1.0 out of 5 stars Is it doing anything?, 29 Aug 2013

No idea if this is doing anything. It never says it has updated or found viruses or adware or anything else for that matter.

Wants too many permissions on your device. Bloated adware. Don't touch.

9 more words for amazon, why do we have to do this? Is this just some random rule imposed by one of your intellectually challenged marketing people?

As the title says I Couldn't get it to install or start up.

Seven more words especially for Amazon. What is this crud? Why do you insist we type a certain number of words??

It sits there but never says it has updated itself or found any ads or viruses or anything else. So I don't actually know if it's doing anything!

2.0 out of 5 stars Works but not enough keyboard, 29 Aug 2013

You only get to see enough keyboard to play one hand or the other, so not much use apart from very simple learning.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, 29 Aug 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Great book, goes through every step thoroughly with heaps of screenshots and clear explanations of various processes. I have no experience with Lightroom (am waiting for it to arrive in the post) but I can understand everything in this book with no problems.

I would have given it 5 except it is *so* thorough that it covers too many intermediate menu steps (which are pretty obvious) so it gets tedious and hard to stick with at times. Apart from that, thumbs up!

2.0 out of 5 stars Cheap and doesn't agree with Nikon charger, 28 Aug 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Thin brittle plastic. It only has two contact pins as the manual says most batteries only use those two. However the Nikon charger has 5 pins, probably for a reason! The most worrying thing is that my Nikon charger says the battery is full yet this thing keeps on pumping power into it.

I really only bought it to use with the car charger in emergencies, so it will probably do for that as I won't necessarily want to fully charge the battery. But I don't think I'll be using it with the mains power again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good info but very short, 27 Aug 2013
Covers all the basics but only a page or two to each "chapter". It's more like the first introductory chapter to a big book than a stand-alone book.

I suspect there will be a book per chapter for the next few months/years and then they'll all be rolled into a proper book at the end. It's a quick way to make money by the looks of it, rather than waiting until the author has a real book ready.

The info in it is worthwhile, but beware - it's more of a pamphlet than a book.

Stick it in the camera and fire away. Fast, no delays shooting 14-bit RAW files, and lots of storage space.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hubba hubba!, 27 Aug 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Couldn't ask for more in a camera, except a faster burst rate but then I don't do sports photography so don't need it.

I use the camera on manual, the lenses on manual most of the time and a light meter. So by and large I have the camera for the pixels and the Nikon lenses. Fantastic for landscapes and portraits, studio shots etc.

If you buy this camera I assume you are serious about your image quality. So I recommend a good monitor, a monitor calibrator, a colorchecker passport to build profiles for your camera in Lightroom, and a decent modern light-meter that can install profiles for your own camera.

Add those to the price if you are considering buying a D800, plus of course the best lenses you can buy (check the Dxomark web site).

And no, no matter how great the in-camera metering modes are, they are too variable under different lighting/subject conditions to be reliable.

If you spend money on this camera, don't waste it. Get at least the things recommended above for your workflow. You can always get prints from a lab if you aren't into printer/paper calibration etc.
