"Time Out" Film Guide 2007

5.0 out of 5 stars My film 'bible', 24 Dec 2007
I can't say I've done a side-by-side comparison of the various guides out there. But every few years I update my film guide and always plump for the Time Out volume. Yes, it is rather critical/cynical, which is to be expected from Time Out I suppose, but I have generally agreed with its comments, and therefore it sits under my screen. This edition represents a good update on former incarnations and the indexing is superb.

5.0 out of 5 stars A most fascinating insight into British royalty, 24 Dec 2007
Although I didn't expect to (after reading some of the media slurs), I found this book to be written with a fine touch - spellbinding and intriguing. It must be as good as any portrait of the Windsors in print. I also recommend the Audio book, narrated most effectively by Burrell himself, with exquisite renditions of the Royals' voices!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful books at a great price, 24 Dec 2007
These books are very well made and represent terrific value at just over 10 per volume (when purchasing the set). Their design makes them a joy to read. I highly recommend these to any Dickens fan. If you haven't bought any/many Dickens works before, this could be just the time to start. I eagerly await the following 3 sets of volumes.

"I found Uriah reading a great fat book, with such demonstrative attention, that his lank forefinger followed up every line as he read, and made clammy tracks along the page (or so I fully believed) like a snail." David Copperfield

5.0 out of 5 stars I love it!, 24 Dec 2007
I tend to set the taps running in the bathroom, then move into another room and surf the 'Net while waiting. This simple little device beeps when the water reaches the desired level and prevents the bath from running over while I'm buying stuff on Amazon!

4.0 out of 5 stars A fine pocket notebook, 24 Dec 2007
Am I the only person who expected this to have moleskin covers? Ie covers made from that fine, soft, nice-to-feel cotton fabric.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spectacular!, 24 Dec 2007
Wonderful photography throughout. Sometimes the high definition presentation feels almost 3-dimensional. Covers plenty of ground, air, and ocean. I will view this over and over again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative e-book, 24 Dec 2007
This e-book (comes as a searchable .pdf on a CD) takes the reader further into the Nikon D200 than the User Manual. Helps by explaining in detail the functionality of the (terrific) D200. By showing colour photos side-by-side, subtle differences can be seen more clearly than is possible on a printed page. It has helped me to make more out of my D200 and I therefore recommend it highly.

The Adventure of English
The Adventure of English
by Melvyn Bragg
Edition: Audio CD

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly awesome audiobook!, 27 Oct 2005
Melvyn Bragg's account of the evolution of the English language is very well-researched, makes fascinating references to the impact of history, and is exceedingly clear.
What raises the work even further is the reading in the audio version by Robert Powell. I would honestly say that this is breathtaking! He reads just how Greek, Latin, French, Friesian, Old Norse, Old English, Middle English, regional dialects, etc have amalgamated over the centuries and freely absorbed from so many other languages. His polyglot weaving through linguistic influences is a unique achievement.
A treat!
