5.0 out of 5 stars Good action cam., 10 Jan. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is my initial impression as I've only just received it. It takes really good videos. The angle of view is very wide (16mm in 35mm format) so you're getting a fish eye effect on upright at the edges.
The instruction manual is very poorly written which is a disappointment from a major brand, but it's quite intuitive and mainly self explanatory. It doesn't mention key information like the maximum size of micro SD card and it says that recording is limited to 25 minutes (but doesn't say if this is extended with a larger memory card. I've also had some problems linking the camera to a tablet via wi fi.
I bought this instead of the ubiquitous Go Pro for a number of reasons. Pentax / Ricoh have a great history in the optics field, the camera is very well made and the colour screen on the top is very useful. It can be used as a camera, has time lapse and motion sensor modes as well as a loop mode for recording whilst driving. It doesn't have the feature where it stops recording to save the clip if if receives a heavy jolt (as in a car collision), but it's an action cam not a car cam, so it's unreasonable to expect that feature.
It comes with a 2 pin plug and in camera battery charging is the only option as it comes without a charger (which is available separately).

Le Creuset Cast Iron Wok with Glass Lid, 36 cm, Cerise
Le Creuset Cast Iron Wok with Glass Lid, 36 cm, Cerise

3.0 out of 5 stars It's a monster, 10 Jan. 2016
This wok is so heavy. If you're looking for a typical thin wok that heats easily for quick cooking forget it. It takes ages to heat up, and the non stick isn't the best. I had to replace mine as a handle snapped off it (it was replaced under their lifetime warranty).
Most of the cooking equipment I've got is Le Creuset and I'd give it all 5 stars. This is just too big, and heavy with a poor non stick surface.
That said, when it's hot enough it does a good job.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great series but awful ending, 12 Dec. 2015
Loved the series. It was absolutely engrossing. So why one star? A really poor ending. Wasted hours watching this only to be really disapointed. A real let down ending.

Up Front...(Autobiography)
Up Front...(Autobiography)
by Victor Spinetti
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars Very very unusual, 2 Dec. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I'm from the same town as the author, and it's great to read about a valleys town being remembered with such fondness. My father and aunt knew him well. My aunt introduced him to acting and even gets a mention in the book, so I was really predisposed to like this.
Where it loses a star for me is the writing style which I found really bizarre. Mr Spinetti was such a humorous raconteur which makes the somewhat disjointed writing style quite unusual. Don't know if this is down to the collaboration with Peter Rankin, how much of the text is Spinetti's and how much Rankin's? Again, it seems unusual for such an eloquent man to need assistance in writing a book.
All said, great memories of growing up in the Valleys and wonderful stories of such a heady era.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dire, 15 Nov. 2015
Just upgraded partner's machine, resulting in the loss of all her data. Three hours on the phone to the Philippines with the worst telephony imaginable has sorted out some of the problems. The e mail doesn't work now and they wanted to charge to rectify the problem.
By comparison on my Chromebook, upgrades are seamless. I don't understand why anyone would buy a Windows machine any more unless specific Windows software is required.
Without any doubt I've just experienced the worst customer service imaginable.
Whatever version of Windows your running, ask yourself do you really need to upgrade, as most features appear on older versions. If not, save your money and your sanity and keep your existing version.

Freebird - the Movie: Live at Knebworth 1976
Freebird - the Movie: Live at Knebworth 1976

5.0 out of 5 stars I was there., 6 Nov. 2015
I was there. The stage had been set up as a giant pair of lips with a tongue coming through it, to represent Jagger's lips and the Stones logo. There was a great line up, but every time any of the bands started moving down the tongue the crown all boo'd as this was to be kept for Jagger to strut his stuff.
Fortunately for us Lynyrd Skynyrd hadn't read the script. They lined up and marched down the stage in unison, Gibson's letting rip. The crowd loved it.
The Stones were absolutely brilliant, Lynyrd Skynyrd were better. Don't get to say that often about a support band! Every song was superb. A must buy performance of a truly great band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes great chips, but..., 4 Oct. 2015
This machine makes the best chips, but the build quality is awful. We've gone through 3 machines in 6 years and it's never used more than twice a week. So keep your receipt and consider buying an extended warranty as it's likely you'll need to replace it. Just ordered a Philips Airfry as a replacement. Never had any real faith in Philips products, but it comes with a two year guarantee, so we'll give it a go.

2.0 out of 5 stars Junk, 12 Sept. 2015
I was looking for a pair on on ear phones and opted for the award winning AKG's. I didn't find them that comfortable so I bought a pair of Beats..

Thirteen months later they are broken having been well looked after. I found a You Tube video showing how to repair the fault. I was born in the 1950's. The UK had a strong manufacturing base and the really cheap and nasty stuff made in those days always carried the label "Made in Hong Kong". When I dismantled the headphones I was really appalled by the poor quality of the materials and workmanship. As bad as anything I've ever seen. They spend more on the box than they have on the wiring which isn't satisfactory. The main cable is quite chunky and a replacement is £30, it all implies quality, but it's smoke a mirrors. As bad as anything that used to say "made in Hong Kong."

Comfort is fantastic and the sound quality good, so it a shame about the quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't fault it, 4 Jun. 2015
Fantastic bit of kit. I'm writing this review on a Samsung ATIV laptop which is also a decent machine. However it has the misfortune to run Windows 8.1. There is an issue with updating the screen brightness on Samsung laptops with the 8.1 upgrade, so have to keep going into the display monitor settings and selecting a different driver. This is time consuming and frustrating. It's typical of Microsoft.
Compare this with the Chromebook. Open the lid and it's straight onto the internet. There's no delay it's instantaneous. It was charged up yesterday morning, used throughout the day and in idle mode all night. There is 77% battery charge remaining.
The Google OS is querky (but there again so is every other OS). It's basically a thin client with a small amount of internal memory as it's expected that all tasks will be done on line. As most people are online most of the time this is fine. If you're not going to be this is not the operating system for you.
Google Docs works fine. It doesn't have the myriad options that Microsoft Office has, but who ever needs the thousands of options. It's got choice of font, bold and underline fonts etc which is all I've ever used.
Google Drive is fantastic. Stores everything to the cloud. I've got cloud storage with my internet provider and from several hardware providers. Drive is the easiest to use and if you need more memory it's the cheapest as well.
I recently paid £129 for my machine. I love Apple products, but their 11 inch screen machine was over £700 (although with significantly more memory and a far more sophisticated OS, so I'm not really comparing like with like). The build quality of the Acer is excellent and you've got to ask how do they do it for the money (it's advertised on Google's Chromebook site for £200). The price is what you'd expect to pay for an extended warranty with other manufacturers.
The screen isn't the greatest, but it's still pretty good as is the sound. I find the virtual keypads on tablets frustrating to use sometimes so prefer a real keyboard which the Acer has.
The ASUS 7 inch tablet I've just bought is sitting in my case redundant and my Windows machine has little use now. I've never used any computer so much. It's about the size of an A4 pad, it's light and easy to carry around with the benefit of a decent screen and keyboard.
All my Google app's including diary and address are automatically synced across the Google & Android platforms which is good.
