Black Ops PS3, 4 Dec 2010

I bought into the hype surrounding this game and was becoming bored of Modern Warfare 2 and needed a change. I should have really known better as World at War was poor in comparison to the Infinity Ward titles MW and MW2 benchmarks.
Graphically the game is sub standard for this generation and the PS3 visuals are well documented on the net. Compared to MW2 this almost looks amateurish and almost cartoon like.
Single player campaign is decent and longer than MW2 and you play various scenarios through the eyes of different operatives .
Online level design is where this game seems to fall down as some maps seem oversized and whilst I do use sniper rifle it seems there are few opportunities to explore this side of the game, without being bored. Levels like Array, jungle and Summit are enjoyable but Crisis, Firing Range and Nuketown just annoy encouraging camping or boredom. Respawn points on Nuketown are a joke
The scorecards and after game summaries are good and the perks are decent making a nice change to MW2 but overall I expected the developer to raise the bar but this game really failed to spark into life online. Zombie mode took me back to PS2 days and if I wanted Zombies I would buy Resident Evil.
Needless to say I have sold my copy but it maybe worth a shot if you are looking for something different and are bored of MW2. However you may end up back with MW2 once you compare the gameplay and aesthetics of the games.
