5.0 out of 5 stars RAZE is dark, powerful, brutal, raw, heart-wrenching and insanely addictive. A MUST READ!, 4 Jan. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: RAZE (Kindle Edition)
OMG! I just pulled an all-nighter. I need sleep, but after this heart wrenching, brutal showdown I doubt I will get much to be honest. Raze is one of the most tortured souls I've ever read. This book truly affected me, it was raw, brutal, but sinfully addictive!

"In that cage, we are both Gods and monsters."

Raze didn't just consume me; heart, mind, body and soul, it set me on fire! It pushed every emotional trigger and at times it hurt, my god it stung and brought tears to my eyes as you are thrown into an inpenetratable darkness that leaves you feeling bereft, bitter and broken. Unlocking the past piece by piece becomes critical in order to enact revenge on the one who took it all, until you are left with agonising hard truths and a rage so deadly, lord have mercy on whoever stands in the way.

Revenge is the most deadly emotion, the most unforgiving and Prisoner 818 is on a mission of seek and destroy...

Dark, powerful, brutal, raw, heart-wrenching and insanely addictive, Raze will stay with you long after the final page. I won't deny there are some scenes that are very hard to read. To come from a renowned and much feared Russian mafia family and to have seen death at such a young age is one thing, but when someone whom you regard as family betrays you, the consequences have devastating affects for everyone, including those you leave behind.

Kisa is an incredible heroine. She may be a Daughter of the Russian Bratva, but she knows what prison feels like. She still misses him, her Luka, the boy who stole her heart at 13.

Alik is another Bratva heir, Kisa's fiance and jail keeper. The most feared in an underworld cage fighting ring at The Dungeon. He is a stone cold killer with no remorse. The undefeated champion where only one is left standing...

Blood-thirsty and raw, Raze is a story of survival and revenge, but deep in the bones tells another tale; one of love, hope and destiny. Told in alternative POV, Kisa and Raze's story is hard hitting and painful, but it is also beautiful and forgiving as two soulmates learn to become one, finding light in a world washed with blood, betrayal and death.

I love my angst, and this dark romance did not disappoint. Raze... my beautiful, tortured broken boy. My book loving beating heart will love you...forever!

Jacked (Trent Brothers Book 1)
Jacked (Trent Brothers Book 1)
Price: £2.06

5.0 out of 5 stars A well-written, intricate, emotional and thrilling love story a cut above the rest. BRILLIANT! 5 Stars, 30 Dec. 2014
Oh yes...she's back!! And Jacked was definitely worth the wait!

Tina Reber is like my personal brand of heroin, her books just leave me high. Love Unscripted and Love Unrehearsed blew me away and remains a top favourite of mine, so I was incredibly excited when the news came that there was going to be a Trent Brother's spin-off.
And, WOW...Jacked does not disappoint!

Tina has delivered, in all its unstoppable and addictive glory, another well-written, intricate, emotional and thrilling love story a cut above the rest. You don't just get a love story, you get a life story. You form friendships as you tap into their past while moving forward with them in the present - you not only feel every emotion plaguing each character, you understand them. There is no greater gift, because this is a journey that spans well over 500 pages, and takes you on a whirlwind of every feel imaginable. I'm all about the feels... but they can only really come with great characterisation, flowing dialogue and a plot intricacy that keeps your heart pounding and your brain ticking with anticipation, and Jacked delivered in every category. Damn, this woman can write!

Even though this is a spin-off from the Love series, it can be read as a standalone. Past characters do not play a hand in this story.

So what is this book about? Well, it is a love story at the core, between two characters who are complete polar opposites; each with flaws and insecurities of their own, both highly successful in their own right.

Erin Novak is an ER doctor who has finished her residency training and now works in one of the busiest ER rooms in Philadelphia.

Detective Adam Trent is not only a bad-ass ATTF officer who has dedicated his life to catching hardened auto criminals, but he is also a new face on a cable crime show, and is becoming somewhat of an accidental celebrity. His professional life is monitored at every turn, and it seems to be causing a few problems within his unit.

When a stolen plate is switched and placed on Erin’s new car, their worlds collide when Adam’s unit pull her over on a busy highway. With cameras rolling and the threat of her career in tatters, she believes her day cannot get any worse!
But she is wrong…

With the confusion on the highway, a large pile-up ensues, putting Erin’s skills as an emergency doctor to the test; the tables turn when Adam’s unit help her give crucial first-aid to the victims of an accident that should have been avoided.

Watching a beautiful woman take control stirs something that has laid dormant in Adam for some time, not since his Partners murder has he ever felt the need to let another in, until now.

Erin has sworn off men, she’s had a heart broken too many times, but her career means everything and Adam’s promise to make sure her arrest recording is never aired on TV is one she hopes he never breaks, putting her trust in a man who could not only break her heart, but destroy everything she has ever worked for.

Jacked was such a beautiful reading experience because it builds gradually, allowing you to witness that connection manifest and grow into mutual understanding, trust and respect, even though their relationship from the start is thwart with complications that would have a weaker person running for the hills.

Getting inside the heads of two remarkably broken characters who seemed to have it all on the outside, while fighting their inner demons in silence was a real treat. And can I just say… sexual tension? And when that tension reaches dizzying heights, be prepared for that explosive swarm of butterflies to hit, because wow… it really is orgasmic! :D

Erin and Adam are far from perfect, and both harbour secrets set to put a spanner in the whole workings, and you hope that they beat the odds and make it.
Be prepared to fall hard and fast with this one! Adam Trent… I’m all yours!

5.0 out of 5 stars A powerful, captivating and heartbreaking read. Absolutely Stunning! 5 STARS, 30 Nov. 2014
This review is from: Me Before You (Kindle Edition)
A powerful, captivating and heartbreaking read that revolves around a controversial subject matter and personal choice. To say this book is a beautiful love story wouldn't be a lie, but at the same time there are no whispers or promises of happily ever after. Me Before You in all its honest prose is a story that will live with you for the rest of your life.

I'm struggling with how to approach this review, because a part of me isn't ready to expel it yet, I can't seem to let this story or Lou and Will go. Crazy isn't it, to think that a book can have that much power over you, that much of an affect that it literally clinches itself to your book loving soul and doesn't seem to want to let go.

As far as the writing goes, Me Before You is beautifully honest and uncomfortably raw, with an injection of that typical British dry wit and humour that we know and love offering a much needed distraction and a perfect balance. This book didn't feel like a work of fiction at all, but more a memoir by a woman that tells of a man who changed her whole outlook and attitude to life. A man, through all intents and purposes gave up hope in a life he didn't choose, only to find in those last six months a happiness he never thought existed.

Lou and Will are not your conventional couple but what they had was palpable and so honest you wanted to bask in the beauty of it. It held an air of innocence and sensitivity that is very hard to find in a romantic novel these days.

Lou is one of the strongest heroines I have ever had the pleasure of reading, throughout everything, her focus and loyalty to Will never wavered, only her emotions, and given the circumstances of Will' s demise, it was completely understandable that she experienced the case of the wobbles from time to time.

Will... Oh it's hard not to mention him without wanting to shed a tear. To have it all; success, wealth, respect, beauty, to losing it in a blink of an eye on one rainy day was such a tragedy. The need or desire to take that power back can only come from personal choice; a determined and strong mind set with a wish to be set free.

Assisted suicide is not a subject that many can discuss lightly over the dinner table, and when Will' s parents, Mr and Mrs Traynor ask for an ultimatum, Will gives his parents six months to come to terms with his decision.

Lou has just lost her job at the cafe and is in desperate need of new employment. She never thought she would end up on the doorstep of one of the richest families in her small town, or imagined she would help a disabled man as his new caregiver, but fate has a funny way of throwing two people together, especially those destined to meet.

This story is a real gem because it gives more than it takes; it makes you feel, makes you think and it challenges your personal beliefs. Throughout it all, I was compelled, inspired and even though I held on to some hope, I knew the outcome, eventually was going to be tough and break my bloody heart, but at the centre of it all, this is also a deeply moving and sensational love story that will stay with you, forever.

An absolute MUST READ!!!

OMG! I have just literally pulled an all nighter! My goodness this book drew me in from the first word and I couldn't put it down! I love a second chance love story and with D.H Sidebottom you know there's going to be an extra side order of angst and erotic ministrations that makes your heart pound, your stomach drop and your sexual libido rocket to epic proportions.

Liv and Nate are that couple from younger years that fell into that beautiful, all consuming love. The promise of forever a hares breath away, until that very moment when University ends and the prospect of a real future beckons. Liv is protecting the biggest secret a woman could have, and telling Nate would put a hold on the perfect career opportunity he has been offered in Edinburgh. Putting her love and his dreams first, Liv walks away with a part of the man she would love forever.

Twenty years later, Liv is a divorced single Mum starting a new secretarial job for NSC Industries; a highly renowned and respected company in the city. With a sleazy boss and a good bunch of colleagues, Liv makes it work but she's also trying to move on from a very turbulent and abusive marriage and her boss is pushing those professional limits putting her on edge.

Running head first into the company chairman on your second time being late that week wasn't the smartest move, face planting into his groin as you hit the floor an absolute disaster but nothing could compare her for the shock to realise that NSC Industries is owned by none other than Nathan Carter, the man she left behind all those years ago.

Nate has never moved on emotionally, never been able to settle with another. His reputation as a billionaire playboy bachelor a hot topic in many gossip columns, but to see her again knocks the breath right out of him.

Rekindling that spark from their youth comes easily, but Liv has changed, she has been through hell and not only is Nate learning of the fate that befell her when he left for Edinburgh, his guilt and anger spears them both as they try to move forward together.

All seems well until her ex Husband catches up with them both looking for revenge on the man who held his wife's heart captive, and the secret that she has harboured all these years may just be the clincher that destroys them both...

God, I absolutely loved this book! D.H Sidebottom has now jumped into my top British Author list. She destroyed me with The Decimation of Mae but the way she pulls you in with her stories that hold a dark and sinister edge just completely compel you. Her books are not always pretty but they are passionate and raw, and I am pretty sure after delving twice now into her work, I am going to love everything she writes. She does tackle some deeply upsetting subject matters and isn't afraid to hit them hard, but I love her for that. Life isn't pretty sometimes, but the prospect of better, of more, is always her final parting message.

This is a standalone read with a wicked pace and an alpha to die for. I absolutely LOVED Angel, and I cannot wait to pull more of this author's work off my to-read shelf. Brilliant!!!!

Fans of Bared to You and The Blackstone Series should read this!

5.0 out of 5 stars The MC book I was waiting for... Incredible!, 24 Nov. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Nine Minutes is the MC book I was waiting for. Totally unique, completely un-formulaic and a real knock out! Yep, this story in all its dark, gritty and refreshing brilliance will literally knock you flat on your backside, and you won't be able to get up, or put this book down until the very end.

Every scene was weaved with such precision for it to then play a hand later on making it exceptionally clever. I can imagine this author having reams and reams of plot layout and character backgrounds galore scattered throughout her house, for its execution is flawless.

Oh, it was so thrilling to read a book that initially throws you for a complete loop just in the prologue...WTF? We know the outcome of Nine Minutes going in, but the hows and whys, and the events leading up to that pivotal is what makes this edgy, fascinating and undeniably brilliant.

Is this a Stockholm Syndrome story? Well yes, I suppose it is, but whereas so many focus on the brutality turned affection, this is the complete opposite. Grizz, the MC President of an outlaw club is feared and for good reason, he is the front of a notorious club who have no concerns about feeding victims to alligators in the Florida swamps; drug trafficking, prostitution, carjacking, murder, rape, oh the list is endless but Guinivere Love Lemon is different in so many ways. A Polar opposite, the light to his darkness and Grizz has had his eye on the prize for quite a while. Where he is brutal with others, Ginny, aka Kit, is the only person he allows in, he would give her the world, even his life if that's what she wanted, the only thing he could never promise her was her freedom.

Falling in love with your captor at 15 is the last thing Ginny expected, and little does she know this is only the start of a story that spans across twenty-five years.

Turbulent, violent, beautiful and heartfelt are words that never go together, they shouldn't work, like oil mixed with water, they are repellent but my goodness, does it work spades!

If you are looking for an MC read with a unique edge, then Nine Minutes is the book you've been waiting for. Incredible!

5.0 out of 5 stars A passionate, riveting, all-consuming beautiful love story. A great conclusion! 5 STARS, 11 Nov. 2014
“A stunning conclusion to the After Dark series. Promises After Dark is a passionate, riveting, all-consuming beautiful love story that deserves every one of those five stars! Be prepared to be dazzled!” Kelly - Perusing Princesses

In this conclusion, Angeline and Alex are slowly overcoming the attack from Mark Swanson that could have ended Angel’s life. With him now out on bail, the threat of vengeance is still at large as Alex takes every precaution in keeping his girl safe.

When Jason Bancroft becomes collateral damage, Alex and Angel, along with Cole do their best in helping the police try to find Angel’s missing security guard, but it seems Mark Swanson is smarter than they thought.

Trying to overcome the outside threat by getting on with their lives is no easy feat but they do the best they can under the circumstances, however it becomes very real when Mark calls Angel on her personal cellphone, demanding money or something ill may befall little Jillian at her 3rd Birthday party. A party that only close friends knew about. There is only one viable conclusion: They have a leak!

Leaving Chicago was a last resort, but it seems Mark Swanson will stop at nothing in enacting his revenge on Alex for leaving him bankrupt, and Angel for not letting go of the rape case; and a desperate man is a very dangerous one…

Promises After Dark is the stunning conclusion to the After Dark series. A passionate, riveting, all-consuming beautiful love story that deserves every one of those five stars. Alex Avery is a top contender in the fictitious world of alpha millionaire businessmen. Be prepared to be dazzled by his charm, wit, passion and unrelenting desire to protect what it his. Angel is right... she's the luckiest woman alive, and thank goodness she has finally laid to rest those demons in this finale and seen the truth in Alex's affections.

We know from the past two instalments that Alex is a playboy, he has never given his heart to anyone, but all that changed when the beautiful, headstrong Doctor Angeline Hemming came into his life. From the offset, the transition from instant lust to adulated affection to full all-consuming and passionate love has been such a pleasurable journey.

The bedroom scenes are heated, but beautifully constructed with so much emotion, you can’t help but feel enamoured by these characters, as they come together (pardon the pun) on every conceivable level - emotionally and physically.

The crime-thriller element really gives this series substance, because it could have been another millionaire mogul meets feisty female, but it is so much more than that. Angel’s character really comes into her own in this one. We have seen her question Alex’s motives, to the point that if it continued for much longer it would have been somewhat monotonous, but as it stands, her acceptance is highlighted beautifully and I was so proud of her for finally embracing what Alex so clearly wants to give.

Kahlen Aymes does it again!

"Fairy Tale in New York is an uplifting, festive, feel good novella that restores faith in hope and humanity. The perfect Christmas read!" ~ Kelly, Perusing Princesses Blog.

Fairy Tale in New York is another compelling and beautifully executed christmastime read by Nicky Wells. We meet Jude and Carrie again in this standalone novella (Jude was first introduced in Spirits of Christmas, although you do not need to read that beforehand as both stories are standalone's).

The synopsis covers this story beautifully, so I won't add anything else in relation to the plot, but I will tell you how this book made me feel, and that was fulfilled. The characters that Jude and Carrie meet along the way is what made this story shine. When you are stranded in thick snow, a foreign country, with a child and no room at the inn, you have no choice but to put your trust in strangers. In today's climate, that is a very hard thing to do but desperate times make for desperate measures. Fairy Tale In New York is about taking that leap of faith and putting your trust in your fellow man in the hope that everything will be okay in the end, and what a beautifully fulfilling and feel-good journey it made.

If you are looking for soul-warming, uplifting, festive read this Christmastime, then you cannot go far wrong with this latest offering by the wonderfully gifted Nicky Wells.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lock and Key is an intricate, long and compelling read that delivers - A debut knock out! 5-STARS, 6 Nov. 2014
This review is from: Lock & Key (Kindle Edition)
This debut MC novel is an absolute knock out! There are so many MC related stories out there right now and to deliver something of this calibre in a saturated market is an incredible feat. Cat Porter, where on earth did you come from?

Lock and Key is an intricate, long and compelling read that delivers in every area. From young love to sisterhood, brotherhood, murder, loss, betrayal, heartache and beyond, this book has the lot!

Primarily, this is a second chance love story, but it is also a story of life. Grace hasn't had it easy, and running away from her past only prolongs the agony. Only when she comes back home she gets to face those demons and finally put them to rest while finding solace in the arms of a man who stands for everything she left behind.

With a dying sister, a young nephew, club unfinished business and a secret surrounding the loss of Dig, her Husband, all those years ago, Grace aka Little Sister really is a 3D character carrying a lot of baggage. To break through and get those past and present snippets throughout the story, brings it all together in one fluent, full embodied read that makes for one incredible reading experience.

Miller is that character who is strangely secretive, but you know that a hot, fiery volcano about to explode is lying in wait beneath. My goodness that man has serious sex appeal and he doesn't even have to try hard, and that's what I loved about him. I did not find any part of this book seedy in the sex department, in fact, much of it was beautiful in its own way even if some scenes were primal f-f-ing. Can't beat a bit of primal or alpha, and we get both here... with characters in their prime (yes, I'm talking late 30's / Early 40's for the most part).

I am not going to go into a plot overview on this one because this is a long book, with a clever intricacy that made for one hell of a ride. Lock and Key may be hearty, but there is no fluff or filler here. Every chapter deserved to be there; every twist and turn, sex scene, conversation, dream, thought, everything... made this book stand out from the crowd. I can only attribute that to the impeccable writing and plot planning by this incredible author who has just put a strong foothold under the proverbial MC church table.

If you are a true fan of the MC Romance genre, then Lock and Key is an absolute MUST READ!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars A sweet and erotic guilty pleasure read. 3 STARS, 6 Nov. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Her Dark Angel is a sweet and erotic guilty pleasure read. There was nothing original here and the storyline was a little laclustre but I guess that is common with novellas. A lot of emphasis was put on the insta-lust and not so much on the plot but yes, the sex is hot between the dark Angel, Apollyon and the human witch, Serenity. A story of revenge in the name of infidelity turned forbidden lustful affair, to love, makes for a short, naughty night time read that will definitely scratch an itch or two, but don't expect an intricate or refreshing Angel/Human love story because you won't find it here.

I will say however, that the writing is very good and I did find it a pleasurable read, I just would have liked a little more depth because the author had some very nice ideas, I just don't think it was executed as well as it could have been.

"A deeply emotional, dark and captivating read." - Kelly, Perusing Princesses

Wow! This book is no easy read but my goodness, does it pack a punch in all the right places! There is no denying it, this book is pretty dark, with glimpses of light and unfathomable beauty. A tale of family, sisterhood and survival.

You Loved Me At My Darkest does involve disturbing scenes of kidnap, captivity, violence and rape; like I said... No easy read, yet at the same time there is a welcome reprieve when our main heroine, Lily, starts to build a profound connection with her captive guard, Jake.

Immediately, I knew there was more to Jake than meets the eye but I had no idea how this story was to unfold and I must say, I was hooked from the first page. That prologue is not pretty but like the perfect erotic thriller, you can't look away and immediately I knew I was in for the long haul.

Lily and Sasha are the true testament that blood is thicker than water. When they are both kidnapped from their last vacationing day in New York City, this once-in-a-lifetime trip to help move on from the grief of losing both their parents, turns into every womans living nightmare. Lily, remains the rock for her younger sister Sasha, she will stop at nothing to protect her but when they get separated at a large mansion run by an evil sex trafficker, their chances of seeing each other again are slim, with escape a near impossibility.

Lily, the eldest and most beautiful is lavished with expensive clothes and a nice room, a prison draped in luxury as she becomes one of the 'special collection'.

Sasha on the other hand is put into the slave quarters. Her job is to not speak and do as her told. But the message is clear; no one gets to escape, you are sold to the highest bidder as a sex slave, or you leave in a bodybag.

Jake is the guard put in charge of keeping Lily safe from harm in between the days that her services are not needed. It has been four years and the things he has witnessed would make a weaker man weep, but Jake has a reason for being in that house, and nothing is going to stop him getting where he wants to be. The game plan is to make it to the top, and he has never faltered or misplaced his loyalties... until now!

Lily finds solace in the unlikeliest of places, but can he be trusted? Jake can't get the last collection piece out of his mind, and that can only spell one thing for them both
... disaster!
Oh, some of the scenes that unfolded in this book made me want to scream. One minute you feel that ray of hope blooming, that maybe everything will turn out okay, to then... BAM! You get knocked sideways as things turn again on a dime, leaving you speechless and emotionally raw. So, naturally... I loved it! :)

Love in its many varying forms can be found in the darkest of places but still be prepared to shed a few tears with this one, and wear big girl pants because you sure are going to need them!
