The Long Earth: (Long Earth 1)
The Long Earth: (Long Earth 1)
by Terry Pratchett
Edition: Paperback
Price: £5.19

5.0 out of 5 stars A great start to what looks like being a great series, 29 April 2016
I have no idea how on earth you write a book like this in collaboration especially one that is the first in a series, but they have done a cracking job.

It is not a fast paced book, it is a scene setter, don't read it if you are not wanting to start a series, but if you are then this starting point holds out a lot of hope for a great collection

Not in God's Name: Confronting Religious Violence
Not in God's Name: Confronting Religious Violence
by Jonathan Sacks
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £16.59

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, buy this book now, 29 April 2016

Brilliant, simply brilliant.

As well as the core arguments of this book, it was fascinating to read a Jewish interpretation of some Old Testament passages that Christians normally interpret somewhat differently.

Best Quote.

5.0 out of 5 stars Took almost an "infinite" time to read...but well worth it, 29 April 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Probably the most complex book i have read in a long time.

It assumed a fair level of initial knowledge in both Physics and Philosophy but if you can do the work then the ideas that are discussed within this text are well worth it

In particular is the treatment of Mathematics and the discussion about it not being the fundamental science and his treatment of the infinite as being purely a mathematical work around that we should always keep in mind does not reflect anything real in the universe

It took me a long long time to get through this text, but highly worth the effort

5.0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable, but control your wallet, 29 April 2016
A good brief summary of the issues around the apologetic between Science and Faith.

There is plenty within this book alone to keep you busy, but it is also magnificently well referenced and so gives you loads of guidance on where to read further in each particular area should you wish to.

My wallet has already taken a real beating in buying a number of the books recommended for further reading

The Holy Trinity: In Scripture, History, Theology, and Worship
The Holy Trinity: In Scripture, History, Theology, and Worship
Price: £7.03

5.0 out of 5 stars Great wide ranging and balanced summary of historical development and current thought, 25 April 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A fantastic book, vast in its scale and great in its balanced discussion of both the historical development of the doctrine and the more modern issues.

In particular i enjoyed the T.F Torrance parts and the appendix dealing directly with some of the criticism the author has personally received.

I believe that the issue of the Trinity is now beginning to rise again as a major topic not just in Theological circles but that it is beginning to rise again as a day to day topic, lets hope that discussion is as wide and balanced as this

This review is from: 101 Riddles (App)
This app is really good. The only reason I didn't give it 5 star is because some of the questions are just general knowledge. It is still good though!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best "Effing" Christian book in years, 9 Dec. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
hopefully this version on the title will get past the Amazon review filters......

Very occasionally a book comes along that makes your normal way of reading books pointless.

I mark and write in the margins of all the books i read, i helps me to absorb and read slower....this principal applied to this book has resulted in pen laden pages throughout, and it has become so highlighted that it really is pretty pointless, the whole book is one big highlight.

As you may have guessed from the title the language used is far from what you will find in your normal Christian book.

It would be a bit difficult for the authors central thesis of "HPtFtU" (Human Propensity to **** things up) to be rephrased very easily or effectively, so frankly just deal with it, it will be worth it.

I would normally give you a central quote or two to encourage you to read this book...this time i will just tell you not to engage in your own HPtFtU and just buy this book and read it, it will be worth it

A great read.

Full of great insight and history as well as the authors thoughts on the future and some interesting opinion from them as to how things should proceed.

Really enjoyed the section on negative income tax....sounds like a plan!
