3.0 out of 5 stars It could be a lot worse..., 14 Jun. 2016

Under The Influence is the third album to be released by the thrash metal band Overkill. It is about as standard as thrash metal will ever get but it is a good fun time whilst it lasts.

I really enjoyed the songs, Hello From The Gutter, Mad Gone World and the seven minute long End of the Line, which features some great guitar playing. Overkill show some skill in these songs, even if they're not very original. They rock from start to finish, not caring what gets in their way.

The sound for this album is a little weak but being an album from 1988, that is to be expected. The guitars sound a little thin and the drums have no impact behind them. It is the albums main downfall, one which I would love to hear fixed.

If you want some good consistent thrash metal, you have came to the right place. I wouldn't say the album is great but it is definitely a good time if you like this sort of thing. Overkill have released a lot worse and it is surely less repetitive than more popular albums from the likes of Slayer.

When I purchased Sin And Bones I was hoping for another very energetic album from Fozzy. I have been a fan of theirs since the first album was released and even though the first two albums were mostly covers, they had a lot of love in them and were great fun. Sadly this album doesn't have that same energy.

This is by no means a bad album. There are plenty of good songs on here but in comparison to the previous records, it is a little under whelming. It just lacks that certain something. It is very nicely produced however and has some top quality sound.

I wouldn't recommend it as a full price purchase but it is worth having on a discount. It is not a bad album, just a very uneventful one.

Somewhere Back In Time is an album I bought to introduce my son to Iron Maiden and I quickly regretted that decision.

When you look on the back cover you see a good selection of the band's most well known numbers and they all sound great. They have been nicely remastered and don't show their age at all. The song selection is fine enough, though having Children of the Damned and not The Prisoner, Sanctuary or any of the better songs is a bit strange. It sounds quite out of place.

The big problem here revolves around the use of live material instead of featuring the legendary songs Iron Maiden, Wrath Child and Phantom of the Opera sang by Paul Di'Anno. They replaced them with horrible overdubbed tracks from Live After Death. I don't care what Iron Maiden fans say, I have never considered the performances of Live After Death to be of good quality. Bruce Dickinson over sings each one of these songs, he cannot replicate that punk spirit that made these songs so good. I suspect they did this just to avoid paying Di'Anno which is even worse.

Somewhere Back In Time is a decent collection for kids but for fans of the band it is a complete shambles. There is absolutely no reason to buy this collection at all. It is a shame to see that they're too ashamed to use the studio tracks from their début album. It was bad enough they did it on Best of the Beast, but at least it had good continuous momentum in the track list. This album does not, avoid it and buy the previously mentioned album instead.

Bridges To Babylon by The Rolling Stones is a decent but not great album. This is a record that has so much going for it but just falls short of greatness.

The problem mainly lies in the song writing. There isn't a bad song on here, I enjoyed each for all they're worth. It's catchy rock and pop all thrown into one big mixed bag. But there are very few that are memorable. I have played this album over a few times and still couldn't name one track.

Another thing that bugs me with this album is the drumming. Charlie Watts is a good drummer and always has been. But in his later years his playing has become sloppier and quite lazy. He has never been a great technical drummer as it is, so to hear his performance degrade like this is just a shame.

Other than that, I enjoyed this album. It is not worth a full release price but it is a good bargain buy. There is more then enough to enjoy, just don't go expecting something amazing.

The movie Iron Man 2 and the accompanying sound track turned on a new generation to AC/DC. This alone made the legendary Aussie rock band into an even more popular commercial success. That unfortunately comes with a few draw backs.

People who own this CD think they know AC/DC's greatest but that sadly is just not true. Half of this album is great stuff, like Back In Black and all that. But the other half is some of the bands most unmemorable material. Does anyone actually want a copy of Guns For Hire or Evil Walks? These songs are as bland and boring as they can be. There could of been much more interesting choices on this album instead, the fact it is not is just a shame. Also starting an album off with Shoot To Thrill just sounds odd. It is a song you have second, especially when you already have a great opener like Highway To Hell and Thunderstruck on there.

This CD is perfectly fine for beginners of the band but be prepared to quickly move on because it does get stale fast. It is a good cheap buy and should not be picked up for anything over £5.

So far I have not heard a Buddy Guy album that I did not like and Slippin' In is no exception. The album is a standards blues rock album that puts lots of emphasis on Buddy Guy's strongest musical features.

Fans of his previous and later work will enjoy this. Slippin' In features the typical blues shuffles, slow blues numbers and some stellar guitar work. Pretty much what you'd expect from a later day Buddy Guy album. It may not show too much creativity but it still holds strong and is very nicely produced.

After giving this album a fare few listeners I have came to the decision that Iron Maiden fans are simply horribly biased towards Virtual XI.

What I heard on this album was a few great songs, some good songs and a couple of questionable numbers. Even the songs of lesser quality were enjoyable enough and not the horrid nightmare that die hard fans claim it to be. I thoroughly enjoyed The Clansman (as tacky as the chorus is), Futureal and Don't Look To The Eyes Of A Stranger. The Educated Fool, Lightning Strikes Twice and When Two Worlds Collide are particularly good. They're very well recorded and keep the pace flowing.

Blaze Bayley puts on quite a solid vocal performance. His voice has a charming low tone that is a nice change from Bruce Dickinson's high pitch shrieking. He brings a differently quality to the band, one that I think is sorely missing these days.

In conclusion Virtual XI has more going for it than Piece of Mind (three/four good songs at most) or any of the more recent releases. It is very well recorded, was produced nicely and in general, it's a very easy album to listen to. I understand it might not be someones cup of tea but when these same people claim the albums that followed are amazing, the same albums that have roughly the same style and tone as this one, they are clearly being unfair, biased and need to grow up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the UK version..., 9 Jun. 2016

12x5 is the second American release for the legendary The Rolling Stones. The group go through the motions with some catchy covers and some pretty decent hooks. The album is fairly up beat and actually sounds good for its age.

I do however have a problem with the track list. I have a nice vinyl copy of The Rolling Stones No. 2 which in my opinion has a vastly superior track list. I do enjoy 12x5 but it does not have the same flow and momentum build up that No.2 does.

I would definitely recommend checking this out for rock n roll enthusiasts and fans of The Rolling Stones. But I feel that this is not the definitive album when you compare the second album that was released in the UK.

I remember growing up as a kid, my mum would always go on and on about Only You. It was hands down her favourite romantic comedy and to this day that remains the same. So when I saw the DVD going to cheap I thought I would pick it up to see what she was raving on about and boy, I'm glad I did.

I loved this movie. It is a simple plot with a couple of little twists here and there. It is by no means anything amazing but it is just such good fun. The comedy and chemistry between the actors and actresses is absolute gold. A lot of the interacting comes across as quite natural and so charming.

Only You is not an amazing movie, it is not awards standards but it is a great feel good movie. If you want to sit down and just relax with a good humoured harmless movie, this is one I'd recommend. Even a big grown up metal head can appreciate such simple things.

As it is Netflix is not the worth the money for any UK user. Sure it nice to have the convenience of streaming films and television shows but the sheer lack of content makes it a pointless subscription.

When I saw the vast amount of programs available to American users, I quickly made my mind up that I was to stop using Netflix. I don't mind paying for it, the service itself is quite good but the sheer lack of programs and films in comparison to our American friends is shocking.
