a modern day marvel, 18 Feb 2008
As delia herself says in the introduction, "a whole new approach to cooking and eating in the 21st century". I think this book is an ideal book for ALL, despite my own mis-givings prior to launch. I am delighted in my copy of HTCaC, the recipes are well written and the method is written in true Delia style, no airs or graces, the photography is amazing, almost each recipe has a superb colour picture, and each recipe does name a particular branded product, but you are not made to feel obligated to buy THAT product, and over time novice or nervous cooks, and those with hectic work lives, will rather than cheat, for example, they will make their own mashed potato, brought from the local grocer, or buy their own minced lamb from their local butcher. Delia is taking the scary factor out of cooking, that many modern day chefs install in people and make them feel insecure about their cooking abilities. Also, this book serves a reminder to those who are more deft in the kitchen that once in a while a cheat is good, provided you use good quality sourced products. Thank you Delia.
