I discovered Joe Grey books when an incredulous friend said ""you never about Joe Grey??" :-) So, I started in the middle then decided I needed to go to the beginning, and I am glad I did, the books work when read in the right order (as I found from [...]) The books are a nice light read and I have developed a tremendous affection for the characters and their world. What happens to them matters to me :-)

Try this book, and make up your own mind. Don't let any review put you off a book until you have given one volume your attention. The Joe Grey books touch on deep themes in a light way, and it is up to you to think them through. These books are a fun, feel good read where the characters engage you, and you find yourself rooting for them and following Joe Grey in his paw tracks as a helping hand to the local Molena Point police. Give Joe Grey, Dulcie and Molena Point a try!

5.0 out of 5 stars Honest and Hopeful, 6 Jan 2013

How can you not admire a story of such courage AND such hope. James is very honest about his struggles and addiction, and informative about life amongst those who live on London's fringes struggling with small amounts of money. We read about how he made the courageous first step towards a new life when he paid most of his available money to get Bob the medicine he needed - and anyone who has ever been very short of money will realise just how important this decision was.

James and Bob, whatever you decide to do in the future, our good wishes for an hopeful future go with you. You have life, you have a direction and you have our admiration.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Adventure!, 6 Jan 2013

This review is from: Brave [DVD] (DVD)
Any film with a heroine, not a 'hero' is off to a good start in my book and this just gets better and more fun as it goes on. The quality of the animation is first class (any geek will be looking at things like hair and fur!) and the slapstick humour blends seamlessly with the adventure and action. The wild Scots, led by the voices of Billy Connolly as King Fergus and Emma THomson as Queen Elinor provide a colourful backdrop for the story of the headstrong Merida (KellyMcDonald) who needs to learn the value of home and honesty as well as the value of freedom and the need to be brave. A fun family film!

Not only is this a great family film, it is produced to the highest standards and quality. Aardman bring an English wit and charm to elevate a good film into one of the best of the genre. Each voice if perfectly cast (and some of them will surprise you!) and there is a mix of fun and wild adventure with lots of laughs aong the way! A family film with some wry and intelligent charm to keep the grown ups happy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Joe Grey Delights, 23 Sep 2012
There is a magic to the Joe Grey books, a delight in the world Ms Murphy creates with her characters and their unique little village. I step into Molena Point every time I open a Joe Grey book, I bask in its sun, wonder at its snow and look for news on what the people of Molena Point are doing right now. The cats are beautifully drawn characters who constantly surprise, make me laugh and impress me with their depth, making each new book is a treasure and a must read.

These are mysteries to be enjoyed. They do not drip with blood, they have no need as the wit and wisdom of Joe Grey, Dulcie, Kit and their friends keeps each tale moving along nicely, with the human characters trying desperately to keep with investigative whiskers and detecting paws!

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring for the Artist, 15 May 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a beautifully produced book that is aimed at the artist more than the hobby journaler. It is packed with a huge range of inspiring images each with a comment or analysis as to why it worked. There are lots of "how-to" suggestions for starting, developing and working on journals and the book is very comprehensive covering materials from the simple graphite pencil, watercolours and inks to gouache and collage. There are suggestions about incorporating journals into your day, coping with mistakes, where you can journal, what to do if something doesn't work, and how to move forward to new discoveries.

It is lovely to look at, interesting to read, and for the artist who has not used a journal this is a must see book. Visually it is rich in imagery, and this is backed up with inspiring words and advice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Phryne Fisher at her Best!, 31 Dec 2010
I am a big fan of Miss Phryne Fisher, her extended family and her exotic friends. This is a good and satisfying read with plenty of puzzles, mysteries and fun as she rights wrongs and solves crimes. I am not a huge detective and mystery fan usually but the combination of Phryne, her gorgeous fashions and and her family is irresistible and this is one of the best so far. This is a young woman of depth and considerable intelligence who has a back story of her own that drifts into view now and again adding further interest. There are strange characters, odd people and wrong-doers getting their just deserts - three cheers for Phryne Fisher!!

5.0 out of 5 stars We need another volume!, 19 May 2008
This review is from: Abhorsen (Paperback)
This book, the continuation of the more thoughtful and slower paced Lirael, is a superb action packed story that brings the trilogy to a dramatic close.

Much has been written in other critiques in praise of it so I will content myself with the following :- there are enough loose ends, and enough potential for another full length volume of Old Kingdom adventures, (we had a brief glimpse of this in The Creature in the Case short story) and I can't be alone in longing for another book, another story, more about What Happens Next......
