5.0 out of 5 stars A journey into Rural French Culture beside the vines., 16 April 2010
If you wish to be transported in words into the heart of a wine producing French village; into the lives and homes of those who live there; into the very history of the terroir of the land; into a living past that is still the present, than this is compelling and satisfying reading. A deep love and appreciation of rural France will help you on your journey. A glass, bottle and corkscrew to hand is essential !

5.0 out of 5 stars The French Dream, 10 Feb. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The fact that this voyage through the canals of central France is hosted by Rick Stein is bound to have an emphasis on food and associated culinary subjects is no surprise. This is not a cookery programme but a wonderful travelogue which gives a gastronomic flavour of the regions. The characters with whom Rick engages and learns from are the very essence of France and enable the viewer to be transported to that wonderful country which is still far from the 21st century in it's rural areas. The scenery is magnificient, the food mouthwatering and so simple, the markets are full of the the freshest and best produce of the country, the wine . . . well the wine! As you watch it is impossible not to be transported and saviour the whole culture of that wonderful country. A superb antidote to an English winter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real New Zealand Home Accomodation, 10 Jan. 2010
This is a colourful easy to use B & B reference book with the areas easily defined and located. The descriptions of the properties alone is a great read and imparts the flavour of the country and its regions. It really makes you want to visit the country and it now forms part of my planning for a visit in 2010. In truth, I feel as if my visit has already started thanks to this informative guide with its superb colour photography. Great value.
