4.0 out of 5 stars Bill Bryson at his best, 25 May 2010

A very enjoyable read, he travels around the states, in his mothers old car and beautifully describes the idiosyncracies of small town america and the disappointments of larger cities. The corporate changes since his childhood visits and his acerbic criticism of so called progress. Although this was written in the 1990's it is still an extremely good and entertaining journal of change.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great time saver, economical and efficient, 13 Jan. 2010

Really useful appliance, only heating the precise amount required it is economical and green too. It is excellent for coffee,cappachino/latte and chocolate and although you can get a perfectly acceptable cup of tea, I think it does not quite get to full tea brewing temperature which is not exactly to my taste. Overall, I recommend this product to anyone thinking of buying it, the saving in water and power is an added bonus.

The Selfish Gene: 30th Anniversary edition
The Selfish Gene: 30th Anniversary edition

4.0 out of 5 stars The Selfish Gene, 4 Oct. 2009

This is a very good book, well written and although quite a complex subject, fairly easy to comprehend. Richard Dawkins has his views about the gene in evolution which sometimes is radically different from perceived opinion and he puts this across in terms which brook no argument. As a layman, once or twice I felt I was being lectured rather than informed. This book has certainly created debate and conjecture but it is worth reading, just because it opens up the subject to anyone with a passing interest in the story of evolution.

The Last Continent: A Discworld Novel: 22
The Last Continent: A Discworld Novel: 22
by Terry Pratchett
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars the last continent, 4 Oct. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
An enjoyable story, typical of Terry Pratchett although, in my opinion, not one of his best. His stories usually flow very well but this one tended to jump around a lot and it was almost like he was trying to fit in as many parody/puns about Australia and it's culture as possible. Having said that it is still worth reading.

A Short History Of Nearly Everything
A Short History Of Nearly Everything

4.0 out of 5 stars A Short History of Nearly Everything, 2 Sept. 2009

An interesting book, full of facts about the earth and its inhabitants. Although it is reasonably easy to read, the plethora of names of different epochs and eras can get a bit confusing. It helps if you a have interest in the prehistory of the planet. I would recommend this to other readers who might enjoy loads of interesting facts and figures.

4.0 out of 5 stars value for money dect phones, 8 April 2009

Sleek and good looking, these phones offers good clarity with useful set up adjustments. The one phone transmit to all feature is good you just load one phone with your contact numbers and then copy them to each phone. The ringtone selection is a bit disappointing but the sound quality of the handset outweighs any drawbacks. Excellent value for money.
