4.0 out of 5 stars Book not always in print, 12 Mar 2013

Because of its age (1970s) this book can be difficult to find in shops. Used version had been well read (!) but adequately clean. Came promptly after order.

3.0 out of 5 stars Heatkeeper? or not?, 12 Mar 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
easy to instal. liked the video. definitely needs a smidgeon of glue on the back of the double sided tapes to keep the product on the wall. Good value here - better than on other sites - but does it make any difference to radiator performance? I've had them in place throughout this cold snap and I'm not yet convinced. Ask me in a year's time.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real book on Sicilian cooking, 11 Nov 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Made in Sicily (Hardcover)
Giorgio Locatelli's book is not cheap but is very well presented and will "last" the rigours of the kitchen in its hardback form. He puts forward what looks to be a genuine story of Sicilian cooking, where the ingedients you can find available to buy on any one day, form the basis for the completed dish, rather than the other way round. This is an intriguing way of putting recipes together, as you probably will not be able to get everything together on every occasion. So you will be able to experiment.

The book is nicely laid out with pictures of Sicilian scenes and the types of dish are well grouped. I am not the major cook in my household, to put it mildly, nor am I a vegetarian, but I am informed that there is something for everyone here. Certainly, even as a part timer, I will be able to follow the processes printed in the book.

The Amazon price represents a sustantial discount on the list price, as incidentally, does the price quoted by other online retailers.

All in all, an excellent purchase.

Somerset Stations: Then and Now
Somerset Stations: Then and Now
by Mike Oakley
Edition: Hardcover
Price: 9.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Somerset history lesson for rail enthusiasts., 17 Jan 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Well researched with pictures of "then and now" stations. It is actually quite interesting that so many remain. The author has been painstaking in his tracking activities. This book is an excellent reference point for anyone with interest in the county's original rail workings. it also gives an extra incentive to visit far flung villages!

4.0 out of 5 stars Handy companion for the river Lea walker, 31 Mar 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The Lea Valley Walk (guidebook) is the right size for carrying in a pocket, is factual and accurate and splits up the river into easily walkable sections. Its additional notes are useful too, eg pointing out where there are places to buy food and drink. I would certainly recommend it to anyone starting out at any point of the Lea and associated tributaries.

Reproductions of the Ordnance Survey maps are also useful but I would be grateful for a more detailed "path" map of a section. Not everyone finds it easy to follow an Ordnance Survey map and often a simple hand drawn outline of a section with "landmarks" identified would be more helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music to conjure up a memory, 31 May 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Having watched the film "And when did you last see your father", I was struck by the familiarity and quality of the music, not just any run of the mill "film music". Sure enough, it was composed by Barrington Pheloung, he of Morse and Lewis fame. To afficionados of his art, the cd faithfully reproduces the scenes, in order, in the film. Just the way to reprise the content without actually sitting through the visuals again. CD arrived promptly and in good order at a remarkably low price. Can recommend to those who like the music of Barrington Pheloung and similar authors.

Having seen a previous review, I was a bit worried, but I need not have been. The product is excellent, with really fast delivery from Avides in Germany. All features are present and I can actually make the microphone work. Mind you, I am 62. But my 2 year old grandson will love pressing the buttons to make other sounds eg. puffing steam engine and sounds of coaches. A really good extra for the fans of the Thomas series of toys and TV.
