This review is from: MDNA [Explicit] (MP3 Download)
Like many devoted fans when i first heard "Give me all ..." I couldn't help but feel slightly disappointed,it was a perfectly servicable piece of Pop Music but I somewhat expected more from Her Madgesty. But having now listened to the album at lenght I am glad to report that Madonna has delivered the goods,MDNA is a multi layered, intimimate, rough, tender, glossy, complex, profound and accomplished musical masterpiece. Ignore the madge haters and the doubters, MDNA will satisfy the faithful hardcore fans and convert many more along the way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Girl Power!!, 30 Oct 2011
This review is from: Sucker Punch [DVD] [2011] (DVD)
Sucker Punch is without doubt a future Cult Classic;its a complex, multilayered story unfoldind like a tesseract hypercube. At first it makes little sense, its ridculously fast and doesn't hold your hand.Do not expect the usual cabbage brained linear storytelling of old, this is a desorientating trip inside the fractured mind of a young girl, trying to recover from past traumas with the help of her multiple personalities ;the viewer is thrown into an alternate reality where clock work Nazis, flying trolls, fire breathing dragons, killer androids coexist in a louche 1950's film noir oozing menace and glamour .Once the viewer accept that these are Sweet Pea's manifestations of her subconscious mind, one can just let his/her jaw drop and marvel at the attention to details, the photography, special FX,music, the choregraphy it is really an INCREDIBLE confection, without hyperbole pure Genius.

5.0 out of 5 stars Killer no fillers, 26 Oct 2011

if like me you remember fondly the early 90's BritPop explosion, you should be despairing at the bland FM/car friendly fare that pass itself as indie music these days, where are the Suede,Oasis, happy Mondays,Blur,Elastica? after an absence of 4 years, Suburban knights Hard Fi are back and it was worth the wait. While the Kings of Beige Coldplay are filling stadiums and sold out,Hard Fi have remained true to their indie roots.Killer sounds is another classic, shock full full of growling guitars, prowling drums, sing out loud anthems, sneering lyrics bursting with energy .Hard fi remains the only band whom still has the edge, the swagger, the confidence,to offer something different;no other band can mix a honky tonk piano ,a hard trance loop,a dub step beat with a new wave hook ,a reggae bass line on a Glam rock T Rex chorus and make it work.the strengh of their sound is that it is so familiar and yet remain fresh and edgy .Glam rock, the Clash,Iggy pop,Bad brains, stiff little fingers,Motorhead,70's Elton john and so many other sounds, riffs, hooks, blended expertly by music lovers.A few plays are required before it lets its greatness show,so take the time and enjoy those Killer Sounds.

Stars Of Cctv (Us Album/ Digital)
Stars Of Cctv (Us Album/ Digital)

5.0 out of 5 stars An outstanding album, 26 Oct 2011
Stars of CCtv is an amazing album, it is a ground breaking, Life affirming LP stuffed with future anthems and powerful melodies that linger in the mind and beg to be heard again and again. Hard Fi might not be filling stadiums like Kings of Beige Coldplay) but their influence will be felt for decades to come; Cash Machine pulls no punches and offers a no frills dead end Mc Job going nowhere vibe, but loving it, middle eastern holiday is a beautiful anti war song, the blistering tight up too tight; takes no prisoners all butch bass riffs, impossibly tight drums, testosterone fuelled chorus and swaggering dirty lead guitar is all KILLLER,Got no reason; being young and bored great innit? "Hard to beat" is a classic period, the sweet "moving on now" complimented by the bitter "can do better" makes me cry every time, I could go on but overall Stars by "hard fi" is an amazingly, fresh, proud, jaded, sneering, vulnerable, happy, crafty, sly slice of British indie music, a superb album.

Get your roller skates on, purchase some polyester hot pants, get your glittering Boob tubes, swallow some Quaaludes and dig your flares out ;Henry Stone's has just resurrected some Glittering disco Gems!! As far as compilations go, in my experience its always hit and miss; either you go safe and get the rank/cheesy/handbags at dawn/crowd pleasing frivolous garbage that gives Disco Music such a bad name or go ALL the Way. Thanks my Paradise garage/studio 54/crowd and tunnel's stars for this treasure; The opener "Star Cruising" is a sweaty, sleazy West Hollywood work out like we haven't heard in a while (4 decades in fact),quickly followed by the original Philly version of "let it Flow" sweet and sticky as a Sugar Chicken, as I am grabbed by the Funk driven Love Machine I am letting go, daddy dancing to the poppers infused Gay anthem Manu Manu which is raising the heat a few degrees more just listen to the break), then T-connection deliver with the scorching "On Fire" the get your shirt off/Disco work out by excellence (I will need a hip replacement after that one!),followed a shower of lush strings, soulful vocals, tight drumming, Hard Funk (and I mean hard) to cool down while easing the listener into "Plato's retreat" a Polyester,/Disco balls confection with a dash of Philosophy? An Ambitious ,glamorous Camp, OTT track leading us to the grand finale "Heavenly" sounding like a sexier version Charlie's Angels theme's song with more hairspray and sunshine, amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars A master's touch, 18 Oct 2011

For a long time I have been looking for a decent recording of JS Bach's sensational Kantate No21.."Ich hatte viel bekummernis",composed in 1714 in Weirmar by JS Bach at the age of 29.There are many recordings of this Kantate, but to me they all sound a bit too rushed and not as moving as the seminal 1970 version recorded in Bohemia with Helmut Rilling conducting;(in my view the definitive version).Nevertheless it is one of the most accessible of JS Bach's works, an incredibly delicate, intricate ,beautiful and complex piece of music, with its baroque touches, Italian flourishes and profound radiant spirituality. The tonal interplay between the diverse instruments is utter perfection, listening to the devastatingly graceful dialogue between the Soul (Soprano)and Christ (Basso)one cannot help but be moved, as the temptations of the Flesh and worldly pleasures remains at odds with the demands of leading a virtuous Life, what is a man/woman to do to redeem his/her Soul? trust in Christ i guess ; only JS Bach's genius could impart Choral music with such honesty and pathos; I would recommend this recording to any person curious about Classical Music and Baroque Music in particular; technology can allow anyone to listen and sample the aural treasures reserved to King, Queens and the "Academie".Don't dither buy it, its truly sublime.
