Your Business Foundation: Build The Foundation That ALL Successful Businesses Are Built On
Your Business Foundation: Build The Foundation That ALL Successful Businesses Are Built On
Price: £8.10

4.0 out of 5 stars Identifies the difference between owning a business and running a business., 4 Jun. 2014
The UK offers almost anyone the freedom to start and run a business. There are practically no pre-requisites, either financial or commercial, that entrepreneurs need to demonstrate to anyone - either before launching or while trading.
This can be a double-edged sword, because if there were it might reduce the number of business that fail every year.
This book becomes that ‘little voice of reason’ sitting on your shoulder, forcing you to really examine what it is you’re doing and where you’re going. For an SME, encouraging your ‘commercial conscience’ to influence your actions could be the difference between simply owning a business and really running one.
The teachings, techniques and tools in this book provide the SME Owner a mirror; forcing them to take a good, long and objective look at their business, to identify problems and formulate solutions.
Punctuated with real examples, it does require the reader to commit to making the time to run their business, rather than letting it drift on under its own momentum. That, in itself, can be just as scary as starting a business (if it ain’t broke, don’t try to fix it!), but ultimately if you’re running an SME you need to take action and this book will equip you with the will and the ways to do it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive, 13 Nov. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this dongle as a bit of an experiment; having tried a similar product for a laptop in the past and not being that happy with it, I didn't expect too much. However, this little dongle really performs well.
I'm guessing that since the digital switch-over happened in the UK the digital signal strength has improved considerably, allowing this dongle to pick up a good signal. The picture quality on the iPhone is excellent and I'm expecting the same level of quality on the iPad.
It takes a couple of hours to charge up but the in-built battery should last for 9hours, according to the packaging - which also maximises the iPxxx charge and therefore viewing time.
The first product was delivered quickly, but was the wrong product - an Android dongle for a Samsung Galaxy tablet. A quick email to the vendor sorted out the problem and an iOS version was dispatched the same day and arrived the next. The original device is being returned via FedEx free-of-charge.
All in all I would recommend this dongle for anyone who wants to watch digital TV (or listen to digital radio) on an iOS device while on the move, without the need for a internet connection.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good near-future story, 12 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I mostly read sci-fi but have recently been searching out good near-future fiction with a sci-fi twist, which this is. The author has drawn on his own professional experiences, judging by the book's theme and his author profile, which certainly helps make the technology believable.
The style is also really fresh and works perfectly with the content - using several different viewpoints over the same time period to tell the story from various aspects. It manages to do this without losing the first-person's perspective of what matters to them as everything else is happening. In addition to that, he also manages to avoid repetition, which could happen far too easily when re-telling the same sequence of events several times.
I think the style, coupled with the original concept, make this an excellent read and a brilliant first novel. I've also read CyberStorm and am looking forward to the third novel, which I believe picks up where Atopia leaves off.

3.0 out of 5 stars Quite simply a step-by-step guide, 25 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I'm guessing the idea of a 'showme guide' is to do just that; show you step-by-step what you need to do to set VirtueMart up. Unfortunately, these kind of guides don't tell you why, they only show you how. This means that if you choose not to follow the steps you'll only find out what happens when you try it out, and it's left to you to work out why something's happened because the book doesn't go in to that level of detail. I found this to be a problem when first using Joomla and I had to search around for a good book that explains Joomla well, rather than a 'type yes here' or 'click no there' approach that this book takes.
The limitations of this mean you're less likely to fully understand the software, although you will be able to implement it - as long as you're happy with the 'default' settings, or are willing to experiment.
This means that a bright person who is already familiar with Joomla could probably get away without this guide, but it does provide a level of confidence for the beginner.
The major shortcoming, however, is in the actual e-commerce part. My main reason for buying this book was to get to grips with the online payment side of running an online store, but the section in the book is, like the rest, just a walk-through of how to set it up with the settings from a transaction provider - it's left to the reader/user to research these providers and work out which is best etc..
In short, this guide is good for Joomla newbies but if you're confident with configuring Joomla then you could probably do without it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great addition to the bike, 25 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I ordered two of these, one for me and one for my wife. After an initial delivery problem (they were returned to Tooltime, who re-sent then and they arrived the next day, excellent service) I have had a quick look and they seem to be ideal for the job.
The material is a light-weight man-made fabric, much like cheaper holdalls are made from, but I don't see that being a major problem and it keeps the weight down. The top has an expanding seam which allows for more stuff to be carried, while the expanding side panniers look like they'll take quite a lot of stuff too - I think you could easily fit enough for an overnight stay or even short break in them. They should also take quite a bit of grocery shopping - probably a small plastic bag's worth of goods on each side, although their shape means you'll probably need to repack.
In general I think they're good value, the integral rain cover should also come in handy.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too slow, 22 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I enjoy vampire tales and could even sit through the Vampire Diaries, but this story - while well written - is just a bit too slow to appeal to me, with echoes of the over-dependence on an unrequited love affair that is present in the Twilight Saga. I managed to get half way through before giving up.

3.0 out of 5 stars A great little bag for your iPhone + small items, 22 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This bag is great if you want to have your Smart/iPhone at hand while cycling, and somewhere to store a few smaller items. The only criticism is that design doesn't allow it to fit snugly on all crossbars; it really needs the front velcro loop to be modified to allow for angled crossbars.
Apart from that it's well worth the price.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good story, well told, 22 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Gated (Kindle Edition)
I enjoy reading thrillers and mysteries with a touch of horror (Stephen King) and after reading the free abstract I felt this had the potential to deliver just that. The price is obviously a factor, so for less than £1 I thought it would be a good buy.
The author's comments forewarned me of some grammatical errors, so I managed to overlook them for the most part, although they can cause your mental narrator to trip up (especially if you're a pedant, like me!)
Mostly I think the author has invested a little too much of himself in to the main character and I felt that a little more detachment would help. The style reminds me of someone who has spent time in the USA telling British friends who haven't just what it's like, while at the same time levering references to British culture in to the mix for the benefit of US readers (I'm guessing). As a result it can read a bit like a guidebook in places.
The plot (no spoilers) is a little hackneyed and the frequent references to Stepford don't really help mitigate that, but it still manages to be relatively fresh. It could probably benefit from a faster pace in places, with perhaps a little more intrigue, too, but on the whole it was a good read and I've already started a free sample of one of the author's earlier book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great romp through history, from an historic perspective, 4 Dec. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book was written around 1896 and so its perspective is, itself, historically relevant. But the real purpose of the book is to give the reader an overview of the history of Spain and it achieves this well.
It's written well and the pace is excellent. I read the book while on holiday in Asturia, one of the regions that was responsible for keeping the Moors out of the rest of Northern Spain, which made it come to life for me despite being over a century old!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for the price, but only OK when you add P&P, 4 Dec. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
There's not much to say about this; a piece of leather with metal fastening. The clasp is described as 'lobster claw' (I think?) and because the receiving end is simply formed by one of the loops being bent outwards, it can make it a little difficult to fasten/unfasten.
It was necessary for me to remove one end in order to get my pendent on to the strap, as the hole wasn't big enough to go over the receiving end, but that was pretty easy using a small pair of pliers.
All in all, a good product at the price but a shame that the P&P almost doubles the sale price.
