A moving read about an ordinary woman who was extraordinarily brave and wanted to 'do her bit' in the war. I felt sad for her child who would never know her father and mother.
It is obviously difficult to write a book of this as nature without introducing what may have happened on occasions but what we do know is that she gave her life while suffering greatly.

A very moving account of one man's struggle whilst retaining his humanity in order to survive.I wasn't' shocked just saddened how once again the human race, can be so cruel.

From a female perspective this is quite an uncomfortable book to read which I presume is part of the book's worthiness.Seaton is an unlikable character whose feckless behaviour can be seen in today's society .

Having seen the film quite a few years ago it was a pleasure to read the novel. I was drawn to the bluntness of the writing and the expectations of that time. I am now encouraged to read other well known novels from that era.

As an adult reading this book for the first time it is rather predictable however from the perspective of it being a children's book it is engaging.

Too often children are afraid of dogs due to the reaction of the parent. On this occasion the interweaving of the story of humans and a dog is touching which can only be beneficial to all children reading the book. Long live the power of our four legged friends!

It could be perceived as being a story of rescuing a common woman from her sorry life however in its simply written way it is basically one of command and control.

A good yet simple example of class snobbery which still exists albeit in a different form today.l loved the film with Kenneth Moore. It would be good for school children to study. There"s more to Barrie than just Peter Pan.

This is a book I often return to . It is so moving and emotionally draining to read yet still calls to me.
