5.0 out of 5 stars Important account of the slaughter, 3 Aug. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a very important book. Read it and wonder. If you missed out on what happened to Gaza in the summer of 2014, check this out. It is one of the most important accounts of the slaughter, told by a very observant and historically conscious eyewitness.

It's time the world wakes up and stop this madness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Indispensible and beautiful, 4 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Indispensible for every serious Brötzmann-listener, and enlightening for everyone that likes real music.

A perfect supplement to 'Gespräche' and the two recent portrait-dvd's. Brötzmann gives us an invaluable insight in his life, art and thoughts. The connection between a lived life and his musical and visual art becomes very clear, and we get a brillant overview of the story and legacy of especially free jazz, but also a great awareness and respect for the entire jazz tradition.

Brötzmann offers: Honest words about lots of collaboraters and friends. Reflections on the social and historical roots of his art.

So, listen to his unique music and get some perspectives by reading (and returning to) this long interview.

Bonus: Lots of enlightening photos and beautiful examples of his visual art.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brillant, watershed series, 19 Feb. 2011
XENA just is one of the best series ever made. It doesn't matter what the institutional or personal circumstances were at the time of creation, what matters is the result, the product as we have it now. And it is brillant all the way through. It's extremely entertaining, thought provoking, surprising, funny, ironic, serious, silly, emotionally captivating - and humanist to the core. Hail to this watershed series! Can't wait to the eventual release of the ultimate Xena-box, the one to end all Xena-boxes with subtitles, commentary and the works, but until then this release is the thing.

Xena has many skills, and so do we - and we learned it from this exceptional Warrior Princess and her outstanding "sidekick".

Beyond Chutzpah: On the Misuse of Anti-semitism and the Abuse of History
Beyond Chutzpah: On the Misuse of Anti-semitism and the Abuse of History
by Norman Finkelstein

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent account of the cases for and against Israeli policy, 22 Mar. 2009
On the face of it, this is Finkelsteins deconstruction of just one halfbrained member of the Israel-lobby. But it turns out to be a very thorough investigation of a vast amount of pro-Israel arguments. Finkelstein does a tremendous job checking and double-checking all his opponents statements and evaluations. And the result: Dershowitz is finished as someone to be taken serious in academic discourse, and in the process Finkelstein has created some sort of White Book laying bare the Israeli record.

Does Ethics Have a Chance in a World of Consumers? (Institute for Human Sciences, Vienna Lectures Series) (Institute for Human Sciences Vienna Lecture Series)

5.0 out of 5 stars Very important work, 25 July 2008
A very important book. Bauman seems to summarise his most essential points about liquid modernity, what it does to us, and how we can cope with it. It's actually - in midst of all the gloom and pessimism - an optimistic book that outlines the path to go for humanity if we want ethical values to have any influence and politics to make a difference. Read it and get wiser - and maybe a little hope for the future. Maybe it's not all "murder" (as Leonard Cohen warns us...).
