5.0 out of 5 stars Great show, great cast., 19 Aug 2013

I've loved Leverage from the start, even though they don't seem to admit it's a booted up, slightly more action-packed version of the UK's Hustle. It's a great show with a different con every week that they only perpetrate on those who deserve to be conned. And it has the usual plot twists and turned. And there's always a Plan B! Great cast, led by Timothy Hutton, who's a terrific actor. But the rest are just as good. I like them all, but I think my possible favourite is Beth Riesgraf as Parker. She's completely nuts (her character!) but comes over like a best friend you never wish you'd had!

4.0 out of 5 stars It's a good little box player, 25 May 2013

This works for me. It's light, perfectly formed (though it does look a little like a fly's head) Have had no problems with it. I don't use it at its full volume, so I can't comment on that bit, but it's a great little machine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great series - not for everyone, but give it a try, 25 May 2013

This review is from: Haven - Season 2 [DVD] (DVD)
It took me a while to get into season 1, but once I did, I couldn't wait for season 2. It's a strange premise about a town where nothing happens, but everything then happens, with people with weird powers that they don't realise they have. It's a bit like Twin Peaks meets Heroes and they have a baby called Fringe. It's hugely enjoyable, though, just don't expect Tolstoy or Ibsen to have written the screenplays.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulously daft but completely watchable, 1 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Ben Miller's back as the fish out of water English detective still stuck on the fictional island of Saint-Marie in the Caribbean.
He still insists on wearing a suit and tie in 100 degree weather and drinking tea. The rest of the cast are also brilliant playing his fellow detectives and their families.
There are also some great guest stars. Don't know if it's just the chance of filming in the warm that drew them in, but they're very good. Stories are clever, usually revolving around strange murders that don't seem to have a reason behind them. But the stalwart English detective, with help from his colleagues always finds it!
Can't wait for series 3, which has been approved for production this year.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good show - very unlikely., 1 April 2013

I've written a review of season 2. My feelings are much the same - good stuff, some good acting, some very unlikely stories and a mix of comedy and action. Well worth taking a chance on, though.

4.0 out of 5 stars If only we could all run that fast in high heels!, 1 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I do like this series, though it is preposterous.
The story of a young woman fast tracked to the CIA as an operative. She has a sister, who's basically a stay at home mum with two kids. She's sent on all kinds of adventures whilst trying to keep her 'front' as an employee of the Smithsonian.
The stories are great, the acting fine (Piper Perabo and Christopher Gorham as her blind assistant work very well). They've taken a few liberties with the truth, but when they say something's set in somewhere European they actually are, so it must have a big budget. Normally, if something's set in London, they just stick in a telephone box, a red postbox, a zebra crossing and a view of St Paul's, because that's what's expected.
All in all, another good show if you don't mind a bit of frivolity and fun with your shoot-em-ups.
Oh and I failed to mention Anne Dudek, a very underrated actress, who is great as the sister, who finally discovers what her sibling does for a living.

Castle - Season 4 [DVD]
Castle - Season 4 [DVD]

5.0 out of 5 stars Clever if not quite attached to reality, 1 April 2013

This review is from: Castle - Season 4 [DVD] (DVD)
I love the way that Castle wears a bulletproof vest with 'Writer' on it, whereas the rest have 'Police'. It's basically the story of a rich, celebrated writer who's been brought in to help the police, because in series 1 the first case is based on a plot of one of his books. Nathan Fillion is great as Castle, and Stana Katic terrific as the long-suffering actual police officer, who's responsible as his partner. It's worth seeing from series 1, because like most good series, apart from the stand-alone stories, there are also threads that run through the entire four series.
In this series there's a new female boss, who insists on being called 'Sir', and if you know what happened at the very end of season 3, then the start of the first episode of the series is very compelling.
It's funny, dramatic and has lots of twists and turns. It's not exactly Stindberg, so you do need to come at it in the right frame of mind, i.e. just have a good time with it all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Looks the part - not sure it would fool a real burglar, 31 Mar 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I like this. I've given it 4 stars because it was a b*gger to open. You have to press really hard, but now I've got the hand of it it's fine. You have to push the valuables down, so that the bottom can be slid on again. But unless you want to have a wall taken out and a fire-safe fitted at probably 100 times the cost, this is a good idea. Remember to store it amongst books, though - if you don't have any, it's going to stand out like a sore thumb!

Painkiller Jane - The Complete Series [DVD][2007]

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting premise, 31 Mar 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I'm giving this three stars because it is a little flawed and they cancelled it too soon. Kristanna Loken is good in the main role - sometimes unrecognisable from her most famous role as the Terminator in T3, but in one episode she wears practically the same outfit. It's a sci-fi, shoot 'em up, fight, supernatural mix. It's great if you like that kind of thing, and there's a different 'villain' every time that you can't work out, plus an ongoing story about the heroine trying to work out why she's invincible. Yes, if that sounds your cup of tea, this is the show for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great different kind of show, 31 Mar 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I love The Mentalist. The chemistry between the actors/characters is compelling, the stories are slightly eccentric, but based in the reality of TV crime drama. You really do need to have seen the first set of series, otherwise you'll won't know why 'Red John' is mentioned so often and why the episodes always have some version of 'red', 'scarlet' or other shades in the title. Simon Baker is perfect as the 'fake' psychic and Robin Tunney is great as his sometimes exasperated boss. Over the five series there have been so many twists and turns and I don't expect that to change.
