3.0 out of 5 stars yoga for impatient people, 23 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Jillian Michaels is famous for helping people lose weight, NOT gaining inner peace. This is really an aerobics workout with some yoga postures thrown in. If you are looking for a yoga workout to help you relax, this is NOT the dvd for you.

Yoga practice requires a lot of kneeling. This extra thick yoga mat gives more cushioning for those with painful knees

Out of the Ashes: Britain after the riots
Out of the Ashes: Britain after the riots
by David Lammy

3.0 out of 5 stars nice words - how about some action?, 20 Feb 2012
I for one raised an eyebrow when I discovered that Tottenham's MP David Lammy had released a book about August's riots, only a couple of months after they had happened. Some dismissed it as `shameless opportunism'.
In truth, like Barack Obama's `The Audacity Of Hope', Lammy's `After the Riots' is more part autobiography, part personal political manifesto and explanation of our broken society rather than simply an explanation of the urban uprisings, though there is clearly much overlap.
In the immediate aftermath of the riots I was disappointed with his response in the media, condemning the violence like all the other MPs, and blaming the violence on non-Tottenham residents, so in this book it is good to hear his views argued fully and cogently, rather than the soundbites of PMQ's and Sky News that we usually hear from him.
He gives his opinions on reform of the tax system, immigration policy, the judicial system, and prison sentencing amongst other topics, and with so many good ideas I wonder why his own party leaders are not listening to him.
Lammy comes across well intentioned and full of good ideas in the book, with a good understanding of the problems of Britain's struggling masses, both white and Black. He highlights the policy mistakes of both the Conservatives and his own Labour party, which leads me to wonder why if successive governments (including his own) have been so unwilling or unable to improve the lives of his constituents, he is still happy to be part of a system that patently isn't working.

Plug Your Book: Online Book Marketing for Authors, Book Publicity through Social Networking
by Steve Weber
Edition: Paperback
Price: £10.77

3.0 out of 5 stars needs an update, 18 Jan 2012
One of the most important things you need to know about this book is that it was published in 2007. And in the fast moving world of book publishing and on-line marketing 4 years is a long time. Much of it is still relevant and useful, but much of it also feels out of date. For instance the chapter on Social Networking focuses mainly on MySpace rather than Facebook! And I'm pretty sure the stuff on self publishing on Amazon is out of date as well. If Steve Weber wants this otherwise excellent book to remain relevant, he needs to do another edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars the future of publishing, 4 Dec 2011
As an aspiring author who is struggling to find a publisher, i was advised by a friend to consider self publishing. The 'vanity publishers' out there are little more than sharks, but this book points to a new third way. It doesn't tell you all you need to know about self publishing, but its a good start and puts you on the right track.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aretha reveals the roots of soul music, 27 Aug 2011
It is well known that Aretha Franklin is the Queen of Soul. It is also well known that many soul singers got their early musical education in the church. This is album in one stroke demonstrates why both of these cliches are fact. I have many soul ablums in my collection; I have fewer gospel albums, but this album is essential for fans of either genre.

Beyond Anger: A Guide for Men - How to Free Yourself from the Grip of Anger and Get More Out of Life

3.0 out of 5 stars i've read it .and I'm still angry, 25 Dec 2010
thomas harbin has done a thorough job of examining the genesis of, evolution of, and methods of controlling anger in men. Unfortunately he presupposses that in every case the root cause is a feeling of inferiority, and lack of confidence in social situations. I bought this book because I have a quick temper, but i do not have a sense of inferiority, nor am i socially awkward. Thus unfortunately, though I admit i have a problem with anger, this book was of no help to me.

Who Are We - And Should It Matter in the 21st Century?
Who Are We - And Should It Matter in the 21st Century?

4.0 out of 5 stars A timely book in this post racial age, 22 Sep 2010
I bought this book because I am particularly interested in Black identity issues in the light of the recent high profile success of men of mixed parentage such as Tiger Woods, and Barack Obama, who may or may not classify themselves as Black.
As I had hoped Younge tackles this topic head on in Chapter 3 - 'The Chronicles of Cablinasia'. But what I didn't expect was that he gave the same insightful and detailed examination of the racial identity of The Jews and The Irish, as well as taking in gender identity, European identity and the struggles of Muslims post 9-11. Awesome in its breadth and depth, a real accomplishment, and very timely.
