Faith's Checkbook (One-Minute Devotions)
Faith's Checkbook (One-Minute Devotions)
by Charles Haddon Spurgeon
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £6.72

4.0 out of 5 stars A lovely way to start or finish the day. ..., 6 Jan. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A lovely way to start or finish the day. Although I feel that there is a danger with devotionals, that scriptures can sometimes be wrested out of context and bite sized readings may detract from the discipline of studying the Bible itself, overall these thought provoking devotions provide a wealth of encouraging Biblical insights for meditation. Spurgeon is always a pleasure to read and his Biblical wisdom is timeless.

This review is from: Pathway Through Grief (Paperback)
A difficult subject tackled with great sensitivity. Ten people share their stories of bereavement through different circumstances. Having suffered a recent bereavement, I found this book very moving, tackling as it does the conflicting emotions experienced by those who have lost a loved one, their reactions to the well intentioned but not always helpful responses of others and in some cases, the crises of faith they experienced. 'Pathway through Grief' offers insights and comfort and is well worth reading.

A lovely day by day journey through the whole of John's Gospel. Combining moving personal testimony, biblical insights and exposition, Mark Stibbe opens the scriptures to reveal the Father heart of God, stirring the reader to go deeper into God's Word and to worship Him afresh.

I'm enjoying my daily readings so much that often I'll find I've read three or four days at a time.

Thoroughly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Missing the Diamond, 13 July 2014

An affectionate and brief 48 minute overview of the Queen's reign and achievements. Nothing new revealed but a fair summary.

Two stars lost because there is minimal reference to the actual Jubilee itself. The title is a little misleading.

Israel in the New Testament
Israel in the New Testament

5.0 out of 5 stars A joy to read, 15 Nov. 2013
In a readable and personable style, David Pawson builds a clear case from Scripture, that "Israel has a future in God's purposes; that He has not finished with Israel; that neither the people nor the place have been left behind in God's purposes."

The book is divided into five chapters focusing on Matthew, Acts, Romans, Hebrews and Revelation. If you are searching for a clear and careful refutation of replacement theology - so called, then this book is a great introduction.

"I say then, Hath God cast away His people? God forbid...God hath not cast away His people which He foreknew..." Romans 11:1,2

Does Your Tongue Need Healing?
Does Your Tongue Need Healing?
by Derek Prince
Edition: Paperback
Price: £4.95

5.0 out of 5 stars Your Tongue - The Mirror Of Your Heart, 16 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The central premise of this concise, Scripture packed, Bible study is that 'Men determine their destinies by the way they use their tongues.' (p35)

In nine short chapters, Derek Prince offers heartfelt biblical insights into the many scriptures that deal with the crucial subject - the use of our tongues. Described in James 3:8 as a 'restless evil, full of deadly poison,' (p27) and containing the power of 'Death and life...' Proverbs 18:21 (p12), we are also reminded that, '...every careless word that men shall speak, they shall render account for it in the day of judgement.' Matthew 12:36 (p15)

Using the analogy of the doctor examining the patient's tongue,(p14) Derek Prince identifies from the Bible, six 'diseases of the tongue', (See Chapter 5) two examples of which are: 'excessive talking' and 'hastiness of speech'. The cause for these diseases is discussed in Chapter 6. In subsequent chapters, again supported from scripture, the ways in which our tongue may be healed and used for God's glory are explained with clarity and wisdom.

I loved this book and in particular, Chapter 2, the beautiful Scriptures from Psalm 45 and the Song of Solomon as a picture of the Messiah and His Bride, the Church. Despite its brevity, every word is a precious and loving warning to those who profess to follow Christ, to cleanse our hearts and control our tongues. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A valuable resource!, 4 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have owned this book for nearly three years and it continues to yield its treasure.

Using the biblical record, the author places people and events within their time frame and in their proper sequence while addressing the challenges (for example, the theory of evolution) to the chronological framework of the Bible. Dr Floyd Jones in the opening title, 'Establishing the Correct Foundation', discusses the two key world views and their effect on biblical chronology.

A CD included with 'Chronology of the Old Testament), contains the six charts that are discussed comprehensively in the book. Discussions include: The date of creation; David's age at his slaying of Goliath and Daniel's 483 year prophecy specifying the time of the Saviour's birth, ministry and crucifixion. Over fifty illustrations and diagrams (for example: The Kings of Israel; Job's chronology; and Returning exiles listings comparison in Ezra and Nehemiah) offer further clarification and insight.

This is a scholarly and fascinating piece of research establishing the total accuracy, truth and historical authenticity of the Bible. Highly recommended.

The Omega Conspiracy: Satan's Last Assault on God's Kingdom

5.0 out of 5 stars '...What shall be the sign of Thy coming and of the end of the world?' Matthew 24:3, 3 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
'As it is in the days of Noah, so it will be when the son of man returns...' Matthew 24:37

In his introduction, highlighting the unfathomable dimensions of our universe, Dr Thomas states: 'Astronomers equipped with giant and sophisticated telescopes have probed to a distance of 1,000,000 billion, billion miles... and still it is not the end. Puny man stands awe-struck and silent before such awesome proportions.'

Referring to scriptures about the signs and wonders in the skies, Dr Thomas focuses upon what is written about the end times and explores the Christian and non-Christian fascination with outer space. What does the Bible have to say, for example, about visitors from outer space and especially the entities known as the Nephilim? Do ancient writings including mythology have their roots in history?

This is not a book of speculation and preposterous predictions, but a fascinating, scholarly and meticulously researched examination of the prophetic scriptures, addressing the question of exactly what precipated God to move in judgement, wiping out the ancient world and all that breathed, with the exception of eight people (Genesis 6 - 8).

If conditions today are similar to the days of Noah, what are the similarities? There are many unexplained phenomena that are happening today, but, says the author, 'such things have happened in the past with biblical evidence to endorse them.'

Whatever your view, Christian or non Christian, 'The Omega Conspiracy' is well worth reading. Recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars A God-Given Resource., 1 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Derek Prince describes from Scripture, the unlimited, God given potential of the power of proclaiming God's word, whether corporately or individually; whether personal, regional, national or even international. "Every believer," says the author, in the opening chapter of his book, "has both the privilege and the responsibility to proclaim God's Word." (p9)

In this clearly explained and readable biblical guide, supported by scripture and testimony, the believer is encouraged to appropriate the promises of God in a range of situations such as 'Overcoming Negative Thinking' (Chapter 10)or 'Proclaiming in National and International Affairs' (Chapter 13).

The book is divided into two parts. In fourteen short chapters, part 1 'Proclaiming God's Word' explains the spiritual significance of declaring God's Word. The second part, 'Proclamations' (Chapters 15 - 31 -again short chapters), offers a wonderful fund of scriptures for praying and proclaiming. These are grouped under ten headings such as: 'Righteousness and Holiness', 'Guidance, Protection and Preservation', 'Mental and Emotional Stability' and 'Serving God'. Derek Prince rightly emphasises by the way, the importance of being Holy Spirit led as opposed to merely repeating verses from the Bible. Indeed, this has inspired me to put together my own Scriptures to declare aloud for personal devotion and for a variety of situations. This book has been a source of inspiration for my prayer life.

While in some cases I have a different perspective, for instance the subject of healing being in the atonement, I nevertheless recommend this book as a valuable, inspiring and God breathed resource for any time of prayer, praise and supplication.

Has God Finished with Israel?
Has God Finished with Israel?
by Rob Richards
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Has God cast off His people?, 23 April 2013
`I say, Hath God cast away His people? God forbid...' Romans 11:1

An important question that has divided many honest Christians is whether or not the church has replaced Israel in God's purposes.

His own beliefs challenged, Rob Richards began a search through the scriptures to ascertain whether such claims were supported by the Bible. Could an everlasting covenant between God and Israel be terminated by Israel's repeated disobedience? Could all the promises originally made to Israel, now be transferred to the church? What does prophecy say about God's purposes for Israel, past, present and future?

Rob Richards takes the four elements of God's covenant with Abraham in Genesis 12: a People; a Place; a Purpose; and Perpetuity, explaining the significance of each. Through the scriptures from Old and New Testaments such as Jeremiah 33:20-12, and Romans 11:1, and using wonderful analogies of a motorway contraflow, inter-connecting railway tracks, and fishplates, (Read the book!) he shows not only how God's purposes and promises for Israel stand today but also continue into perpetuity.

My one criticism is that while many biblical prophecies are opened up so insightfully, the culmination of God's dealings with Israel, described in Jeremiah 30:7 as `the time of Jacob's Trouble', is not really explored in sufficient depth. Clearly this is a huge subject. The outcome of the seven year tribulation, however, is the fulfilment of God's everlasting covenant promises to Israel, through to the millennial reign and into eternity. As such, this understanding of both God's wrath and His love for Israel, makes absolute sense of end time scriptures such as Matthew 24 and 25, Daniel 9 -12 and Zechariah 14: examples of so many scriptures which are addressed specifically to or about the Jewish nation.

Indeed, according to the author, there are within the Bible: "903 chapters focused principally on Israel and virtually all written in Hebrew. That is, 78% of the entire Biblical writings quite apart from adding all the Old Testament quotations or allusions to it in the New Testament."(P24)

Two of many important points made by the writer are as follows: the church cannot simply claim God's blessings for herself while applying the curses to Israel (P150,151). Furthermore, chapter 13, shows how we as a church have lost sight of our Hebraic roots and the impact of this upon our understanding of the Bible. ('How the Church Lost the Way' by Steve Maltz is a well researched book about this issue.)

I thoroughly recommend `Has God Finished With Israel?' Its twenty chapters and hundreds of scripture references are a powerful and honest testimony of one man's journey as led by the Holy Spirit. Praise God for this book and I pray that the Lord will continue to open His word to Rob Richards and all of us concerning the truth about God's purposes for Israel.
