Unfortunately the author Geoff Dixon, seems to be barely literate; Never have I encountered a book with such poorly constructed sentences, and punctuation. It leaves the reader frequently floundering as to the meaning of the text.
There are numerous books on basic English grammar which I would suggest to Geoff he reads prior to embarking on another literary project.
(A note to Geoff; if you have had this text proof read I would demand your money back!)
Quite apart from the appalling grammar, the contents lack clarity with little evidence of rigorous research into the local history of the town. Publishing this book has done a disservice to the town of Barnard Castle which, I'm sure, has a rich and fascinating history.

A fascinating book underpinned by thorough research. Ultimately one marvels how such an alcohol befuddled F Scott Fitzgerald could, nevertheless, produce such a well crafted novel.

4.0 out of 5 stars A pleasant holiday read, 31 July 2013

Having seen the film I was inspired to read the novel, and yes, it did go further in explaining the motivation of the characters.
There were some glaring plot discrepancies, however, for example what happened to Florence's sister who chaperoned her to Lamorna then proceeded to disappear into thin air. All in all a pleasant holiday read.

Brilliant, you'll feel drained after reading this novel. PB explores the psychological effects of conflict so missing from the press with their emphasis on the cult of heroes. A truly moving memorial to the men and women who endured the obscenity that was erroneously labelled 'The Great War'.

A wonderful read. However, if you're looking for a straightforward, biography of Lawrence this perhaps is not the book for you. The text is a compilation of indiosyncratic and hilarious insights into one man's procrastination. A must for anyone who has ever attempted to avoid settling down to a task. Don't be fooled however into labelling this text 'comic', as it contains a host of erudite references and some very insightful comments about the great, albeit flawed, DHL himself.

Initially rather daunted as the product had been super compressed for transit and it resembled nothing more than a concrete block when first opened. However, in no time at all, the air had done its magic and all that is now requirewd is a 'plump-up' each morning.
Personally I find them very comfortable - more so than either traditional pillows or the orthopeadic shaped variety. With these sweet dreams are practically guaranteed and you will be assured of a good night!
