"Bloody Pommies" is written from the heart, 14 July 2009
This book is written from the heart by the author, Dorothy Dewing, who went to live in Austalia with her mother in the 1950s under the £10 scheme. I had no idea until I read it what a struggle the English families went through, trying to make a new life out there. The Aussies certainly didn't make life easy for them. A very good read, and a credit to Dorothy and her mother that they survived the hardships. Dorothy was able to bring us up to date with what happened to her family afterwards and it is always satisfying to have a happy outcome.
Although it is a personal story, it also tells the history of one family during the years after the 2nd World War and the problems they faced.
