shel Talmy has gone back to the masters for a proper mono mix. Even my 1980 Virgin vinyl reissue sounds better.

I know the 2002 Deluxe CD has a few overdubs missing but the sound on it is so clear and powerful. Shel did a great job there and the mono versions he used are unbeatable.

I am fan of mono and would like to see a proper mono transfer of this classic album. Been done for the Beatles so why not The Who?

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable but where's Pete?, 6 Dec. 2013
An enjoyable second edition of BBC recordings. Just a shame we don't have the rare tracks with Pete Best e.g Picture of You and Dream Baby

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent psychedelic pop, 24 Mar. 2011

This review is from: Tangerine Dream (Audio CD)
This is a very groovy sixties album which deserves a bigger audience.

If you like thoughtful psychedelic pop with a twist, then this is for you. Its easily the equal of Odessey and Oracle, Sgt Pepper, Evolution etc. Its full of offbeat yet catchy tunes both uplifting and dark. Very English and very 1967 in its style and content. Great production. Its amazing they never achieved mainstream success with this effort.

Bonus tracks are good too including the ultra poppy 'Jenny Artichoke" single.

4.0 out of 5 stars BRILLIANT INSIGHT INTO ITALIA 1990 FROM AN ENGLAND PERSPECTIVE, 8 May 2010
A gripping book which is more than a match by match recap of England's progress in the 1990 world cup finals.
Journalist/ fan Pete Davies had access to the England manager and team players so we gain an insight into their personalities and behaviour as the tournament unfolds. There are revealing passages about the experience of English fans whilst in Italy, the difficulties of organising such a big tournament and opinions about the FA hierarchy. Bear in mind that this is a straight reprint of the 1990 original with no added content e.g. the end looks forward to USA 94. I would have liked a postscript, new intro or some comments with the benefit of hindsight but its still excellent.Davies faithfully captures the agony and ecstasy of this event that really did grip the nation.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read for Walkerpeople, 26 Sept. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Enjoyable book on the Walker Brothers which is facinating to read before or after John and Gary's own account, which is excellent.
I rate it as four stars because there are quite a few annoying typos and errors - the author gets Bobby Graham and Bobby Elliott mixed up for example - but overall its a good effort.
I particularly enjoyed the focus on Gary and John's subsequent recordings and career as this been overlooked due to the understandable focus on Scott.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable and Informative, 26 Sept. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
At last a book about the Walker Brothers from people who were actually there - Gary and John themselves.
This is a warm hearted and fascinating account about their early years and how three young Americans (not actual brothers) came to the UK and nearly toppled the Beatles from their position as crown princes of 60's pop.
The guys set out to give us the facts and dispel the myths and they have.
I read it in one sitting and only wished it were longer. May the sun shine forever on Gary, John and Scott.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing and annoying, 7 April 2008
Despite its great length this is nowhere near a definitive biography. Incoherent, pretentious and ultimately exhausting it leaves so much unanswered.
