I, Merlin: An Historical Recreation
I, Merlin: An Historical Recreation
by Sir Christopher Davson
Edition: Hardcover

2.0 out of 5 stars Bonkers - I think there is an interesting proposal in ..., 25 April 2015

Bonkers - I think there is an interesting proposal in here somewhere, but it is hard to find. Ignores all contemporary evidence for Merlin and/or Arthur, and goes off on a very personal tangent. Historical recreation - No. Wholly a work of fiction.

King Arthur: The True Story
King Arthur: The True Story
by Graham Phillips
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars The first such book I read, at the time ..., 25 April 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The first such book I read, at the time of its initial release, this is an interesting and compelling proposal for the existence of a real 'Arthur' figure, even if he was not so named. Much of Phillips' other work relies on this research as a basis, though they can all be read alone. Well worth a read.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is a good examining of evidence that may support the existence of ..., 25 April 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a good examining of evidence that may support the existence of one, or a number of 'Arthur' figures during the dark age period. It is presented in a sensible, chronological manner, and allows the reader, ultimately to make up their own mind based on the evidence presented. I think it would have been better if it examined some of the other 'pet' theories a little closer, but otherwise recommended.

The Holy Kingdom: Quest for the Real King Arthur
The Holy Kingdom: Quest for the Real King Arthur
by Adrian Gilbert
Edition: Paperback

3.0 out of 5 stars Its an interesting proposal, but is hard to read ..., 25 April 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Its an interesting proposal, but is hard to read, with too much dancing around the dates. I think we are at the point where there is some acceptance, even amongst professionals, that Arthur has some basis in fact, even though there is strong disagreement of how much. This book goes some way to examining possibility, but its style leaves much to be desired.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the best of the recent crop of 'What if' Arthur research, 25 April 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Not the best of the recent crop of 'What if' Arthur research. Spends too much time trying to make his research fit a pet theory rather than the other way around.

12" tracks

I loved it and will look to buy more in the series. Back in the day, the 12" was the one to own, but nowadays they are hard to find indeed. Even if I still owned all my own vinyl, I have no means of playing it, so its great to hear these old favourites again.

4.0 out of 5 stars An end or a new beginning?, 14 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I spent the first part of the year re-reading all of Feists work.

There is a noticeable change in standard of writing as we move through the books, as has been said here many times, the two books prior to this one were really not that good, and mostly repeating plotlines that had gone before, and with characters essentially similar to those that had been killed off in the past.

Magicians End is mostly a return to form - though it isn't perfect. It does bring the story of Pug and Tomas to an end however, and leaves an opening to return to Midkemia in the future. I guess we will have to see how the next series pans out, as to whether the 'safety' of Midkemia proves an impossible lure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!, 14 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
If you buy one book to help improve your governing body, make it this one - its a serious volume, and provides a comprehensive guide as to what you should be doing to make sure your team meets Ofsted expectations. Its current as at September 2013 too, which saves an awful lot of websearching for the right documents!
