Another classic track from "Her Majesty"'s first LP and amazingly it still sounds fresh as ever, Dance Music dates quickly, but a good dance track should take you back and stand the test of time;a real classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightfully tumescent!, 27 Sept. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Julian Clary Is a national treasure and one of my all times Idols, his quintessentially British smutty humour, over the top pantomime make up and delightful innuendos, can endow the most innoncent quips with a naughtiness that is both thrilling and fresh. In the world of stand ups where a few swear words ,expletives and grossness can get you noticed, it is refreshing to see Julian sticking to what he does best: being Subversive without even trying, remaining controversial and reminding us all that simple rudeness cannot be mistaken for talent. Julian remains the Doyenne or should I say Down wager mistress of the not so innocent, end of the pier/hag drag put down . I have been a fan since his Joan Collins fan Club days, following him through his Sticky moments and revelling in his Glorious sequined outrageousness; don't judge a book by his cover, prick up your ears and let this golden tongue do the talking.

5.0 out of 5 stars OUTRAGEOUS!!!, 27 Sept. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Frankie Boyle is my favourite stand up comedian ,his unique brand of coruscating gallows humour make me HOWL with laughter and tickle my tonsils, his sometimes cruel observations, witty one liners pull no punches and I love him for his honesty ,brilliant self deprecation and Ginger hair.Only the closeted racists, misogynists, homophobes ,anti-disability brigade would find his humour offensive. Political Correctness has destroyed Freedom of speech and expression, offering the kind of bland fare that might be TV friendly but paradoxically doesn't speak on behalf of those excluded from the mainstream media. Being Gay, Black or Disabled doesn't remove one's sense of humour, as often laughter, especially a raucous cackle in the dark can help make a difficult Life more bearable and mitigate the feelings of injustice and disempowerment. To make assumptions about what minorities find hilarious/acceptable is both patronising, condescending and missing the point; one's situation might be dire and tragic, but laughter is a balm that will ease many aches through the darkest times. Don't bristle with self righteousness because you feel offended, the jokes are ultimately on YOU not us.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not enough Disco...., 5 Aug. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Horse Meat Disco 3 is a bit of an oddity to review as it can hardly qualify as a "Disco" compilation as such.Instead the listener is presented with a motley of assorted tracks in a late 80's flavor( metronomic 8 bit drum machines and vocals sampled on an Amiga 1200,looped over a 4/4 beat ), this might be of interest to some but it left me cold. Overall I am tad disappointed as i expected much more, but I will still give it 3 stars for the sparkling Disco/funk gems, hidden amongst the mundane stuff; my advice is listen carefully before you buy ;P

The Secret Life of France
The Secret Life of France
by Lucy Wadham
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Going native, 26 July 2011
This book is a delight; a frank, evocative, erudite and terribly naughty account of a posh housewife going native in France .As a Parisian born Anglophile infatuated with the United kingdom, still confused (after 24 years in London) by its polite coldness, incomprehensible level headed pragmatism, shocking but flashy shabbiness and confusing ambivalence towards what it is to be really "British"; I can relate to Lucy's incredibly insightful observations on the French character. She exposes the collective amnesia that lurks at the heart of modern French Society, the profoundly schizophrenic nature of a Society that likes to promote, fraternity, Equality Liberty; yet remains a Police State where the poor are marginalised and discarded. Where Elites can flourish safe in the knowledge that their positions will remain impregnable and thus perpetuating a sclerotic and nepotistic system adverse to change aka (le piston).Where lofty Ideals, freedom of speech and intellect seem current yet ignore the dreadful impoverished reality of the Banlieues. While the State produces the worst television programs ever made (no BBC panorama or impartiality in that regards)in 1984 style.
As the bland toothless newspapers churn boring stories and must tow the Party line, to cynically polarise public opinion and get people talking about anything but REAL change. And yet despite its many shortfalls, cruel injustices towards minorities and the general stifling conformity that permeates every aspect of its Citizen 's Life, it does give one's a sense of identity and belonging . even the constant nightmare of red tape, scrutiny and regular inspections by lowly jobworths abusing their status and position ;to discourage dissenters and troublemakers. After so many rebukes and humiliations, these hinderances become less of a violation of one autonomy's, rights and freedom and more a cosy straight jacket that discourage creativity yet absolve the individual of all responsibility. As a drone will blossom in conformity, or the creative ones will ends up self medicating through either drinks, Tranxene, Culture, Sex, Religion or Politics. Once this choice is made clear one cannot help but fall in love with France, its culture and mythology. As her son pointed out :conform or fail;but if you do fail make it a Tragic statement your last act of "Freedoom".if you are really curious about french culture and despise the easy clliches of a "clarkson" or Beauf , do read this hilariously cringing, tongue in cheek tale, blending flawless reporting, gossips, history, culture, family and antropology a la levis strauss. For i am still entrhalled by london's anarchic charm, energy, creativity, cutting edge fashion and ecentricity ;but in my own snobbish, opiniated and slightly overbearing French way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heuristchen!!!, 22 April 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Heuristchen or Heuristic means "not a rigorous solution, but suggestive of further development",this term borrowed from physics applies to this masterpiece of retro-futuristic electronia. Its incredibly richly textured, soundscape, where the rigorous influence of Philip Glass coexist within the lush complexity of an Eno landscape, freely sampling the baroque flourishes of john Cale to add colour while the coldly melodious kraftwerk like Drum machines chatter in a symphony of digitized harmonies.Never before have I heard such beliguing Dance Music, strangely familiar and yet blending so many influences in a "gesalt" that manage to preserve each song's essence while adding another dimension through remixing its elements .That daftPunk asked other Producers and Artists to re-make remodel, reconfigure their sound attest to their immeense talent and maturity. Fantastic!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for Daft Punk fans.., 5 Jan. 2011

The first time I heard [[Justice]] I was totally amazed, this clever melange of dirty techno/funk sounds, wrapped in a maze of twisted Moog loops, held together by amazing chords ;left me breathless with anticipation and craving for another throbbing of the deep filtered bass line . Justice's playful, spooky, infectious, multidimensional blend of sounds, samples and loops brings dance Meister's Daft Punk to mind.So enjoy these songs, but after a few listen;you will come to realize that these are no copycat tracks, but Mana from your favorite Machine Gods bestowing more aural candy under another guise....

This Disco Collection showcase the real Underground club sounds of NYC in the late 70's,with no fillers,or commercial dross that gave Disco Music such a bad name. The music here sounds fresh, engaging and uplifting but retain an edgy vibe that hint at something darker. For there is more to Disco Music than hot pants, hairspray and glitter. In the late 70's New York city was on the brink, riddled with corruption, mismanaged by inept politicians the Big Apple was facing financial ruin. The Police strikes over pay left the citizens in despair and encouraged crime and anarchy on the streets, yes it does feel similar...3 decades later and Disco is back once more; re-discovered by another generation,as people young and old(er), are enjoying getting down!!!Disco Rules still ;)
