1.0 out of 5 stars Hmmmm did I really watch this?, 17 Oct. 2014
This review is from: Willow Creek [DVD] (DVD)
Ok so was this a horror movie, or a movie about an annoying couple (especially the guy) travelling in the woods?

For all but one minute of the movie we have to endure the banter of these two and then for the last 40 seconds, there are some GASP SHOCK scary noises, and then...the end of the movie.

Save your money, get a kebab or something instead. It will probably be much scarier too.

Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This guy is one of my favourite MCs. Why? Because he raps about everyday stuff like problems with his girlfriend, the city where he lives, money issues. He raps clearly and he's brilliant at what he does.

He's featured on albums by DJ Format mostly where he's always ripped up the tracks he's on.

On this album the production isn't the best, sometimes the beats are slow and lazy and whilst he's still a good artist, this doesn't do him justice at all. There aren't that many tracks that you'd want to play at a party for example.

Disappointing considering the talent the guy has.

1.0 out of 5 stars Staggeringly unfunny..., 17 Mar. 2014
The first film was great....a newish idea, executed really well.

The second movie was tired...they were expecting audiences to lap up more of the same, but much less funny.

This movie is truly awful. I was watching it all the way through, and with 15 minutes to go I realised I'd only laughed once. And I like laughing!

So many things wrong with it 1) No funny lines, or situations 2) Too much emphasis on Chow for laughs, and he isn't funny anymore because they've overused him 3) Really basic comedy e.g. people swearing loudly, bumping into things 4) Rubbish romantic element between Alan and some woman he meets in a shop, hardly funny, seen it all before.

Really boring movie, and a complete disappointment.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great action picture, but where to go next?, 18 Oct. 2013
I think I've watched all the Resident Evil films, but don't quote me. After a while they tend to merge into one, although the effects and action sequences get better with each subsequent movie.

Mila whatshername, makes a really good action heroine, and she really makes the films. The supporting cast are neither here nor there really, they just say standard-action-film-extra lines now and then.

This film does move the series forward a bit, the Umbrella Corporation are moving ahead with their evil plans, now they have virtual reality cities where our heroine needs to progress from, before she finally gets a crack at the top men.

I think I prefer zombie/war movies when they don't go overboard on the technical stuff, e.g. in the 3rd/4th instalment of this series, the movie was more of a road-movie, and the fights were more 'raw' and not littered with CGI.

However, the movie does merit watching especially if you're a fan of the series, although I do wonder where they can go for the next instalment. I hope it's a lot more original.

Good night, God Bless.

1.0 out of 5 stars Why remake something unless you are going to improve it?, 4 April 2013
This film is a reboot of the first spiderman movie, which was the first spiderman movie made with that Toby Whatsisname chap.

Two questions I have (which will probably remain unanswered, but that's something I will take on the chin);

1. Why make a reboot of a movie when the original is barely 10 years old?
2. If you do make a reboot, why not make it sufficiently different and refreshing, or make the effects even better in some way, the enemies (I nearly wrote 'enemas' there) more menacing and impressive?

The spiderman movies to date have followed a similar formula when it comes to the villain - he's usually someone who has tried an experiment which went wildly wrong, or he was the victim of some twisted occurence that turned him into some crazy creature (a bit like one of my exes but that's nothing for you lot to worry about).

The guy in this one is someone who wants to experiment with genetics/genomes (forgive me if I've used the wrong terms, I'm not the brightest but I have a wonderfully expressive sense of humour) in order to grow back one of his missing arms. His experiments are taken away from him and he continues with them anyway, turning himself into a giant lizard when he does try them.

He isn't an impressive villain/creature, because he's made up mostly of CGI effects, it would have been 100 times (or even 1000 times) more effective if they spent the money on creating a really convincing lizard-skin-like outfit for him, but that would have probably cost more money.

There's not much else different about the plot, although there's no Mary-Jane, just the daughter of the Police Commisioner or something.

The biggie for me with this movie, was that there was no owner of the Daily Planet! He was the funniest character in these movies, adding an element of humour and slapstick to them. He was missed.

A poor reboot. Maybe they should reboot it again?

1.0 out of 5 stars Is love really this awful?, 16 Mar. 2013
This review is from: Love Actually [DVD] [2003] (DVD)
This film is cheesy, in the extreme.

All of the little stories in the film are mostly predictable, and poorly written. Not that they're not funny from time to time. But just a bit corny.

Will the uptight prime minister (Huge Grant - spelling mistake added for 'comic' effect), and his timid yet obviously well up-for-it tea lady get in on? Of course they 88888 will!

Will I make it to the end of this movie without wanting to run outside my house and scream 'WHY DID PEOPLE PAY TO WATCH THIS!' at the nearest stranger? Probably not.

Don't watch it. Although it's been out for donkey's years so you probably all have.

1.0 out of 5 stars This was a failure, and rightly so...., 1 Mar. 2013

Loads of constant pro-Navy/war propoganda? - tick!

Stereotypical views of soldiers who are shown as drones with zero charisma? - tick!

Pretty rubbish pop star who gets her first starring role, and is.....pretty rubbish? - tick!

Viewing pretty women as objects there just to look hot and have no brains? - tick!

This is an awful film which only works if you turn the sound off so you don't the staggeringly poor actors, including Liam Neesom (who needs to stop doing action roles at his age and be a nice grandad or something) reciting cheesy lines.

It's hard to watch, although the effects are great.

It's made partly by Hasbro who were involved in making Transformers, so that's one reason why it's so awful.

Garbage, but that's insulting to garbage.

1.0 out of 5 stars Obvious and quite predictable, 1 Mar. 2013
I haven't watched all the seasons of this comedy, but have watched enough of it to make comment.

Charlie Sheen plays a character whom he eventually became in real life, i.e. a heavy drinking womaniser. Nothing wrong with that. However, this character is a staple in far too many American comedies, e.g. Friends, Rules of Engagement etc. It's easy to make sex/innuendo based puns around such a character, and they do become predictable.

The episodes are largely based around Charlie, his sex life and various relationships, his geeky brother, and even geekier and food guzzling nephew. Whatever the 'subject' in each episode, the story usually reverts in some way back to Charlie and some woman/women he's been having sex with, or left recently, or cheated on etc.

Charlie Sheen has great comic timing and I find him to be a really good comic actor. But this is lazy comedy stereotyping. They could have given him more character aspects, they hint at these now and then but these are never really explored. The writers just lazily get back to sex.

The gags got increasingly poor as the seasons went on, how many sex-based gags can you make? Also I'm sure lots of the laughter was canned, unless there are people who find casual sex gags staggeringly funny.

Overall, it's massively overated, but very popular in America. So there you go.

1.0 out of 5 stars Er, why are the aliens made of fur?, 27 Feb. 2013
Not a good movie. Set in a London housing estate, where some young 'thugs' (who turn out to be 'heroes', so don't despair) end up taking on an alien invasion.

The aliens start off looking reasonably ok, but then they just end up being really big fluffy things, that you don't get to see clearly (didn't watch it to the end so don't know if they became more menacing).

Also this film also tries to make some social commentary by showing how some 'muggers' - I'm using quotes because that's how the film portrays them initially, can have a heart. Now this is a serious issue and would have been much better justified in a more serious movie, which this certainly isn't, in fact it hardly really broaches the subject properly.

If it was a good action movie OR a decent social commentary, then it would have been worth watching. It's neither.

We should of course (or should we?) support British movies, but not when they are rubbish.

1.0 out of 5 stars Invisible aliens? Shiver!, 26 Feb. 2013
Er this is rubbish. The aliens are invisible, apart from little streams of light you see now and then. The acting is the most terrifying part of the film.

I have a ridiculous sense of humour by the way, which I why I was very amused by the dark, brooding music which ran through this film. I knew I would be more scared if I had to go to my kebab shop late at night.

Don't watch it, unless you are worryingly bored.
