Perfect Handbook for anorak, car glove compartment, etc, 25 July 2005
According to author Clive Fewins this is a book not to be read - and it is
easy to see what he means.
The Church explorers Handbook is just that. It is designed to accompany you
in your anorak pocket, car glove compartment, or cycle saddlebag.
But first you have to be interested in the subject. The author makes a good
case for church exploring as a pastime. You see lots of countryside, it is
an active hobby, you can do it all the year round, it is packed with
interest, and it costs you nothing.
According to Clive Fewins there are some 30 million people a year now
visiting churches and cathedrals in the UK. It is a far more popular pastime
than many people realise.
Reading this book I can quite understand why. Church buildings are packed
with interest, and they tell us masses about our country and our British way
This bright, breezy and compact book has been a real eye-opener for me. It
is solid and beautifully produced. Ideal for the jacket pocket, in fact,
although I have chosen to keep the book in my car glove compartment..
