5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect End To A Perfect Series, 26 Oct 2008
This review is from: Ocean's Thirteen [HD DVD] (HD DVD)
I hate the word critic-surely meaning to criticise. That in itself means that no film could receive a good write up.

Ill briefly review it, as a watcher of maybe, 1 film a week or less, I'm a cabbie and havent the time. I just have an xbox 360 and HD DVD player so I'm taking advantage of the fact that they are discontinued and collecting a lot of films on HD very cheap!

I think all the Oceans' have been great, I'd not seen one before 2 weeks ago. I put on Oceans 13 an hour before work and ended up being an hour late for work......I couldnt wait til the morning!

The planning of the heists is amazing, all 3 in the series are shot fast, slick (Clooney and Pitt making this extremely effective), and I fail to see how anybody could not find the 2nd or 3rd even better than the first, as long as you're not a critic!

Don't pull this film to pieces......enjoy it....its great!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Most Under Rated Series....Ever!, 17 Oct 2008
I completley agree with another have to be a little bit mad to actually enjoy Ally to the full.
Make no bones, this isn't no Friends, no Sex in The City, nowhere near a 'girly series'. This is an incredible and mindblowing, and possibly life-changing series that is so well written its almost impossible to comprehend the intelligence of the writer.
Ally will make you cry, male or female, because it gets through all your barriers and certain episodes just hit raw nerves that seem so well protected. The comedy is not canned laughter, its sublime, and was never really intended to be a 'laugh a minute series', its a lot more serious than that.
All of the characters are fantastic in their own right but Ally and John Cage steal the show with some dialogue, and closing arguments in court, that will leave you thinking about your life and where you are at for a very long time.
I watched Ally the first time round, maybe 9 years ago, and own all the box sets. Ive just started to watch them again, and ive just started to think again.....
Forget the Sopranos, this is the work of a genius.....

5.0 out of 5 stars Bargain Of The Century!, 27 Dec 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Ive had this game for a year, bought it second hand, the limited edition.

I'd go for that if you can get it, it contains a DVD (which ive never seen!) and the box and packaging will ensure you never want to sell it.

Recently (Dec 2007) I've really got into it and its FANTASTIC! The music is superb, the weapons amazing, and the controls are very easy to master.

The 2nd stage in the nightclub has to be heard and seen to be believed!

Im pretty sure that a piano version of the power of love by frankie goes to hollywood is used throughout the game, it sounds like it anyway, and greatly atmospheric.

The best thing about this game is that its available for LESS THAN A TENNER! Having completed it, I will never sell it as to me it will always be worth much much more than that. Forget the over-rated Bio-Shock and Halo 3, this one, for £7 or more, is a must.

By the way, have you ever kinda fancied a cyber girl??? This redhead is HOT!

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb!, 17 Oct 2007

Resident Evil 4 set the benchmark for games of these genre on the gamecube, it was simply superb, but I cant believe this one passed me by.

The settings are stunning, the storyline compelling but sometimes confusing. Basically, youre playing a film.

The deserted department store with mannequins that whisper to you when you walk past them and also some that come to life are amazing, so is the ambience with the dreary slow motion quiet music, its creepy.

The shut-down school has noises from the past of kids in the playground, its creepy.

This game will make you jump, especially if you have a few speakers behind you on 5.1 surround. Its superb. The enemies are evil looking, it scares you constantly, and my girlfriend watched me play it for a month (2 hours a day maximum!) and was totally engrossed.

When you reach the house, following the numbers to find a riddle from room to room is compelling, using an ultra violet scanner.

Considering this was a 1st release for the 360, its up there with the best of them. If I had a complaint, it would be that these type of games all have the same type of brickwork corridoor maze type passages which get a bit tedious if you become a bit lost.

Also, the new york underground network is amazing, and atmospheric.

You HAVE to have 1080 high definition and 5.1 surround for this game, it makes it so much better.

Its on the classics range now, and rightly so. A classic game. Buy it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Repetitive, Frustrating but Good!, 17 Oct 2007
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Ridge Racer 6 / Game (Video Game)
Hmmmm........a tough one!
Anyone with an xbox 360 without full high definition is not really in a position to judge the speed or quality of graphics of any game as it makes such a difference.

Ridge Racer is fantastically fast, visually brilliant and has a real feel for speed when you play it.

The problem is, after a few hours every day for about a week, the novelty of the speed and graphics wears off and you find yourself using the same curcuits in forward and reverse, and the game becomes repetitive once you have won about 100 races. Basically by this time you have seen everything there is to see.

The triple nitrous is always fun, as is the drifting, but it has the typical ridge racer annoyance of getting to a race, or a part of the game where, no matter what you do, you just cannot progress unless you are a master of the game. It will frustrate you, and you will probably sell the game rather than it gather cobwebs and lose value.

If you have kids and can get it for £15 or thereabouts, its a must (the bigger the tv the better!)

I loved it when i first got it, it blew me away, but just like gotham 3, once youve seen the circuits and worked out youre just using the same tracks or variants of them, you will not return to play.

I just wished formula 1 was not exclusive to the ps3.

Another point which is interesting......if you have the psp version then the speed and quality of ridge racer isnt all that better on the 360. Strange!

4.0 out of 5 stars PSP At Its Super Smooth Best!, 8 April 2007
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Ok, here's 5 points for you:

1: The smoothness of outrun is incredible and the speed and graphics are breathtaking and its a joy to play.

2:......for about 1 hour.

3: The game is purely arcade and very shallow.

4: It becomes virtualy impossible at the latter stages.

5: If formula 1 was as fast and smooth as Outrun then it would never be beaten for a driving game on the psp.

I would recommend that you pick up a copy 2nd hand, it shows up the fact that psp driving games can be smooth and fast but most of the programmers just cant be bothered.

1.0 out of 5 stars Games Based On Films Are Normally Poor, 8 April 2007
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Family Guy (PSP) (Video Game)
I bought family guy as my 2nd game for the psp and I sold it within a month.

At first I thought it had the makings of a simple but fun game, but its so very tricky when the '3-d' effect doesnt work and you fall off a shelf that you should be standing on and at other times youre 'floating' in mid air as the game thinks youre on a shelf when youre not.

The graphics are twitchy and flickery, and gameplay repetitive.

Probably the worst game ive played on the psp.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Under-rated Game!, 8 April 2007
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Pac-Man World 3 (PSP) (Video Game)
Im not gonna rant on about pacman world 3. It was the 2nd game I bought for my psp back in August 2006 and played it three times, got frustrated and then stored it before giving it a proper chance a few months ago.

The graphics are excellent, the levels are challenging and addictive, but its one of those games where you get to a point, do it about 100 times, fail 100 times and rip the disc out before you punch someone or something!

i eventually sold it, as i obtained the cheat code to all levels and couldnt be bothered to complete the last level just to see what was at the end, but I would recommend buying this game 2nd hand and if you dont like it then pass it on.

its strange that most of the better games for the psp like pacman and daxter and formula 1 all came out quite early in the consoles life, but they seem to have tapped the ultimate potential of the machine and I think we will need a psp 2 soon as the restrictions of the console (as wonderful as it is) are starting to show up in most new games.

3.0 out of 5 stars Poor Mans Vice City, 8 April 2007
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Gangs Of London (PSP) (Video Game)
Its obvious that gangs Of London have tried to copy the Grand Theft Auto theme of dragging people out of cars etc but this game seems to have so many flaws.

When I first bought it I found it very addictive but thats not the problem. The problem is that you get bored with it very quickly and rather persevere to complete the missions you would rather just store the game away and probably never play it again.

I think that corners were cut financially by using cartoon-style stills with audio instead of movie cut-scenes and the game probably doesnt even use up 25% of the psp's capabilities.

I think that Gangs is exclusive to the psp console which is better than people keep making poor and limited versions of ps2 games which dont cross over well onto the psp, but they need to be better than this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Hard But Excellent!, 8 April 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Ive had toca 2 for about 9 months, 88% complete, and just cannot get any further!

The game follows a storyline that has a Scottish speaking talent scout giving you trials in an Aston Martin. You have to average 3rd place or better over 3 different races to catch his eye. After succeeding in that, you are then put into a formula ford car which seems at first completely undriveable and very frustrating but then you learn that each type of car you are required to drive handles realistically and therefore takes some time to get right.

The mini-movie cut scenes that 'document' your progression are superb graphically (you only have to look in the background on most of them to see the detail theyve gone to), and they prove a great reward for finishing each series in a good position. I think I have seen about 21 movie clips so far.

Ive rallied, driven trucks, jaguars, classics, koenigs, porsches, mustangs, you name it, you drive it as you progress!

This game is an absolute must if you love technical driving games like formula 1, but an arcade type 'put in and play' person wouldnt last 5 minutes with this one.

This is in my psp top3, easily.
