5.0 out of 5 stars Riveting!, 7 Feb 2013
This review is from: Fingersmith [2005] [DVD] (DVD)
This riveting two-part BBC adaptation of the Sarah Waters book follows the lives of two young women, Sue Trinder (Sally Hawkins) and Maude Lilly (Elaine Cassidy) through this twisting Victorian Era thriller. From the back alleys of London to a Gothic mansion in the countryside this tale is permeated with eroticism. The story cleverly leads the viewer to a world where what they think they see is not always the truth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quirky, Spanish lesbian series!, 7 Feb 2013
This Spanish lesbian soap opera follows the lives and loves of a group of lesbian friends living in Madrid. Starring Spanish TV star Celia Freijeiro as Nines, the much sought after bartender at the local lesbian bar. Quirky characters and unusual situations make this original web series humorous and unconventional. At first glance the series could be dismissed because of it's obvious low budget however, if keep watching, the characters will grab hold of you. I haven't laughed out loud so much for a long time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Top notch writing and acting!, 7 Feb 2013
This UK production dramatizes the real-life story of Staff Sergeant Caroline Meagher (Helen Baxendale - Cold Feet, Unsuitable Job for a Woman) tasked with investigating suspected lesbians in the British Army. The job was a difficult one as Meagher was a lesbian herself and fighting to hold onto both her job in the Army and her girlfriend (Laura Fraser - Nina's Heavenly Delights, Lip Service). Homosexuality was a criminal offence in the British military until 1994.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping..., 26 Oct 2012
A fantastic psychological thriller in the tradition of Hitchcock, which grabs you from the very beginning and doesn't let go until it's shocking conclusion. The notion that something is not quite right lingers throughout the film, but you can't put your finger on exactly what it is. Wonderful performances by Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz as husband and wife who move to the suburbs in search of a peaceful place to raise their daughters and Naomi Watts as their neighbour. The viewer's realities are shattered more than once forcing a shift in perception to understand what you are seeing and what is truly going on.

8 Women [DVD]
8 Women [DVD]

Price: £6.29

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious!, 18 Oct 2012
This review is from: 8 Women [DVD] (DVD)
In 1950's France, a family is gathered to celebrate Christmas in an isolated mansion. When the patriarch is murdered, everyone in the house comes under scrutiny; the wife Gaby (Catherine Deneuve), the spinster sister-in-law Augustine (Isabelle Huppert), the mother-in-law Mamy (Danielle Darrieux), the chambermaid Louise (Emmanuelle Beart), the daughters Suzon (Virginie Ledoyen) and Catherine (Ludivine Sagnier). When the victim's sister Pierrette (Fanny Ardant) arrives, the household is sent into chaos. In one particularly fraught scene, what starts as a girl fight, ends up with Gaby and Pierrette in a passionate embrace on the floor.

In an unusual twist, this murder mystery turns musical as each actress sings a song in this campy musical murder mystery.

It's In The Water [1998] [DVD]
Dvd ~ Keri Jo Chapman
Offered by GX-ENTERTAINMENT UK
Price: £27.99

3.0 out of 5 stars Light- hearted comedy, 18 Oct 2012
Alex (Keri Jo Chapman) lives a privileged life in Azalea Springs, Texas working in the local AIDS Hospice. When recently divorced old school friend, Grace (Teresa Garrett) returns to town and confesses that she is a lesbian, Alex is initially shocked. After re-assessing her own life, Alex discovers that she has more than just friendly feelings for Grace. When Grace and Alex are 'outed' prematurely by another resident, it is jokingly noted that it must be something 'in the water' that is contributing to the rising number of homosexuals in the town. A funny, light-hearted film about being gay, coming out and being yourself.

2.0 out of 5 stars Predictable, 18 Oct 2012
This review is from: The Monkey's Mask [DVD] (DVD)
Street-smart private investigator Jill Fitzpatrick (Susie Porter) is investigating the disappearance of Mickey, a young female student. After meeting Mickey's poetry lecturer Diana (Kelly McGillis - pre-coming out as a lesbian herself), they begin an intense affair. When Mickey's body is discovered and Jill begins receiving threatening messages, she begins to wonder if she is too close to the truth or blinded by passion.

This highly predictable lesbian thriller doesn't really pull off the excitement factor viewers usually look for in a thriller.

We Have To Stop Now - Season 1 [DVD]

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining!, 18 Oct 2012
Power couple Kit (Jill Bennett) and Dyna (Cathy DeBuono) appear to have it all, each with their own practice and a best-selling book called `How to Succeed in Marriage Without Even Trying.' Unfortunately, just as the book is published, they begin having marital trouble. To keep a lid on their personal troubles and continue to sell their book, they begin couples counseling.

Knowing that Jill Bennett and Cathy DeBuono are a real-life couple made this even more enjoyable. Great play on couples therapy and what it takes to make a relationship work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sleek and Sexy..., 18 Oct 2012
This review is from: The Hunger [DVD] [1983] (DVD)
From it's opening sequence in an upscale bar with a moody backdrop of Bauhaus music, this stylish classic captures the essence of the 1980's Dark Wave movement. In this adaptation of the lesbian vampire story, the magnificent Catherine Deneuve stars as vampiric seductress Miriam Blaylock and Susan Sarandon as Sarah Roberts, her chosen partner. The seduction scene is hot and sexy as Miriam slowly and casually lures Sarah into the bedroom while recounting the story of Lakme by Delibes. David Bowie also stars as John, Miriam's ailing lover. This haunting and sensual tale of lust and eternal life is as good today as it was is in 1983.

4.0 out of 5 stars Captivating..., 18 Oct 2012
This review is from: Kiss Me [DVD] (DVD)
When Mia (Ruth Vega Fernandez) meets Frida (Liv Mjones) at her father's birthday party, she is captivated by her. This does pose a problem as Mia has just announced her engagement to boyfriend Tim. When the women go off on a weekend getaway to the island of Fyn together, the sparks start to fly as they are irresistibly drawn to each other. In the aftermath, Mia's life is thrown into turmoil when she can't put meeting Frida or the passion they shared behind her.

The love scenes are beautifully directed with both passion and tenderness. The gorgeous Swedish countryside is a perfect setting for this story, which illustrates that love, can be lurking in unexpected places.
