5.0 out of 5 stars Not bad at all for such a cheap disposable camera, 3 Jan 2011
I bought several of these for beach days, boat trips etc where I didn't want to take my easily damaged 'proper' camera and have been pleasantly surprised by the results. The flash is a nice added bonus.
The plus side is that although film and analogue cameras are less used today, there are a wide range of places that will develop these at acceptable prices, eg chemists such as boots, or high street photography shops.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good starting point, 3 Jan 2011
I bought this book to teach myself, as I play the saxophone and already have knowledge of how to read music/woodwind instruments.
However, this is also an excellent tutor for those with no prior musical knowledge. Although perhaps focused on the younger player, the layout of the book appeals to all. Each new note is explained with a diagram and a fingering chart, and the method of reading music is taught as you go. There is also a good mix of well known traditional tunes and more modern compositions.
All in all, it has been a pleasure to learn the clarinet with this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant entry level dslr, 3 Jan 2011
Started using this camera about a month ago, and can honestly say it is one of the best purchases I have ever made!
As the previous review states, most of the problems others have complained of can be easily resolved just by reading the manual - the paper copy tells you the basics and is greatly informative when it comes to using the different settings etc. It also comes with a more thorough manual on CD. As for the camera not being sturdy solid plastic, unfortunately this is the case with all up to date dslrs. The benefits are that they are light - going back to using my old film slr makes it feel like a brick in my hands - and if you look after it properly anyway, it certainly won't 'fall apart in your hands' as one review suggested.

As well as fully manual settings, the camera features several preset modes for different scenarios eg landscape, portrait, close up etc. Although you don't get full control with these, they are incredibly useful for situations when you simply don't have time to set aperture, shutter speed etc. There is also a 'guide' mode which is a useful reference for beginners wanting to capture certain scenes, eg flowing waterfalls or sports shots. The built in flash is as good as built in flashes go, with an adapter for another if necessary. It has other standard features such as 'quiet mode', multiple shots, self timer etc etc.

The kit lens is adequate - if I had one complaint it would probably that it is somewhat limited in what it can do - for example, you might want to later update with a bigger zoom lens, or if you wanted to do sports shots or fast moving action, a lens capable of wider apertures might be worth considering, as although it is possible to raise the iso to up to 1600, the photos would be of a better quality if a different lens is used. However, the vibration reduction is a godsend, and the autofocus a treat, and in terms of everyday photography it certainly steps further than the mark. Anyway, part of the fun of slr photography is being able to interchange lenses, and most kit lenses won't beat this one.

Overall, I thoroughly recommend this either as a first slr or an update of an older model. I have had a lot of fun with it, and as an entry level camera it has a terrific amount of scope. You won't find many for this price that meet this mark.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, 1 Sep 2009
I bought this a couple of weeks ago to give me time to practice recipes for uni, and it's just fantastic! The meals are not only quick and easy to cook (in fact, I needn't have bothered practicing!) but are also tasty, healthy and filling. There are colour photos of every recipe, and extra advice such as how long you can keep certain foodstuffs, sample shopping lists and meal plans etc. It sticks to simple ingredients unlike may vegetarian cook books which send you running to the nearest specialist food shop and also sticks to the minimal amount so that all recipes are realistic to cook on a student budget. I am now truly looking forward to cooking from this book and recommend it thoroughly (particularly the corn soup as it's delicious!)
