One of the best films of 2013. Brilliantly acted and directed. A truly harrowing tale of Solomon adapted from his own memoirs. If you've read the book it is basically an exact retelling of his experience of slavery. So no, there are not any scenes of relief or humour because that is not what Solomon experienced. This film has not been made to produce a reaction of guilt either because it is just what Solomon experienced whether you choose to believe it or not. Ignore the fact that it got awards etc. watch 12 years a slave because it is a film that needs to be seen to be believed. Extremely powerful imagery and a tale of a true hero.
