5.0 out of 5 stars Chris Lilley - Ricky Gervaise There is a BIG difference, 3 Nov 2010
Ok, can we stop comparing Chris Lilley with Ricky Gervaise? Chris Lilley has, literally, been more people in one episode of his mockumentaries than Rick Gervaise has played in his entire career. (Although that is not difficult as RG has milked his one character to death throughout his TV/Film career)

Chris Lilley has that wonderful talent to make you laugh and cry at exactly the same time for the same reasons. A prime example being the bit where the twin who can hear, shouts to his deaf brother as he walks away. "If you turn round now, I'll give you a thousand bucks!" One line that has so much emotion, humour and sadness. "We could be Heroes" and "Summer Heights High" (Lilley's other work) are festooned with such sharp, wonderful writing and observed life.

His comedy is sharp, black and heart-breakingly funny.

But hey! Remember that silly dance that the guy from 'The Office' did that made you cringe? No, me neither.

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect TV drama, 25 Jun 2010
Billy Rizley is a boy born into the wrong society - and he knows it. In an effort to break out he runs away to Wales, a place he went to on a school trip; the only time he can remember when he was happy. There, Billy meets a man who has the lifestyle that he wants for himself: The lifestyle that will stop him becoming the violent criminal he is scared he will otherwise become.

I have described this as the perfect TV drama not because of its acting, script or directing - all of which can't be faulted. It's perfect because it's a drama that seeps into your soul without you knowing it. You are someone there with the two boys and the man. You become part of the story simply by watching.

Its 30 years old, but there is nothing dated about it (except the computer games). In fact, the drama has improved with age, because now we see that, 30 years on, these kids still exist and are treated by the establishment in just the same heartless and brutal manner.

Today's programme makers would give 30 years of their lives for dramas like this. I write this comment on the day that the playwright Alan Plater died. Alan, like Willy Russell who wrote this, tell us something of who we are and the world we live in. 'One Summer' will make you laugh. It will make you cry and make you angry - all at the same time. If 'One Summer' doesn't move your soul, its because you don't have one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fox - the series that tolds us how things will be, 25 Jun 2010
If you could go back in time to a point when society was at a crossroads and you could see where it was heading then you wouldn't need Fox.
Like so many dramas of the early 80s, Fox is both insightful of the future and a reflection on how the world is. Just take a listen to Vin and Renie's conversation on how London is changing and Phil Fox's speech on what 'family' means.

People comment about the songs. Its true that 30 years on, they seem a bit out of place, but they remind us that Fox is a piece of history that spoke of our present. Watch it again and you will see the future.
