What a great story, so well written and so hard to put sown. On the face of it, a story about a man working with codes during the second world war, you would most likely pass it by. But the writer has a way with words, that transforms the unusual and the everyday into a riveting story, and his sense of humour is wonderful. I have just read it for the second time, and enjoyed it every bit a s much as the first time.

Great story about one of the 60's prime movers, who attracted many well known artists and musicians, before ultimately becoming one of the early victims of Aids. But if you lived through this period, as I did, then this is a jolly good read.

Not a big fan of Frank, but the combination of music and lyrics on this Cd is a winner, still fresh after all these years

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating, buy it !, 29 May 2015

Just finished watching this DVD, and I really enjoyed it. The story of "The underground" a subject often misunderstood, and hard to explain, to anyone who didn't live through it. And quite frankly, even if you remember it, unless you were at the core, probably unfamiliar to many of us, exactly what promoted and produced it. As Joe Boyd says here, without Hoppy, how much of it would have occurred , and sadly after he was locked up for 6 months for a trivial offence, the "authorities" did manage to silence it's main protagonist. It does bring back some great memories, and will help future generations to have some idea as to what brought about the huge cultural shift, in music and art, morals and religion of the sixties. If you want to understand some of the most interesting recent decade, the 60's, then buy this, and enjoy it !

Classic comedy, the man was a genius. His delivery is so sharp and fast that sometimes you have to rewind it to get all the humour. It's so original, inventive, and entertaining, you can watch it several times. I love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I want to tell you a story, 'bout a great man, if i can ......., 19 May 2015

This has got to be the best "psychedelic" album of the sixties ! Written by a man ( Syd Barrett ) who at the time of recording this music, was, i believe a genius. Sadly within a few months due to excessive consumption of LSD, he was lost, and never capable of anything approaching this again. You could say that this was "The Pink Floyd" but afterwards, they were "just" The Floyd. Barrett left and so did the Pink element. All the songs are by Syd, except Take up thy stethoscope and walk, by Roger Waters, and a couple of band collaborations. An infectious collection of whimsy and nursery rhythms, backed by jazzy inventive sound. It sounds as good today as when released, in fact even better, on this re-mastered Cd. I have the original LP but this is clearer, better defined. Sadly his last gig was at the 'Ally Pally, where he was incapable of playing his guitar, but just listen to this Cd and be thankful that when he was in his prime, it has been preserved, for the rest of us to enjoy now and forever. R.I.P. Syd.

A great book, written by someone who loves the island, as I do, and live there. What's not so good is that the places less discovered, become more so, so if you use the book, please show respect for our environment, and leave no trace of your visit, just carry the memories with you. Rob has also done a lot for various charities on the island, so buy the book, and help support a "good man".

Great book, if like me you grew up in these times, lot's of information, that at the time was unclear. It was a time of optimism, and naivety, but sadly we have come "full circle" since then and returned to a time where advertising and hype have replaced, truth and art.
Today music is all about the media and the image, not about content and reality. Interesting to read today ..........
I would also recommend Richard Neville's "Hippie, Hippie Shake" a great read !!

3.0 out of 5 stars More bass, but ............., 19 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
As an owner of " Hi-Fi" equipment I found the sound somewhat lacking. If you have only the TV sound this will give you more bass, but it's not what I would call "musical bass" it's fat and thick. I have a pair of Alesis studio monitors, and Ok they do cost close to £300, but the sound is on another level, so it depends on your expectation as to how these sound. I would recommend that you audition these before buying ...........
