Does Boro even deserve a quality book about his work? One hasn't appeared. This is a lazy rehash which adds nothing to the actual films, many of which are overrated.

Upshot: watch his better films. You can figure out what they are on a thing called the internet. There is no need to read poorly researched books about him.

And, to be honest, none of his films comes anywhere near a masterpiece. A great middlebrow European director with some interesting stylistic approaches. That's all.

Walerian Borowczyk: Cinema of Erotic Dreams
Walerian Borowczyk: Cinema of Erotic Dreams
by Jeremy Robinson
Edition: Paperback
Price: £14.99

4.0 out of 5 stars This book is a good introduction to (most of) his films, 10 April 2015
Borowczyk straddles the line between eurotrash auteurs (Franco, Naschy, Rollin, etc.) and art house (Pasolini and Fellini in particular). In my opinion he never made a "masterpiece", put he pursued a vision that can only be admired, as he certainly had the talent to make more "commercial" films. This book is a good introduction to (most of) his films. It DOES tell you what is unique about his cinematography. It does analyze the unique female-male relationships which are Boro's hallmark. It does a good job of distinguishing the good from the bad. Yes, it uses words like "sucked". But this filmmaker would be ill-served by a dry academic tone. Extremely readable and recommended.

BRILLIANT!! With so many new wave/post-punk groups reforming (or, worse, never going away), I approached this with some skepticism. But the members of The Pop Group have always had tremendous integrity and this album is absolutely awesome. Totally a continuation of their previous (now ancient) albums, but, dare I say it, with better production and sound quality. Still rough, shouty and loud--they have definitely NOT mellowed with age. Congratulations!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good collection; absurd packaging, 4 Aug. 2013

Sorry, it's hard to recommend this. It's all good, but low on rarities.

As others have said, the packaging is bad. In my view the worst I have ever seen.

Cherry Red again disappoints. It's time for them to hire a professional who understands how CDs should be mastered and packaged.

1.0 out of 5 stars UNLISTENABLE, 30 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Do NOT buy this. Do NOT support horrible brickwalled remasters. A straight reissue of the OOP 1992 set at a bargain price would have been great. Instead, they've ruined these classic albums with tinny remasters which are painful to listen to.

The 2001 remasters must have have been bad if they sounded like this "new" release and I don't care if they were well-reviewed. "Brickwalling" was in vogue for awhile, but is finally starting to see a backlash. People (like me) who actually have the awesome '92 box set are obviously in the best position to determine which sounds better. I bought this for the bonus disc and the hope of a new quality remaster. The remaster is a disaster.

Absurdly unlistenable. Harsh, painful, tinny. Spandau's best album ruined. Whoever "remastered" this should be banned from the industry.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible sound quality, 7 May 2009

I am not picky about CD mastering, but this is unlistenable. The sound is muddy with a noticeable hum in parts. Many people criticize Cherry Red's CD mastering. I generally think it is fine, but this is definitely an exception.
