5.0 out of 5 stars 5 star package!, 14 Jun 2009
This review is from: Aces Back to Back (Audio CD)
A mixed bag of Darin's rare songs, live performances, 60's hits, outtakes... all in all an excellent compilation with sensational sound.

Some essential moments:
- This Could Be The Start Of Something Big - live, relaxed and kicks a..s;
- All I Have To Do Is Dream - rare live duet with Petula Clark;
- Beyond The See - live, sensational version with great arrangements;
- Dream Lover - later 'easy listening' version of his early hit, just Bobby and the guitar!
- Mack The Knife - a great, previously unreleased, live version;

This cd is highly listenable and recommended! 5 stars all the way through.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spectacular!, 7 Sep 2006
This review is from: Classic (Audio CD)
This de-luxe box set covers Jerry's Sun studio years from 1956-63, and include EVERY song that 'Killer' recorded in that period: all in all 246 songs with 30 unissued performances in perfect sound quality- all tracks are mastered from the original tapes.
If your tired of countless 'best of' compilations with always the same songs in not so good sound quality, this is the nice solution. And trust me, it's great music (Jerry is really the wildest, meanest and the most rockin' star of late 50's and early 60's with an uncredible ego, (that's maybe the reason why he sounds so good)) in a great package, and after I've heard all 8 cd's, i was just breathless. Yes it was that good!

3.0 out of 5 stars Bad Remastering, 18 Jun 2006
This review is from: All Shook Up (Audio CD)
Don't get me wrong- the show is great, Elvis is in his 'happy' mood, but for the professional recorded concert, the sound is bloody cheap and the mix is strange. Really guys, for this price you could have done a way better remastering job. 3 stars for the sound. FTD, you've fooled us again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sound will blow your mind!, 12 Mar 2006
Maybe this is not the best Elvis concert, but it's the BEST SOUNDING Elvis concert E V E R!!! Forget BMG/RCA sterile sound on their 1998 cd reissue, this is the real thing. Ronnie Tutt on drums is (first time ever) up front and loud in the mix, together with James Burton on guitar. Sound is perfectly balanced, crystal clear and rich. 10+

5.0 out of 5 stars Just PERFECT, 27 Jan 2006
This review is from: Rocks (Audio CD)
Luxury cd from Bear Family Records. 31 tracks - Carls recordings for Sun, Columbia, Decca and Mercury from 1955-90.
This digipack comes with a 46 page booklet with nice pictures, complete biography and discography and a tribute from Colin Escott.
Bear Family Records always knew how to deal with rock'n'roll - sound is AMAZING - perfect mix and mastering.
If you don't have Bear Family box sets of Carl Perkins, this is the only compilation worth having. This is the real thing from the guy who inspired The Beatles.

5.0 out of 5 stars The winner!, 25 Jan 2006
This is the longest doors concert ever captured on tape. The year is 1970.
The sound is AWESOME (sharp and very well balanced), great mix and mastering.
Morrison is focused on every song, no fooling around - he's just a great singer that night, not drunkard, poet or the 'lizard king'.
Some blues songs, couple of old hits and a new songs from the last 'Morrison Hotel' album are performed.
Cd is published by 'Bright Midnight', (the Doors collectors label) and 'Rhino Handmade'.
Price of the cd is pretty high, but i can't help you with that. But, dont worry, for this price you'll get the right one!

3.0 out of 5 stars The sound issue, 19 Jan 2006
This review is from: The Best Of Marty Wilde (Audio CD)
Pretty good selection of songs with ALL relevant hits (I don't understand why not in chronological order, though). But, when it comes to the sound on this cd, I'm not happy. Songs on this cd are NOT newly mixed and/or digitally remastered (my god, it's been a 45 years since these songs were recorded).
The sound is flat and (in some songs) very hissy.
I was saving when I bought this cd instead of BGO's 2 albums on one cd edition (with the same songs). Wrong choice. Don't get me wrong, this is a very nice 'best of' with a very nice price published in 1995.
But, it's 2006, and we all know how great the sound on such old recordings can be. Not here on this cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, 10 Nov 2004
For an album recorded back in 1963-64, its sound quality is amazing. This is the best sounding cd I've ever heard from this period. Almost everything that's missing in RCA box set "The Man who invented the Soul" can be found here. Although not his most famous hits, song selection is on a par with them. A job well done, ABKCO!
