If you do not expect a picture book and if you love to read stories about art and artists and are interested in background information, then this might be your choice. I loved Gombrich, I love this book, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful, 8 Jun 2013

This book is a wonderful item for a teacher who is always confronted by those assertions of his pubertal students "WHy is this art? I could have done this easily by myself"...
A handy book, practical in use and concise.

This review is from: Contemporary Art Book (Hardcover)
This book provides a good overview of quite a lot of contemporary artists. Each artist is represented by an informational text (about 200 words) and by one or more pictorial examples. At the end of a text you mostly find cross reference to other pages.

This review is from: Great Paintings (Hardcover)
This book gives a nice overview of quite a range of paintings from Giotto to Anselm Kiefer, including some Asian artists. Nice pictures with key details and explanations of composition and/or techniques make it a pleasant journey through art history for an average "art customer".

5.0 out of 5 stars amusing, interesting and funny..., 5 Jan 2013

though I had already seen this dvd (a friend of mine showed me), I wanted to own it myself. I just love the way Ben Lewis approaches contemporary art - there is always a humorous and ironic side in his films which I consider quite necessary. It is a way to give my 18 years' old visual arts students some insight...
