5.0 out of 5 stars great American story, 29 Jun 2011
I have just finished reading this boo and cant recommend it highly enough. It is a story of Woody's upbringing in a family with his mother suffering from mental illness and the social injustice of 1920's and 30's America. The book also gives a great insight into the problems facing families and individuals in their tough search for work, where families have lost everything and have to travel in the hope of finding a job. It also shows the coming of the oil industry to rural America, where short term booms were replaced by squalid housing and the struggle to gain a secure job and virtually no generation in wealth from the local oil fields. The book also tackles racism, prejudice and gives a colourful view of the thousands of people that travelled in the same way as Woody in their search for a better life. Enjoy the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great return of the Coral, 28 Dec 2010
This review is from: Butterfly House (Audio CD)
I was given this CD as a gift at Christmas and I absolutly love it. I think it is a great follow up to Roots and Echoes. The album is clearly a 60s influenced album, with the singles Two Faces and 1000 years being inspired by the Byrds. The album in my eyes has no weak songs and a great journey into Americana by the Coral.

My Father And Other Working Class Football Heroes
My Father And Other Working Class Football Heroes
by Gary Imlach
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars My father and other working class football heroes, 28 Oct 2010
This is a must read for any football fan who is tired of the Wayne Rooney age of football and the personal greed that goes with it. This book shows a more honest age of football, where they had more in common with the supporters who went to watch them. In this age of greed, it is nice to read a refreshing story of the football of old. Enjoy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Trotsky; A Biography, 20 Nov 2009
This review is from: Trotsky: A Biography (Hardcover)
I have a keen interest in the Russian revolution and have read numerous books on this subject, including many articles about Trotsky. I was therfore very interested in reading this latest book. However I found this book disapointing, with a number of inaccuracies regarding the life of Trotsky. I also feel the author is not objective enough in this biography with an obvious political slant on the biography of this historical figure.
