Oral-B Vitality Plus White and Clean Electric Rechargeable Toothbrush
Oral-B Vitality Plus White and Clean Electric Rechargeable Toothbrush
Price: £19.97

5.0 out of 5 stars Polishing cup toothbrush, 10 Mar. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I am not entirely sure why Oral B make so many different varieties of their electric toothbrush but my personal experience of using several different ones over the past few years has been that they are all excellent. It entirely depends on how complicated a toothbrush you require - they even make Bluetooth versions now! This particular Vitality Plus White and Clean is a straightforward electric toothbrush that sits on a charger that will plug into a shaver socket or an adaptor for a two-pin plug. It takes about 16 hours to charge up initially after which you can either leave it permanently on the charger - it cannot overcharge - or just give it a boost every so often. It comes with two detachable brush heads - and the major new feature for this toothbrush in particular is that the round heads are bigger than the previous round ones and are designed with a central cup to surround the tooth and polish the surface as they rotate and oscillate. I really like this new head but all the Oral B heads are interchangeable so it would be possible to put a different one on to it. There is a two minute timer to prompt you to move the brush to another part of your mouth which is a sensible feature. I would be happy to recommend this toothbrush particularly with these heads.

5.0 out of 5 stars I was impressed when I received it – it looks really good and although surprisingly light, 26 Feb. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
If this toaster lasts through the heavy use it is going to get I shall be more than impressed. I was impressed when I received it – it looks really good and although surprisingly light, it seems to be robust and functions very well. I like the blue lights that show which slot is being used – a really good feature that other manufacturers could usefully copy. Inevitably a four slice toaster is large but this is not huge like some and is a sensible square shape.
There are two sets of controls, each one for two slots, for length of toasting, to defrost or to cancel and each slot takes a sensible slice of bread of various shapes and thicknesses. The push-down slider for each pair of slots feels decisive and clicks properly into place and the Cancel button works well. The toast is cooked in a reasonable length of time – about average I would say – and cooks evenly on both sides, helped by the fact that the slice of bread is held in place by the sprung holders that grip when you push down the slider.
There are two separate crumb trays accessible from the back at the bottom of the toaster and these slide out easily. Perhaps might have been more convenient if they were at the side or the front.
My one real reservation is that the flex is positioned under the toaster on the right hand side towards the front which makes it very awkward to position unless you have a power point in the right place. There will be a temptation to sit the toaster on top of the wire which probably is a poor move.
However, on balance I vote this toaster a hit.

4.0 out of 5 stars Neat little mixer, 26 Feb. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
First impressions – very good: a really sturdy feeling body and a neat design. The beaters slot into their holes very easily and don't wobble and the ejector button is excellent and works perfectly. At the price it is a good little mixer but I don't feel that it is designed for hard or continuous use – if you just want it to beat up the odd batch of egg whites or the occasional cake mix it's fine but I would not think it would cope with beating heavy mixes and almost certainly not bread dough.
The first time I used it I had not read the instructions which tell you not to let the motor run for more than 1 minute without cooling it down and I mixed up a sponge cake mix – always a good test for a beater. It certainly took longer than one minute and I didn't notice that the motor had heated up significantly, so I guess this is the usual 'health & safety' approach.
Disappointed to find that the beaters are not stainless steel but chrome and I would not therefore put them in the dishwasher, unlike those of my old Kenwood hand beater which remained pristine to the end of their life despite countless washes in the machine.
There are 5 speeds controlled by a button which you can control with your thumb. However, it's rather a fierce little switch and needs quite a push to get it from one speed to another and because it is rigid plastic I wonder how strong this switch will prove to be. The speeds are barely different from each other which I find quite extraordinary. The slowest speed is pretty fast which is rather irritating when making a cake as you can find everything scooting up wildly to start with.
Finally, why on earth has it got such a short flex? This could be really annoying if your power points are not near, or convenient for your worktop area.
Verdict: you get what you pay for and, for occasional use, this will do very well.

Finish All in One Max Dishwasher Tablets Original, 74 Tablets
Finish All in One Max Dishwasher Tablets Original, 74 Tablets

5.0 out of 5 stars A dishwasher's dream, 18 Feb. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I live in an area of very hard chalky water which is inclined to make everything cloudy in a dishwasher and to clog up machines. Finish all-in-one tablets are not the cheapest but there is absolutely no doubt that they work very efficiently. There are smears on anything at the end of the cycle, even the cheap glasses come out shining. It seems to deal with the grubbiest of stuck-on food and has a nice clean smell at the end. One of the best things is that you don't have to faff about getting a paper wrapper off - the whole thing goes neatly into the machine. I am converted!

4.0 out of 5 stars Thoughts from a Hungarian castle, 18 Feb. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Embers (Hardcover)
Although this book was written a long time ago, the writing remains fresh despite the time setting of the story (in the early 1900s). It is a picture of a totally different world where people had time to let thoughts of revenge linger and fester. The human emotions and insightful character studies prevent the book being too introspective and gloomy - it is a fascinating read. It is not a long book and, surprisingly, holds the attention throughout. The nugget at the centre of the tale is perhaps no great surprise but the analysis of the central character's reactions are intriguing. A very different and interesting book. Originally written in Hungarian this is a translation from the German and it's possible that some of the style of the original writing is not completely represented but it doesn't affect the integrity of the story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good garden pegs, 29 Dec. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
These are sturdy plastic pegs for anchoring fleece or mulching fabric or similar. They are easy to push through the fabric and into the ground - though they might be tough to use on hard dry clay soil for a tent groundsheet. The only difficulty arises when you want to remove them as they have the serrated teeth down the edges which clings on! Getting them out of a plastic mulching sheet led to quite a few tussles and tears in the fabric so I would recommend using these pegs for something that is to be fairly permanently fixed rather than moved around too often.

5.0 out of 5 stars Natty little bee house, 29 Dec. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this in the early summer and hung it on a wall and waited for the bees - they took a while to find it, and I would say that siting this little house is probably the secret of success. However, quite a few bees were seen buzzing about and gradually the hollow bamboo rods were plugged by them so presumably they were happy with their new home. The tin roof is a good idea as it prevents the rods getting wet and it all looks quite nice and neat. I shall be interested to see whether the bees will return in 2015 and use it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Minecraft rules...., 29 Dec. 2014

I bought this for the grandsons who are obsessed with Minecraft. The individual pieces, plastic of course, do seem to be very well finished and painted in bright colours and well made. The boys were delighted with it all so I guess that's all one wants.

5.0 out of 5 stars Football inflator adaptor, 29 Dec. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Pleasantly surprised to find that there were several adaptors in the packet which is a good thing as they don't last for ever. This is a neat little adaptor which will enable your bicycle pump or airbed inflator to pump up the football or basketball. How to keep the boys happy in the garden - they hate the deflated footballs that usually lurk in the shed.

5.0 out of 5 stars ...from an extremely patient father...., 29 Dec. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A very wayward son! Most fathers would have wanted to strangle the wretched boy, but of course you couldn't because he is utterly charming and delightful if feckless. Charlie Mortimer is endlessly patient, wonderfully observant and very, very funny. A lovely entertaining read that will make you realise how wonderful your own family is (most of the time!).....
