5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Sound, 30 Jan 2013
This review is from: Candescent (MP3 Download)
Incredible sound quality from MP3 - would love to hear these songs in HD. Nice songs beautifully sung and played. How is this recording so good when the big names sound so flat.

3.0 out of 5 stars Irish records - care of the Latter Day Saints, 18 Jan 2012
Bought the platinum edition to get access to the Irish records on the Ancestry web site (you don't get this with the standard version) but these seem to only contain data that can be found (for free) from the Latter Day Saints (Mormons) web site. I was hoping to gain access to the Irish GRO Births, Deaths and Marriages records but this was not the case.

The software itself - seems more buggy than the 2011 version - looks like it was rushed to market without adequate testing. The first thing that happened when I installed was that it downloaded a fix to the software.

Ancestry do appear to be very mercenary (may be it's an American thing) - they try to squeeze the customer for access to records that are in many case free from else where e.g. US records.

Apart from that it is a decent piece of software - but I won't be upgrading come 2013.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful June Tabor, 15 Mar 2011
This review is from: Ashore (Audio CD)
Beautiful songs sung beautifully - and expertly recorded places her close enough to kiss.
No one evokes the English landscape or seascape like June Tabor

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Natural History Program I've Ever Seen, 12 Feb 2011
Human Planet sets a new standard for natural history film making in my opinion. The HD photography is breath taking with superb choreographing making it seem like you are actually there. Add to this the wonderful touching human stories and you have the making of a masterpiece. Well done BBC and those involved, you've raised the bar once again. Wish I could give it more than 5 stars

4.0 out of 5 stars Important historical document for students of cinema, 4 Dec 2010
Although it's not full of belly laughs there are some funny moments and you can see the influence Chaplin had on the 20th Century cinema and why this guy is so important. As an aside there is some fascinating insights into life in the early 1900's. Also there is some great early jazz playing in the background.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thinking outside the box - what box?, 10 Sep 2010
We have this book at work as part of our recommended training. I must say I really enjoyed the book and found it inspiring and motivational. The ideas were clearly presented and the use of humour was effective. If you want a concise guide to innovation with loads of examples and interesting quotes this is the book for you. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly funny, 7 July 2010
Bought this as soon as it came out since I'm running out of classic comedy to watch. The shows are surprisingly well written with good story lines and a lot of funny one liners. I think the plot works very well with a jewish and irish tailor and the mix of their cultural backgrounds. The acting is excellent especially John Bluthal (who is still living) who displays great pathos - some of the best I've seen - you won't see better "Jewish Humour" than this. You get a real feel of a seedy bespoke tailors in a London backstreet. (reminds me of Steptoe in this respect). Not just a comedy but a real warm human story. Highly recommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wildly inaccurate!!!, 5 Dec 2009
Highly Accurate? - is not how I would describe this device! - over a period of 5 minutes it measured my temperature at 39.4, 38.4, 39.5, 37.8, 39.3, 40.1!!! degrees. Either I'm very ill or this device is useless. By highly accurate they must mean plus or minus 3 degrees. Lession learnt - I'll be buying a branded thermometer in future. Amazon should really check out these before allowing their highly regarded website to used for selling junk.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent design - excellent quality, 22 Aug 2009
You certainly get what you pay for with this torch - the build quality is exemplary - a beautiful piece of quality engineering so rarely seen these days. It may be expensive but compared to your average torch this is in another league.
I needed a bright torch with a long battery life and this is perfect. One word of caution - I bought the bubble pack with the "test" facility that shines the light into a mirror and straight into your eyes - lets say the brightness came as quite a shock!
The pack I got had 2 sets of batteries and a case. If looked after this torch should last a long time i.e. gold plated contacts etc. - It'll be interesting to see how long the LED lasts - it's certainly the brightest LED I've ever seen - only 3W but appears to be brighter than your average million candle type torch - and the batteries last 30 times longer.
Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent designed phone - but expensive, 8 Aug 2009
There are very few phones out there designed for the elderly or handicapped but this is the best in my opinion. I bought this for my 77 year old mother since the phone she has is hopeless - small keys, small text etc.

Only gave it 4 stars because it's so expensive when phones with similar capabilities only cost a tenner. Saying that, this is an excellent phone - it's certainly the best designed, easiest to use phone I've ever used. I wouldn't mind keeping it myself! especially since I've seen no one else with one.

You can usually tell intuitive good design when you don't have to refer to the manual to find out how something works. Although it's made of plastic this feels like an high quality product with a velvet like touch. The keys are large, illuminated with large text, separated and have a positive action. The screen is bright and clear and the sound is loud. I let a child of 4 use this to see if they could master it and it only took them a few minutes. The menu is simplicity itself and the whole design reminds me of something the likes of Apple would produce. I would like to have seen the user's number appear on the intro screen but that is only a small criticism. Also I think they should have included the optional stand free since the price is so high. There is a special emergency button on the back that can be used to call/text a friend/relative.
Hopefully this will wake up the competition to produce similar phones - after all we are an aging population and not all 8 year olds!

If you can afford it or afford to buy it for an elderly relative you won't buy better.
