4.0 out of 5 stars Brings ordinary sport games to life!, 26 May 2009
This is a great little book that has many ideas to help spice up ordinary sports games (e.g. basketball, football, baseball, etc). Kids will really enjoy the different alternatives as opposed to just another boring game of rounders. Great for teachers or activity leaders. Only down-side is the rather expensive price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Jam-packed full of ideas, 26 May 2009
This book is well-written (albeit in American English) and is literally full of ideas...all clearly laid out in different catergories. The only downside is that some of the activites are very obvious (e.g. tag, hide and seek, etc) which are so well-known that they didn't even deserve a mention. Still for someone who has kids or is leading a youth group this is the perfect companion!

4.0 out of 5 stars Does the trick!, 26 May 2009
= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
Fine...does the trick for one-night only. But difficult to re-use again. Will most likely end up in the bin later.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best ELT handbook out there!, 26 May 2009
This book is superb! Well-written and everso easy to read. It is jam-packed full of ELT information...including some relatively new techniques (such as Dogme, interactive whiteboards, etc). The DVD featuring real-life lessons followed by a Harmer-led Q&A session with the teachers is a welcome addition. This was defintely at the top of my reading list when I did the DELTA but its also recommended for those taking CELTA.

Highly-recommended. Together with Thornbury...Harmer is most-definetly the King of ELT!

My Word is My Bond: The Autobiography
My Word is My Bond: The Autobiography
by Roger Moore
Edition: Hardcover

4.0 out of 5 stars A very interesting and entertaining book...but not without its typing errors!, 24 May 2009
As a life-long 007 fan who was brought up in the Roger Moore era...I was thoroughly looking forward to reading this auto-biography. And it didn't disappoint! Packed full of fascinating anecdotes from his early childhood right through to his recent UNICEF charity work this has everything for the avid Moore fan. However, despites its Bondian title it doesn't really offer that much more for the avid James Bond fan. The focus on his 12 years as 007 are condensed to just four chapters (out of 14). Moore skims each film in a few pages...but still manages to reveal a few interesting elements (such as being forced to miss his Concorde flight for 'Moonraker' or the many drunken escapades of his co-star Bernard Lee who played 'M').

The only other real downside is the numerous typing errors that are dotted throughout the book. Now maybe it's the English language teacher in me and of course nobody is perfect...once or twice is no problem...but here there are at least half a dozen typing errors dotted throughout the book. You would think that Moore's publishers/editors would have spotted these!

Otherwise, a still worthwhile addition to your coffee table!

4.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for any new ELT teacher or CELTA recruit, 24 May 2009
Before tackling the CELTA course, it is worthwhile to reading this as it really helps to introduce the world of ELT teaching to the complete novice. However, those wanting to take the DELTA may prefer more detailed books such as those by Penny Ur and Jeremy Harmer.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for any Chopin fan!, 24 May 2009
Bought this book as a birthday present for a Chopin lover. Naturally, she absolutely loved it, learning a lot more about the classic composer. This is well-written and highly-informative.

4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting adaptation, 24 May 2009
Rohinton Mistry is a master at contemporary literature focusing on Post-colonial India. This small low-key film is a worthy adaptation of his novel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful book, 24 May 2009
Penny Ur is a legend in the ELT industry and this book is packed with useful activities to help bring grammar alive. Yes it is a little outdated now (the black & white photos are circa.1988) but it is still a very useful tool for the English language classroom.

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring book of a boring series, 24 May 2009
The only good thing about this book is the addition of the very first LOST episode on DVD. The episode which really blew our minds apart and got us excited for what turned out to be an overlong, dull and simply ludicrous TV series.
