Scholl Velvet Smooth Pedicure Intense Foot Serum 30 ml
Scholl Velvet Smooth Pedicure Intense Foot Serum 30 ml

4.0 out of 5 stars Seems a promising product, 14 April 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
My wife suffers from callouses and very dry skin. Following a foot soak she used a callous knife and applied the serum. Her skin looks and feels smoother, and she will be able to judge after a week or so how effective it is. It certainly seems a promising product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Effective, but lacks a cap to measure the dose, 2 April 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
My wife used this, and continues to do so, and finds it as good as other brands she has used. However, she makes the adverse comment that, while a 15ml dose is to be used in water, it would be very helpful to have a measuring cap to ensure this correct amount is used.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read, but there is little for insomniacs, 7 Mar 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
As an insomniac I am naturally interested in books about sleep. This one is not primarily for insomniacs; there is barely a mention of the pros and cons of sleeping tablets for example, and it seems to assume that anyone can take a nap at will (something which the author strongly recommends daily, contrary to what many other experts say). It is more about the science of sleep, with long sections about the nature of dreams and how we can interpret and even direct them. Lots of surveys and anecdotes are described, including some amusing and tragic ones about sleepwalkers. The book is written in a somewhat jokey way at times, but there is no index, which I always feel is a failing in a non-fiction book. But for those interested in the science of sleep and dreams, it is a good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars The zenith of Bresson's career, 5 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I reviewed the VHS version of this some years ago, and having acquired the recent DVD I have no reason to revise my enthusiasm. It is one of those films where, however often you see it, new depths reveal themselves. Bresson has brilliantly interwoven various sub-plots, including murder and financial skullduggery, which you barely notice first time round in this birth-to-death story of a donkey. All the characters seem to be victims of destiny, acted upon rather than acting, with the sole exception of the evil Gerard, who seems able to do what he wants. This pessimistic view of human nature, which becomes more evident in Bresson's later films, is observed throughout by Balthazar, clearly a Christ-figure who seems to understand everything while remaining silent. My one complaint is the lack of extras, unlike the Criterion edition which apparently includes a long French TV discussion of the film.
This film comes in the middle, and many would say at the zenith, of Bresson's career.

5.0 out of 5 stars A filling dish for a cold morning, 27 Jan 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
A very nice maple-pecan flavoured porridge, easy to make (2 minutes in the microwave with milk), which can be mixed with, say, grapes and yoghurt to produce a filling dish for a cold morning. The only tiny niggle is that the paper sachet easily tears when opening, rendering it impossible to measure the milk by means of the sachet. Easy to measure 150ml in a jug, however.

5.0 out of 5 stars A tasty porridge,,easy to make, 26 Jan 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
A very tasty, easy to make, liquidy porridge, containing two "superfood" fruits (in small quantities), to which I like to add a few grapes and some yoghurt. Delicious!

Theology: A Very Short Introduction (Very Short Introductions)
Theology: A Very Short Introduction (Very Short Introductions)
by David Ford

5.0 out of 5 stars A dense and worthy approach to theological study, 7 Jan 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I expected this book, which was first published in 1999, to be a survey of various theologies and theologians down the centuries, as the author has used that approach in another publication. It actually turned out to be a fairly dense guide to approaching the subject of theology, partly by, in effect, setting out lists of questions we should be asking ourselves if we wish to study the subject. Mentions of actual theologians are few and far between, with the occasional reference to a Barth or a Rahner to illustrate a point. The concentration is on Christian theology, and the author is very definite that, in that context, it is the Trinitarian God we are talking about. He deals with such topics as the concept of God itself, ethics, the problem of evil, salvation, and the study of religious texts. In connection with texts, specifically the Bible though it would apply to other texts also, he is insistent that, for serious study, it is highly advisable to have a working knowledge of the original languages. Another thing he emphasises is that we should not do theology alone, we should do it as part of a community, and he convincingly sets out the reasons for these views. The final chapter is called Theology for the Third Millennium, and in this connection I would have liked to see some reference to the topic of the impact on theology of possible alien life in the universe, something on which the Vatican astronomer has written.
Altogether, a worthy addition, if only an updated reprint, to the OUP's excellent "very short introduction" series.

Child's Pose [DVD]
Child's Pose [DVD]
Dvd ~ Luminita Gheorghiu
Price: 13.44

5.0 out of 5 stars An acting masterclass in fine Romanian drama, 31 Dec 2013
This review is from: Child's Pose [DVD] (DVD)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is right up to the standard of the 3 other Romanian films I have seen in recent years. It is dominated by an acting masterclass by Luminita Gheorghiu as the well-to-do 60-ish woman whose life is turned upside-down when her son is involved in a fatal car accident. The long, largely uncut, scenes, particularly that in the victim's home near the end, are a real test of fine acting, and Gheorghiu, playing a very different role from her put-upon paramedic in the black comedy The Death of Mr. Lazarescu several years ago, is utterly convincing. The director Calin Peter Netzer adopts a rather in-your-face handheld style of camerawork which can be irritating, but probably suits this near-realtime family drama. Highly recommended, but not for light entertainment.

4.0 out of 5 stars A little bland, but useful for a lunchbox, 22 Dec 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
These 5 bars are useful for lunchboxes,,as is stated on the outside, but i found them a little bland. They are also a bit sticky, like toffee (though only a bit). I much prefer a good bowl of breakfast cereal, perhaps with the same ingredients. But I'll give it 4 stars (just).
