I am so grateful for this book as it covers in a simple way most of the key issues I consider important in being the CEO of My Own Life. These are the simple daily things that make a huge difference that demonstrate that we are walking the talk with doing what we can do to live healthy lives and protect our environment. I am a Certified Team Leader for Dr Ray Strand's Healthy for Life programme as outlined in Healthy for Life: Developing Healthy Lifestyles That Have a Side Effect of Permanent Fat Loss
and this covers nutriton, nutritional supplements, water and exercise - the Wentz book gives a more holistic coverage for your home.
The book covers the environment in which you live in - your home, office and your car because you spend time there too - and spells out the dangers of household items that may be less obvious than food, water and exercise like chemicals, preservatives, emf and electronics, air and even the clothes that we wear. These are big topics yet the book is simply written from the point of view of the author Dave Wentz as a dad looking out for his his newborn son. Grandfather Myron Wentz gives his scientific viewpoint in separate parts in each chapter if you want a more technical explanation.
The information is presented room by room in the house starting in the bedroom and ending up in the garden. There is a scoring system which helps to identify good and bad points and areas for improvement. After some time working from home I have now given each room an audit, restocked with healthy natural alternatives, thrown out the junk and given the house a good spring clean from top to bottom. The recycling people and charity shops are delighted and we feel better for no clutter. Thats got to be a good step in these austere times - we're now living more with less if that makes sense.
I have surprised myself by taking positive steps regarding eco and health that I had wanted to do and not had the motivation to do til now - for instance I have cleaned out the freezer and have a storage system so we know whats in there which helps with meal planning. Also I've found a supplier of organic field-grown wheatgrass so thats in the freezer too which makes the morning smoothie really zing - better than having heavy meat in the evenings.
There is an interactive website which closely examines several common household problems and offers solutions that you can begin implementing right away. The information goes beyond what is offered in the book, so you'll definitely want to check it out to get a complete picture of how to develop healthier habits. In order to use all of the features, you'll have to register with a book code that you'll find in the back of your copy of The Healthy Home.
I urge you to get your copy now - I won't be lending mine out as I don't tend to get good books back.
