Always enjoy Miss Read, her books are soft and gentle reads and take me back to my childhood. I like the way the same characters pop up in her other books from time to time, beautifully portrayed

3.0 out of 5 stars Not one of his best, 30 May 2011

I love Ken Follett books and have always enjoyed them. Jackdaws starts off briskly and soon draws you in to the story, but about half way through, it all seems to get a bit predictable and for want of a better word, the story gets "rushed". Not much suspense here with none of the surprising twists of some of his other books - all in all its not a bad read, but I was left feeling a bit disappointed and felt there could have been much more to this story, hence only 3 stars, certainly not one of his best.

Slightly slow start but soon picked up pace, characters all intriguing and I wanted to learn more about them as they developed - can't wait for more from this set of characters - the price unbeatable (nothing!) Thoroughly recommended!!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of her best, 30 May 2011

I read this book many years ago and it has always remained one of my favourite Georgette Heyer Regency books - if only History had been taught like this at school! Waterloo descriptions are magnificent and so obviously well researched, and the main thing - not too technical, - fitting in with the storyline so easily - brilliant characters, some old one re-introduced - could almost feel myself there - "unputdownable!!

Although the age group is 8+ it was certainly a challenge for my 7 almost 8 grandson - good job Dad was on hand! Both of them enjoyed buiding it in the end - I do think unless your child is a real lego expert, help would almost certainly be needed in that age bracket - saying that, I realise some children are more dexterous than others - As for the lego itself it maintains the brilliant reputation it has richly deserved over the years -however, not really a 'toy' to be played with when finally built.
