4.0 out of 5 stars Red blouse, 25 Nov 2012
My friend loved this top (a gift from me), it was well fitted which made it very flattering on her slim figure. The red colour is true to the picture and the quality of the material is good. Another bonus is that the top looks more expensive than it is.

I bought this cow toy for my mum as one of her birthday presents (she collects cow objects) and she was delighted. It is stuffed well so that it can sit unsupported and robustly made. An item to delight both adults and toddlers.

Quicksand Beach
Quicksand Beach
by Kate Bingham

4.0 out of 5 stars Quicksand Beach, 25 Nov 2012
This review is from: Quicksand Beach (Paperback)
Bingham uses her own life experiences in this excellent collection of poetry. Unlike many confessional style poets, she is not self pitying or self indulgent; her poems are more about sharing life experiences. Two of my favourites are: `Diamonds', an amusing poem about birthday gifts and `6th December 1998', a touching poem about a mother's first meeting with her newborn. Special occasions, relationships and mundane daily living, all get the Bingham treatment and she does it so well.

3.0 out of 5 stars Murder In Lisbon, 22 Mar 2012
This review is from: Murder in Lisbon (Paperback)
This book is in serious need of professional editing. There are spelling mistakes, point-of-view shifts and most distracting of all: proper nouns and emphatic word are all underlined. Some people may think that I am being pedantic, but I found these inaccuracies jarring and it spoiled my enjoyment of the story. On page 20 for example, the word 'Pegasus' is underlined seven times.

On a positive note, if you can persevere, the flying scenes are well researched and the tension is well maintained throughout the story.

The Seven Sisters (Poetry Book)
The Seven Sisters (Poetry Book)

5.0 out of 5 stars The Seven Sisters, 10 Mar 2012
My favourite poem in this book is the short poetic sequence, `The Seven Sisters', which is about seven sisters who each commit one of the seven deadly sins. It is set in East Sussex and has references to the famous cliffs and biblical references. Each one of the sequences is like a short story but told through unrhymed tercets. The imagery in this poem is a delight and the use of archaic words works well (surprisingly).

Another strong poem is `An East Sussex Shower', told in prose style without line breaks. It uses repetition, imagery and rhythm to good effect. It is the prequel to a storm and a certain tension runs through it; it starts as follows, "I saw the towering street lamp with its brontosaurus neck bent over the bleak sea. I saw the stony sky, the hors d'oeuvre of the storm, the pitiless appetizer above the rat-snake sidewalk".

There is plenty of humour in this collection for example the bitter/sweet ` "I Remember" by Damian Block' about a man who has dumped his wife and is looking back through a drunken haze and the two cat poems; one about a cat interrupting a cook and another about a mischievous pregnant cat.

Lastly, I enjoyed the visual poetry, particularly `Eastbourne Pier'. It uses words describing the pier to create the pier structure and it illustrates the fragility of the pier by showing some of the letters falling into the sea.

I am very pleased with these batteries; I have always found them hard to find locally. They are also much cheaper online. I purchased them for my digital bathroom scales and they worked straight away. They are a great product at a good price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ladies Fleece Jacket, 6 Mar 2012

I bought this fleece for a friend and she was delighted with the quality and the colour; the colour is true to the picture. She did warn however, that the fleece sizing is bigger than normal; she usually takes a small but an extra small would have been better. Nevertheless, she admitted that a slightly larger size is sometimes preferable if you want to wear several layers in the winter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ezra Pound Selected Poems, 6 Mar 2012
This is a nicely bound book from Faber and Faber with a good selection of Pound's poetry. I particularly enjoyed the selection from LUSTRA; they are cynical yet beautifully formed. His humour regarding relationships is seldom matched; `The Bath Tub', `Liu Ch'e and `Arides', are good examples and are particular favourites of mine. As the other reviewer stated, it is a little annoying that the dates of certain volumes are missing, but don't let that put you off from this fine poetry.
