3.0 out of 5 stars It's okay, 21 Jun 2013

Not sure why its called The Last Templar when the main character seems to be the bailiff but it's nicely passed with well drawn characters and good contextual detail. Will read some more of them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good follow up to the Falco novels, 21 Jun 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It's not quite as funny or entertaining as the Falco novels - Albia seems a more sober character - and choosing a female protagonist is clearly going to limit the action a bit but its an intriguing choice and I'm looking forward to seeing how the character develops.

3.0 out of 5 stars Obviously a first attempt, 21 Jun 2013

Found the writing style a little simplistic, cautious even, but the plot was good and the characters realistic. Good descriptions of medieval life too. Engaging enough for me to buy the next.

Really like the use of Dr Dee has the central character. Historical detail seems accurate and well drawn. Great plot - fast paced, with that supernatural element clevely woven in.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good historical fiction, 14 Jan 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Dr Dee is an interesting character from history to choose and like Bones of Avalon, this is very atmospheric and a bit spooky too. If you like S J Sansom's Shardlake series, you might like these books too.

Definitely worth the money and a good, solid plot with a bit of the supernatural in it to add an extra dimension.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's Pretty Good, 14 Jan 2013

Better than most of the Roman stuff - the historical detail is very good, but the stories starting to get the same and quite a few of the good characters from the previous three books were not really used in this instalment. Was worth the price though.

Smart and funny although you do feel guilty for laughing. Very affecting tacking shot on Dean just after he finds Troy. Great ensemble cast.

Warmer, and therefore more engaging, than most of Lars von Trier's work. He should hand his stuff over to other directors more often, especially when young actors are involved.
