3.0 out of 5 stars Now dated technology, D7100 a better choice, 13 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a nice camera, well built, and beautiful to look at, but not the most comfortable to hold because of its bulky, chunky design. Functions not the most intuitive but if you study the manual, or better still use on of the Dummies guides, you'll get the hang of it. I wasn't terribly impressed with the image quality. The images often were soft focussed and just lacked the biting sharpness I would expect from a top of the range DX camera. I can only suspect that the anti-alias filter used in this camera has contributed to the soft images, but it could also be the kit lens which is a contributory factor. Right now, the D7100 which replaced this model is still very expensive. I think in a year or 2, the situation will have changed and you'll be able to get the D7100 for a lower price. Still, if you want a good camera now, the D7000 probably represents fairly good value, and maybe with a better lens, it may perform very well indeed. I just haven't been impressed so far.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good advanced overview, 11 Jan 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
A good overview of the subject of Mediterranean mountain environments. Quite technical in its approach, I was disappointed that it didn't engage the reader at a more stimulating level, as the best authors do. Nonetheless this book will reward patience and careful reading. It assumes prior knowledge and I would presume this book is aimed at perhaps 3rd year undergraduate students or post-graduate studies. The book is good but is not really an introduction so other volumes might be better for new students and non-specialists. Many interesting photographs, diagrams, and figures. Recommended for the advanced reader. I should say I come from a forestry background, having studied that subject to degree level. I've seen many textbooks - those that are engaging and those that aren't. This one isn't terribly engaging and it doesn't have the x-factor that some other books have, combining a thorough coverage and explanation, but not losing the reader through a dry writing style.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality case at a high price, 5 Jan 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a quality case for your Kindle device. It feels really well made and looks hip and modern. It contains the Kindle well and will offer good protection. The design is novel and allows you to watch videos and suchlike with some ease. It is very expensive though, nearly sixty pounds at the time of writing. I am not sure it is worth the price though, given that there are cheaper cases available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality material, 1 Jan 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
These trousers have a real quality feel to them and feature an attractive design and the famous Berghaus logo. The material is very pleasing to the touch and looks durable. There is a lining. The 1/4 zips in the lower leg makes getting them on and off easy. Recommended waterproof and breathable trousers. Nothing more to say than that about a pair of waterproof trousers from Berghaus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality item, 29 Dec 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Nice case that works well. Main compartment affords protection to netbook whilst two other pockets hold smaller items like ipod, phone, pens etc... It's a smart little case. You can carry it with handles or the shoulder strap. Nothing more to say. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, 29 Dec 2013

This is a brilliant machine. You can make whatever coffee drinks you want, from cappuccinos to lattes, macchiatos to espresso shots. It's all here. The machine is compact, efficient, and easy to use. The aeroccino works really well. Perhaps like me, you wonder will it really work. Yes it does! It makes enough milk froth for two small cappuccinos (I use the official Nespresso glass cappuccino cups). Or it holds enough milk to make one latte (I use the official Nespresso milk recipe glass). I find the milk frother very good, and the forth it produces is very good and lasts in the cup, for example when making cappuccino. I find that sometimes, certain milk won't froth, but this is not the Aeroccino's fault. On the same day, I had semi-skimmed milk from two different well-known supermarkets. One frothed, the other did not, so if you have problems getting milk to froth, it's most likely due to the milk, so experiment to find a milk brand/variety that works for you. There is a wide choice of coffee varieties to choose from and with this machine, you are sure to be able to make whatever drinks you like best. I am totally pleased with this machine and with the quality of the coffee drinks I can produce with it. I've made cappuccinos, caramel lattes, and macchiatos, and it all tastes better than anything I've had at Costa or Starbucks. Now take a look at the pictures I uploaded of three of the drinks I made!

Update: After using the machine for some weeks now, there are a couple of little things I don't like. I don't like the fact that the machine has rather stubby rubber feet. These don't raise the machine sufficiently from the counter-top to prevent water getting in contact with the underside of the machine. On that subject, there is a bit of water on the counter in use. I am not particularly careless; wastewater, whether from drips which land on the worksurface when you remove a tall glass from the machine and the drip tray falls back into place, but not before some coffee has dripped onto the counter. Also, the little wastewater reservoir under the spent pod storage container is not very large capacity and if you use your machine everyday, multiple times, you will really have to empty it each day, and gave it a wipe at the least if not a quick rinse under the tap, along with the spent capsule storage container. I also think the Aeroccino is a little small. It's brilliant but small. It only makes enough hot milk for one regular latte or enough frothed milk for one regular (according to my specification of half an average size glass tumble) latte macchiato, or for 1.7 cappuccinos (using the official Nespresso cappuccino glass cups as featured in the photographs I uploaded - see above at the product illustrations section. These are all small things and in no way change the fact that I am very pleased with this machine. I'm just giving you greater insights into what owning and using this machine is like.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent - it does indeed hold 30 capsules, 29 Dec 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This device looks good. Some reviewers have said it only holds 4 capsules in each vertical slot; this is incorrect. I can confirm that each vertical slot holds 5 official Nespresso capsules with ease. The centre steel cup holds an additional 13 capsules. For those of you that want an attractive storage solution for your kitchen but one that is more discrete and visually pleasing than the big wire contraptions, this is it. It is not clear from the illustrations how many vertical storage slots there are, though you can deduce it from the stated fact that it holds 30 capsules - there are 6 vertical slots, two on each of the three sides, each holding 5 capsules. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, 24 Dec 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
These are brilliant. I never heard of them before so was eager to try them out. They fit over the hand-grips of your barbel or dumbells. The fit was not perfect with my York dumbells - the blue grips are a little bit long, but it worked out ok. I should imagine if they fit the York, they will most likely fit most other dumbells and barbels. In use the grips are very comfortable, much nicer on the hand than the textured metal. In use, they cause you to not only work the biceps, but also your forearms muscles because you have to grip them rather than let the thinner, metal grip of the bar rest in your hands. I really felt the burn. These are excellent.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very specialist text, 12 Dec 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is very much an academic title, reflected in the high product cost despite being a fairly short but hardback book. Nonetheless, for geography and other earth sciences students and those who work in this field, this serves as a good advanced foundation on the subject of paleomagnetism of sedimentary rocks for the already informed. Paleomagneticism is the branch of geophysics concerned with the magnetism in rocks that was induced by the earth's magnetic field at the time of their formation. Yes, pretty obscure, but if you need to read up on this subject, then this can be heartily and firmly recommended. Illustrated throughout with various and diverse photographs, tables, complicated scientific formulae, and charts. Be aware that the text is very dense and so it might not be suitable for undergraduate studies. I know from my own experience at a renowned university studying a science subject, there just isn't time to get bogged down in densely written and exhaustive texts, and so the smart money is on books that tell you what you really NEED to know, not on high-brow pomposity which really only serves to confuse and intimidate. I didn't particularly like the double column text layout, and think a better format would have been a longer book with the text in larger print and more pleasingly set out, but the publisher has thought better of that idea. This is very high-level and obscure stuff, but if you need to know about it, then this could be the book for you. The book does presume a formation in the subject so is really aimed at (I think) post-graduate studies. Me, I'll pass!

5.0 out of 5 stars Top advice from a spiritual master, 12 Dec 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book is an excellent, practical guide to living the life of Christ and fighting the good fight. There is advice here which has been developed by a spiritual master and not even a lifetime on one's own would produce this wisdom. This book was a firm favourite of St. Francis de Sales and it can be your guide too. I love the simple, direct language used. Indeed, this has been made possible by the efforts of modern translators in this particular edition of the book which strove to make the sentence structure easier to follow for modern readers. I love the solid advice from everything on what to do when you fall, to how to resist temptations, to how to prepare for Holy Communion and death. This book will help you in these difficult times, when perhaps you don't have access to somebody who can give really solid advice on the spiritual life. I know that whilst we still have access to Mass and Confession in most places, it can be difficult to find a spiritual director and so a good book can be the next best thing.
