Exciting, funny, touching and moving at an incredible pace. Add in the fact that As often happens Pratchett injects social commentary on our own world through his books and you have have one of the best.

Me Ritings: The Rather Luffly Journal of David's Best Mate
Me Ritings: The Rather Luffly Journal of David's Best Mate

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Rather Wonderful, 8 Feb 2014
The book and it's follow up Moosins of a Tired Greyhound is the life of David's Best Mate, a retired racing greyhound as seen through the eyes of his hooman owner and companion Becky Carr.

David's "hadventures" started on Facebook where he quickly gained a legion of fans anxious to hear of his poo noos, battles with the terrifying ginga ninja cat - he always lost, his journeys with his chums send of course his Mum who he loved.

His letters to the Queen and his campaign to become "Prime Mincer" are highlights.

Becky's sure touch and warm humour were rewarded by the ultimate accolade, an army of imitators, a spin through Facebook gives you many, but none match the warmth and humour of David's Best Mate. David's reaction to these imitators was refreshing, there was never any hint of a dog in a manger, simply the mad world of the retired greyhound got more populated with retired greyhounds, puzzling in a good natured way about the vagaries of everyday life, everyone though revolved around David, he was the original and he was the best.

Hundreds waited with baited breath each day on Fb for his words, and they were rarely disappointed, through Becky David's words brightened the hearts of even the most jaded of souls. Here in this book you find some of funniest.

Sad to say, as is the way of things, David's voice is no longer and the out pouring of sadness following his peaceful death from old age is the most eloquent review that anyone could have.

By buying this book and it's companion you will be supporting the rehoming of retired greyhounds. You never know you may find yourself with your very own houndie and one day you may look into your companions eyes and think to yourself, I wonder what you are thinking?

Becky did and something really rather wonderful happened.

Yes they look natty, look ideal for protecting your man tackle from branch scrape, but they work too well.

The gusset fits over your meat and two veg tighter than a colony of pythons around a pot bellied pig.

At one stage I coughed to clear the lump from my throat only to find a testes shooting through the treetops and being eaten by a passing seagull.

I suggest the manufacturers change their advertising and rebrand as a flying helmet, a purpose for which I found it eminently suitable

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite hitting the spot., 29 Oct 2010
The thing with 10cc is that they made great singles and great albums. So a greatest hits should work. Strangely it didn't really. The tracks didn't really flow together and it all seemed a bit disjointed to be honest. 10cc albums always seemed so well crafted and thought through. Each track is in the right place on the individual album. Whilst each track was different in feeling, mood and musicality, they somehow blended together to make a single musical story. While the tracks are the same here, it just doesn't take you on the same journey, there is no feeling of being carried along. 5 star music, 1 star experience, makes it a 3 star album. Buy the individual albums instead.

4.0 out of 5 stars Something for everyone, 29 Oct 2010
10cc albums give something for everyone. Bittersweet lyrics going with stunning arrangements to make wonderful love songs. Witty lyrics that make you smile and feel clever as you got the joke. Musicianship you can listen to and enjoy. It isn't spontaneous it is meticulously planned music, but it manages to hit all the right spots. Like all great music you can listen to it and hear different things eCh time. Original Soundtrack and How Dare You are their two greatest achievements. Perhaps Original Soundtrack just shades it, but next week I might change my mind. Now if they were a double album........

5.0 out of 5 stars No collection complete without this album, 29 Oct 2010

The best album ever? Not for me, no. A few tracks blend into each other, leaving me wondering what track I was listening to.
However some truly great moments and tracks that build in grandeur, filled with emotion. The music suiting his voice and the lyrics suiting the sound. Worth 5 stars

2.0 out of 5 stars Not so good, 19 Oct 2007
After 4 back ups it gave up the ghost making a soft clicking noise, refusing to identify files and halting back up process. Prior to this I found the bundled back up software not particularly helpful as the file extensions it supported did not show some of the newer audio file versions, purely giving a generic list which effectively meant the only thing it picked up was excel and word together with pictures. 2* given 'cos I awarded half a star for every time it worked! When it was working the speed of backing up meant I needed a shave by the time it finished - this will teach me for being cheap!

The day after I saw Curtis Stigers last summer, I went straight out and bought this CD. His live performance had been warm, witty and perfect for cuddling up to the one you love, the album is no different.

An ecletic collection of covers, all given their own twist, all saying something new (especially in the case of "Everybody Cryin' Mercy), together with a smattering of his own, beautifully romantic work. Had I seen Tom Waites "In Between Love" on the cd track listing before I heard him sing it live I would have had second thoughts - no one should cover this, it's sacrilegious! - but I heard Stigers sing it live first and found myself, feeling guilty, but loving it.

Tri-Fi, his band, play with great feeling and a very sure touch (well worth checking their own work out too).

This works on 2 levels - the perfect accompaniment for a candlelight dinner, and as something to sit alone with and listen more carefully. Either way, you will finish with a smile on your face.
