5.0 out of 5 stars Little Guy that Packs a Punch, 29 May 2014

It's a small book that will take you under an hour to read through. And it's cheap of course. But it really does pack quite a punch. It get's right at the heart of why prayer is so often a struggle and helps us to see prayer for what it is, especially in it's trinitarian context. Read this book to help you "enjoy your prayer life!"

If you just wanted the hard evidence for the reliability of the Bible then you can check out Josh McDowell's other books ("Evidence that Demands a Verdict" particularly). Books that just present the hard evidence can be a hard read as you wade through statistics, figures and arguments. This book is a much more interesting read as it presents the evidence in a narrative form.

The story follows a bloke who goes off to college only to discover from his lecturer that the Bible isn't as faultless as he has been taught in church. His faith crumbles and he finds no help from his parents or youth pastor. Eventually, another lecturer comes on the scene and engages this student in a dialogue of the evidence for the Bible's accuracy. I'm sure you can guess the outcome!

This book is great because it's the sort that anyone can read, not just those wanting the cold hard facts in a dry academic work. It presents all the up to date evidence and figures in enough detail but in a nice and engaging story. The other side to it is that it highlights how a lack of assurance of the reliability of the Bible can completely rock your faith. And finally, it confronts the reader in a gentle way with their own need to trust in the good news message of the Bible and not simply to treat the issues as objective fact-finding.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Safety Mechanism, 2 Jun 2013

Of all the means of securing windows, I'm sure this has to be the best. With a key, what do you do if you lose it or can't find it in the event of a fire?! With this one, simply flick the latch and your out. Then when you close it again it will re-secure itself. All windows are different so yes you may need to tweak the fit. With ours, though they will close, you have to pull it tightly to get everything in place, but that's fine. We got four for all our upstairs windows and they were relatively simple to fit. I would recommend these for anyone with kids who don't want them fiddling with the windows and falling out of the first floor, and yet want to get out if there is a fire!

A brilliant price and fits perfectly my Kindle Fire. Whilst inexpensive, it doesn't look like it will fall apart too quickly!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book on a very particular topic, 1 Jan 2013

With plenty of books advocating the essential practice on Church Planting, there are relatively few on leading a church through a process of change for the purposes of mission. This book (the first of three) is how to lead change when there is apparent opposition within the organisation to the proposed change. I'm certainly not an expert in this, but the five strategies he offers seem good to me.

Carey explains his strategies in a thoroughly engaging way with plenty of examples and stories - it is certainly not a wooden dry book. His basis biblically is a few episodes in Numbers where Moses is leading the Israelites through he wilderness. Carey's experience clearly is conveyed making this a well grounded book.

Everyone who seeks to bring about change will face opposition. Therefore, I would heartily recommend this book to any who are leading a church and seeking to revitalise for missional purposes. It really is a great read and very helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, just like the author!, 10 Nov 2012
Though I haven't read this book, nore even previewed it on my Kindle, I just know that it is the best book ever and will change the lives of any who do read it. Never mind other celebrity pastors, this is the Celebrity Pastor.

This book is no doubt full of plenty of cool zippy sentances that probably aren't grammatically correct, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if some paragraphs are one word long, but isn't that what makes it such a great book!

Awesome!

This book will no doubt be full of plenty of exagerated stories that no doubt happened to someone, but the author will claim them for his own. That doesn't matter, in fact that's why we love him so much. If he does quote scriptures, then he'll probably quote out of context or use multipal versions so it can say what he wants it to. But of course that's what the Bible is there for, to validate whatever we want it to.

In short, not only is the author the most attractive man ever but he is so entertaining and makes me laugh all the time. Not only that but he makes me feel close to God, or to himself, or something anyway. At very least he makes me feel good about myself, which is what is most important.

Even though I've not read Celebrity Pastor's book, I will be seeking to duplicate his ministry exactly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does the job and does it well!, 15 Sep 2007
For the money, you'd expect it to just about be ok, but it works absolutely fine. With it's size being so small, it fitted my i-pod holder perfectly. The only issue is that you need to find the right frequency for your area so that it doesn't get any interference (if you live in Cardiff then I'd recommend 93.2!) but that'd be the case with ever transmitter I assume. I'd definitely recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars although i've never met the guy..., 20 Nov 2006
i felt like i did meet him through this book. it feels like it is an old man telling you the story of his life, and of course he has quite an interesting life to tell about. i found it very engaging, very easy to read and dare i admit that i was even moved by it in places, particularly his encounters with God where he turned away from a virtually ruined and wrecked life. even if you're not too interested in his music or his faith, then i'm sure you'll find this book quite interesting.

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect sequel to the classic epic, 14 Sep 2006
after 30 or so years, bruce brown decided to follow up his classic "endless summer" with this. whereas a lot of sequels are disappointing, this is just as good as the original, apart from it not being the original and obviously being from a different era!

this time round, surfers, 'wignut' the longboarder, and pat the shortboarder, decided to follow the original film and chase the summer round the world looking for perfect waves. they travel to more and different places and catch some awesome, perfectly formed waves with bruce brown giving the same style of humorous commentary

highlights for me are an amazing wipeout section, pat getting his best ever wave every time and one of wignut's waves where he loses his board due to riding leash-less, so he body-surfs in on a wave, grabs his board whilst still on the wave and stands on it. pretty amazing you may say, but what's even more amazing is that his board is actually upside down with his fin up in the air!! must be seen to be believed.

there are many other excellent moments on this film, and like the original, this film too is a must for all surfers. although its already been 12 years since this film was made, time will prove it to last as long as the original.

5.0 out of 5 stars an absolute classic epic surf film, 4 Sep 2006
This review is from: Endless Summer [DVD] (DVD)
mike hynson and robert august travel the world in search of an endless summer in 1964. and that is it, simply put. travelling to various places including, west africa, south africa, australia, new zealand, tahiti (where there aren't any waves, only things) and of course hawaii! there are plenty of perfectly formed waves and incredibly long rides.

i love the old classic style of this film, both with the style of surfing (all on longboards) and the style of filming. but i think the best feature of this film is the running commentary by bruce brown. it's given with a completely hilarious dead-pan humour style.

any surfer, longboarder or shortboarder, must, i repeat must watch this film.
