Loved their track - wheels - last year, suspected that this might be a one hit album.. far from it. Beautiful songs, immaculate production. Still listening to it regularly.

2.0 out of 5 stars Awful overpowering bass, wooden sound and uncomfortable into the bargain, 5 Jun 2014
Was not expecting this! their sound (across dance, electronic, rock and acoustic is compressed, bass heavy and coloured. They are also tight on the head.
Although they are well made and stylish the sound is really really poor for this price.. try sony or sennheisser equivalents. I have returned mine.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great price and features.. But, do not let the battery run flat, 23 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Set the device up, got it running and used it. Then left it over the weekend in the office.
Returned to find that it would not power up. Despite using the factory charger the unit is dead. Even after 12hrs of charging and holding power buttons down.. It does not start up.
From the forums this is not a one off. i.e. very common

2.0 out of 5 stars Looks like it will do the job.. but, it doesn't, 4 April 2014
Bought this because i thought that i shouldn't buy the nasty looking plastic ones that you can find online and in most car repair stores..
Once the first couple of winter changes had been done the fuse kept blowing. Then it died, it has been with the repair man for some time as the component that needs replacing is difficult to get. A cosmetically well built but poorly designed and manufactured waste of money.

Heard a track on BBC Cymru (BBC Wales - Welsh Language station) and was hooked. The album is a massive, gothic treasure. A collection of songs that continue to grow. A truly magnificent piece of work.

3.0 out of 5 stars A case of too high expectations - A disappointment, 3 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Without a shred of doubt, Fisherman's Blues is one of the finest Folk/Rock/Celtic Soul albums I have ever heard, I loved it from the day it came out. After, the initial shock, I preferred it to this is the sea. Time has moved on and although my love for the original has remained true, the complete fisherman's blues sessions has sadly been a disappointment, I suspect that this is because I had unrealistic expectations of what this type of curated collection might offer.
I have tried, nay persevered with my listening over the last few months but my initial reaction has remained. While It offers fans the chance to hear alternative versions and extended jams, it fails to provide anything new or interesting. It is not a bad album (clearly from all the positive reviews, i am in a minority) but there is a fine line between playing blues in a folksy mood and the special stuff that Fisherman's Blues/Room to roam and a fair few Van Morrison records have produced. Sadly, to my ears this box set is on the wrong side of the line.

2.0 out of 5 stars Awful, 21 Nov 2013

This review is from: The Book Thief (Paperback)
A friend with exceptional taste forced me to buy this. I have tried over the last three months to complete it, but i cannot contemplate wasting any more of my reading time on this book. Why?
The narration by the grim reaper is a brilliant idea, but badly implemented, before the first couple of chapters were out of the way, he/she/it had about as much "character" as a snoozing commuter.
The recreation of street life in a small town in Nazi Germany was not very accurate, it seemed more suited to 1930's Wolverhapmton or Cork than any German town that i know and from personal accounts of life in Germany in the 30s and 40s that i have heard, it bore little resemblance to reality. Not that historical accuracy has to be spot on in historical fiction, but it just felt wrong, Anglo Saxon/British/Irish characterisations in a purely German context.
Personally and after a 150 pages I just came to the conclusion that it was based on a good idea but in the end was badly written; the flow, narration just did not work.
I gave up. I know that i am in a minority here but this is possibly the most over-hyped book i have come across in some time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Embarrassed, surprised but so glad that i found it!, 11 Oct 2013
HEard the track Red Kite on BBC 6 Music one evening, and found the album and bought it. Initial reactions were warm but not convinced. Particularly when i learnt of Steve's Marillion connections (Marillion? Marmite? similar things in how they elicit a boolean response). Since then the tracks kept appearing on shuffle as i was driving or cooking and despite the sometimes slightly hippy tinge.. it is a beautiful collection of subtle, crafted songs. Rapidly becoming one of my favourite albums despite how different it is to the others in that list.
Not to everyone's taste and not an immediate "wow" but a modern classic nonetheless.
Still hasn't changed my mind about Mariliion though:)!

4.0 out of 5 stars Stopped working - But customer service is excellent, 25 Sep 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It worked fine for the first 8 months. Only used it about 12 - 18 times. It now has a charge life of around 5 minutes. Well made but a complete waste of money. Of course, along with payment of taxes the retailer concerned does its best to confuse and avoid its obligations. Trying to find out how to deal with faulty items that are more than 30 days and less than a year is nigh on impossible.

UPDATE:
Contacted Anker and have to say that their customer service is impeccable. Not only did they replace the item without fuss. They then chased up to ensure that i was happy with the replacement!. I have since ordered a couple of their other products as a result of this. Thank you Anker.
