Good lace stitch dictionary, 16 April 2014
This is a good intro into Shetland lace designs as all the other reviewers have pointed out.
The one thing that upsets me about the book is the charts. The author hasn't followed typical charting, with the chart being how your finished piece will look exactly (empty square means knit on right side, purl on wrong side). All the laces have been done in garter stitch, so should have an empty row of squares and then a shaded or dotted row of squares. But the charts have been done in what would usually be stocking stitches with all the squares empty. Although it does make the charts look cleaner I suppose, I do feel it's not a good introduction into chart reading since most other knitting patterns, not just for lace, won't be charted in a similar manner.
That aside, it's a lovely book, and very good if you're interested in designing your own laces, and have a bit of experience knitting lace.
